This is a bootleg remix of the Martin Circus classic. Hard to find, yet easy to appreciate. François also remixed this tune for a Prelude records 12" release, but this is different and more satisfying by far.  The B side featured an extended mix of Prince's Sexy Dancer.

Jean Carne - Was That All There Was John Morales Downtown Unreleased M+M Mix 2013

This song has been a very big New York Dance Classic. It was given a fresh run in 92 as borrowed by Ashley Beedle's Black Science Orchestra alias ("Where were you") And again in 94, Kenny Dope sampled it in the B-Side of the original Bucketheads 12" single ("I wanna know"). Yes the one that had "The Bomb" on the other side. Obviously the huge success of "The Bomb" eclipsed it, and it was withdrawn from subsequent pressings. This song was also remixed on a scarce bootleg release a few years back which was rumoured to be the work of Joe Claussell. My version is a classic re-edit of the very original Tom Moulton full length mix from 1977

David Joseph’s ‘You Can’t Hide (Your Love From Me)' is a track I’ll forever have a strong personal association with, given that it was with 2 copies of this 12" that I made my claim to fame as the 1st UK DJ to mix live on TV – on February 25th 1983 at Newcastle’s Tyne Tees TV studio, on the classic British music show, ‘The Tube’. Last April I was sent a link to an edit by Italian DJ Moplen™ and was, as you can imagine, intrigued when I saw what it was - David Joseph – ‘You Can't Hide (Your DUB From Me)’. Utilizing the Larry Levan mix (I’d used original UK twelves on The Tube, the Levan mix wouldn’t come until later, when the track went big in the NYC clubs), Moplen had done a fine job, but unfortunately I couldn’t play it. 

I replied to his mail, explaining that because of my connection to the track I would need the vocal in there at some point, otherwise the dancefloor might feel short changed. The whole dub vibe teases things up a treat, but the money shot of the song is a must for my own purposes. Moplen was getting a great reaction to the edit as it was, and rightly so – check it out here:

So, for my own personal use, I edited Moplen’s edit to incorporate the full vocal, and the resulting version became one of my big festival tracks of 2011, and something that’s appeared in a number of my live mixes.

This track has come a long way with me since I was first sent a UK promo by Island Records 29 years ago.

I'll never forget my most memorable party experience of all time.  It happened at David Mancuso's Loft @ 99 Prince Street in NYC.  I was hoofin it downstairs about 5:30 AM when a fire broke out.  No one panicked. No one actually wanted to leave, but cooler heads prevailed & we got the fawk outta there.  And like the typical stubborn NY night-breakers that we were, we hung outside the building while New York's Bravest came and knocked down the blaze.  If you were there, I know you weren't entertaining thoughts of going home yet.  Neither was I, so we just sat up on top of the big red FDNY trucks and waited til they reopened David's loft and let us back in to wrap the party up.  One problem, they weren't going to do that!  It WAS A WRAP ALREADY.  But no one went home anyway.  

THAT is the spirit I wanted to capture, so I dropped these tracks just to remind myself of those crazy, happy, sick, dont-give-a-fuck times that you cant relive, but won't ever forget.  I hope these tunes bring back some positivity to those who relish fun, dancing and partying together as a family.
