AwaKenING: the music series is a story of a young man trapped in his sleep. He is trapped because even though his body can wake up daily, his mind and soul are dormant and he lives as a shell of his true self; physically free but still caged. During this sleep, the young man's dreams and nightmares are at war with each other for control of the young man's spirit, morality, and consciousness. The winner of the war would be rewarded the total power to determine the young man's future, meanwhile the results of each battle still manifest in the real world through the young man's actions; good things come when dreams win, and bad things happen when nightmares win. 

At some points in the war the nightmares gain the upper hand, which causes the young man to face judgement from people unaware of the war inside him. He gets forgotten by people who once befriended and loved him, and criticized by people who never knew him. His dreams and nightmares continue to war with each other until the dreams take final victory and can now wake the real young man up. Now guided by his dreams, the young man from humble beginnings gains riches and power along with love and respect from the people in his city. His influence soon spreads across the country and even other nations of the world begin to acknowledge his status: he is hailed as a king, despite his lack of royal blood. 

One day, the young man is greeted by a mixed crowd of strangers and familiar faces, all wanting to hear him tell his story. He begins with a reflection of how people treated him in his state of rest (Ep 1). He describes the feeling of entrapment in this sleep and the moment he began to wake up (Ep 2). He speaks proudly on his initial stages of success (Ep 3) and taunts the opportunists that once shunned him (Ep 4). He celebrates his current status with the crowd around him (Ep 5), and then becomes humbled when he looks around at his blessings and sees how far he has come (Ep 6). 

Then the young man realizes that though he has come this far, this is still only the beginning of his story.
