Leo Giannola biography
Leo Giannola is an Italian guitarist who comes from several musical experiences starting at a very young age, after his father showed him the first rudiments on the guitar.
Rock, improvised as well as ethnic music are present in his musical language.
After having made his debuts in Italy with the band “Radex” who played several times for the Italian television Rai, he signs up in the Modern Jazz School of Siena (CPM), and collaborates in the Astralia Magic Orchestra Big band, which proposes an interpretation of Charles Mingus’ compositions.
In 1995, Leo settles in the South of France and becomes the lead guitarist of Caligagan band (www.caligagan.com), often playing at the Midem of Cannes. Two albums will be recorded “Seven Languages” and “Naked Garden”.
In France, he will also share interesting musical experiences with various musicians from very different musical backgrounds such as the guitarist and composer Philippe Loli (touring in Bahamas, Guatemala, Germany), the Chinese violinist Zhang Zhang of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic (touring in Switzerland, Thaïland), the experimental Jazz band Neuma, giving birth to the “Space Gari” album, the young British band The Rua, with whom Leo will play in New-York alongside Clive Deamer (Drummer of Robert Plant Band, Portishhead, Radiohead) and Nigel Harrison (Bass player Silverhead, Iggy Pop, Blondie).
