This time, I experimented with a brass-combo (2 Trumpets, 2 Sax, 1 Trombone) and a Band as well as some synthesizers. The piece was recorded within my second our second year Bachelor Composition for Film and Media at the Zurich University of Arts.

Waltz for Muriel

This time I focused on one main instrument for the semester assignment in studio practice: The flute. What you hear is a double bass flute, processed in various ways, as well as an 808 drum machine. For the recording I mixed some of the fantastic samples from Hyperflute.

The recording, which took place in December, was also my first remote session. That means the musician was in the studio while I listened in from home via video telephony and professional audio transfer software. It was a great, if not preferred, option :)

Deepwater Flute Electro

The orchestra in this piece was recorded doing various contemporary playing techniques, mostly leaded improvisation to picture using streamer and punches. The main instrument and effect-machine is a 50+ year old Bavarian zither edited and played in unique ways.

Locus Finale is dedicated to the animation short film "Remove hind legs before consumption", which I had the pleasure to score in spring 2022. The piece tells the journey of a small, brave, albeit tender grasshopper named "Locus".

In addition to gaining experience and using this piece to showcase where I am now, three years into my studies, I am excited to use it as a portfolio for my application for an internship in Los Angeles. If you have any tips for me or want to forward the piece, I would be very very happy.
