Afterglow" is equal parts love-lorn and hopeful, fun and self-aware. It's about finding the right person at the wrong time. Trying to make sense of the feeling of simultaneous connection and disconnection from a new found love. 

"I wrote this track during the pandemic summer of 2020 while thinking back to summers of the past- specifically when I met the love of my life, who was moving back to the east coast for college. Knowing I shouldn't get too involved but not being able to help myself."

Portland based songwriter Leo Islo continues to go from strength to strength with each subsequent release. ‘Lush Life’ is Islo’s first original of 2017 as the artist opens a new chapter in his already promising career.

LEO ISLO is the moniker of Portland-based producer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Matt Pahler.

Born in Santiago, Chile and raised in the small mountain city of Flagstaff, Arizona, LEO ISLO amassed an eclectic mix of art from the world around him, instilling a sense of wanderlust at a young age. By 17 and armed with a fake ID, he began touring as a drummer playing at a variety of venues across Arizona from local bars and clubs to casinos and popular lounges. It wasn’t long before his desire and self-motivation lead him to songwriting and learning guitar.

It was during a move from Los Angeles to Portland that LEO ISLO found himself drawn to the world of electronic music for the first time. Artists like Jai Paul, Neon Indian, Toro Y Moi, Caribou, Washed Out, and Grimes became early influences on his approach to production, fueling his propensity to create tracks with retro-soaked synths, ethereal pop vocals, warm guitar lines, and analog driven beats.

"Love Like This" is a buoyant, empowering synthpop cut that originated from a dark place. Reflecting on a multitude of human issues, electronic composer Matt Pahler’s songwriting took a turn toward “an apocalyptic ‘humanity is doomed’ theme,” he tells, “but I realized as the song was developing, that message didn’t really resonate because I didn’t believe it. It had to be a song about stark contrast: love growing stronger than the darkness around it. I was more terrified of the future than ever, but also had this intimate closeness with the people around me, almost tribal. And I held that as a sort of torch through the making of this tune.” The people around Pahler included multi-instrumentalist Nick Quiller who helped concoct the mood of “LLT," simultaneously eerie and uplifting.
