This piece is dedicated to and inspired by the art of Gauguin. Back in 2015, I was lucky to see his work in Boston, before I even knew who he was. They had many of his pieces, but it was his masterpiece “Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?” that really caught my attention in a profound way. I must have stared at this incredible painting for at least an hour. And every time I see it, it still resonates deeply with me. I discovered its title was inspired by a catechism teacher Gauguin had when he was a boy. And, to me, it is very much Gauguin’s personal depiction—and wrestling with—of the gospels, even if done so subconsciously.
