Danny Howells doesn’t fit into the standard dance music paradigms. With a reputation as “the DJs’ DJ”, he has remained stoic in the face of ever-shifting trends and fads in dance music since he broke through into the global house music consciousness in the late-’90s. He doesn’t churn out productions to “remain relevant”, instead only releasing music as and when inspiration strikes. He’s not a publicity hungry, social media devotee. He’s not someone who feels the need to reinvent himself with new monikers or side projects, nor someone who aggressively pursues a maxxed-out DJ’ing schedule. Quietly ploughing his way through the house music continuum, he has remained one of the world’s most captivating selectors precisely because of these organic means. That and his impeccable selection, distinctive style and silky mixing, of course.

This was my opening set for DANNY HOWELLS at the PLAY 1 Year Anniversary party at the legendary ENDUP in August 2013. This mix really does span so many genres between house and tech. I used to be cursed when it came to being recorded, always something not working out... Times like tagging w/ Burridge for 6 or 14 hours, and the recorder stopped, or my engineer fell asleep while recording, etc etc.. But the curse is OVAH! To be honest, I think it's the best set I've ever *recorded* IMO.  I humbly hope that you enjoy it as well! PEACE, LOVE & MUSIC my friends <3

Our very special guest this week on the Cadenza Music Source to Cycle podcast  is Danny Howells. 

The British DJ and producer has become one of the most well loved and reliable record spinners around.  From his early days performing in the local clubs around Hastings, UK, to DJing at John Digweed’s Bedrock parties, for which he served as a resident for nine years, Howells has become a firm favorite with fans and other DJs alike.  Literally performing in every four corners of the globe, with a relentless schedule over the years, Danny is known for his longer extended sets, regularly working a 10 hour set, be it in New York or London, or beyond.

In the studio, Danny has been releasing his own brand of “futuristic tech house funk” under various guises since the mid 1990s, cropping up on labels like Yoshitoshi, Sex On Wax and his own label, Dig Deeper, but it’s probably as a DJ first and fore mostly that Danny has built his solid reputation upon, releasing superb mix albums for Renaissance, Global Underground and most recently, Balance Music, as well as legendary radio mixes such as his classic 2002 Radio 1 Essential Mix.

So, it’s a real scoop to have him on the Cadenza Music Source to Cycle podcast this week, so prepare for two hours of music par excellence, this week, from Danny Howells.
