Celebrating 10 years of existence with a statement, Berlin’s GEGEN is releasing a solid 3-part compilation, grounding their work of the past decade into the newly founded label’s sonic aesthetic by showcasing the artists that have been at the heart of the infamous party series. This VA is a bundle of 30 tracks hailing from the true ride-or-die residents at the core of the project to the headliners whose support have propelled the collective from day one as well as up-and-coming artists that Gegen takes to heart to support.

Curated with our love for techno’s history of diversity in mind, this release travels through different subgenres and BPM and takes you from classic techno to industrial, hardcore to breakbeat, deconstructed to acid. Whether you are up for an ethereal epic eerie journeys (Ellen Allien, Femanyst), looking to get dirty in punk distortion (Hypnoskull, Bombardier), needing to release energy on some tense walkyrie anthems (Paula Temple, Espectra Negra, Ayako Mori), wanting to indulge in some raw hard hitters (Ayarcana, Tunnel, Esther Duijn), losing yourself in spacious hypnotic trips (Cristian Marras, La Fraicheur & Leonard de Leonard, Non Reversible, Lady Maru), craving from some groovy cuts (Bloody Mary, Mar/us, Years of Denial) or wishing for deconstructed and drums focused tracks (SKD, Scalameriya), you will find what you are looking for in this compilation that proudly represents the Gegen sound.

Impulsada por la voluntad de apoyar y destacar la escena local catalana, cuidando su crecimiento desde el presente y desde el punto de vista de cada artista, Sigourney Discs sigue siendo consciente del rico vínculo entre las aportaciones locales e internacionales, y se esfuerza a publicar todo aquel material precioso y elusivo que a veces no encuentra su espacio en la industria musical.

El sello presenta su tercer lanzamiento después de BACK de Dark Vektor y CZ200 de PLOM. Rinse Repeat es el nuevo EP de la productora francesa barcelonesa La Fraicheur y del productor francés berlinés Leonard de Leonard. Después de una década de colaboraciones desde la producción hasta programas de radio y series de fiestas, era hora de que lanzaran una nueva faceta de su intercambio simbiótico: el acto en vivo. 

Al entrar en este proyecto con sus experiencias como DJ y productores, idearon una fórmula con los bailarines como foco central. Usando las habilidades de observación del DJ para leer la pista, el impacto emocional narrativo del trabajo del productor y su amor por los equipos analógicos y modulares para una experiencia en vivo atractiva, la dinámica del dúo divide el trabajo de manera que un artista maneje el ritmo para mantener a la audiencia bailando mientras que el otro puede improvisar una dirección melódica, pasando del viaje emocional a la eficiencia contundente de acuerdo con las necesidades de los bailarines.

After almost a decade of collaborations in Berlin ranging from studio production to radioshow, party series to record label work, it was time for La Fraicheur & Leonard de Leonard to launch a new facet of their symbiotic exchange : the live act.

Going into this project with their joint experiences as DJs and producers, they have come up with a formula and a vision that has the dancers as central focus.

Taking the DJ’s observational skills of reading a room and necessary flexibility to give the audience what it needs at the right time, the narrative emotional impact of the producer work and their love of analog and modular gears for an engaging live experience, the decision to create a duo came from the desire to divide the work in a way that allows one artist to handle the groove to keep the audience dancing while the other can build on crowd feedback to improvise a melodic direction, going from emotional journey to hard hitting efficiency according to the dancers needs.

Though clearly techno-oriented, they have the strong desire to travel through the different flavors of that music, ranging from acid to industrial, deep and emotional to ghetto tech.
The first EP composed of material from their new live is “Sang Chaud” : a 2-tracker with acid and industrial flavor with remixes from the European up and coming producers whose talent they wanted to highlight : French Calling Marian, German Modig, Belgian 2+2=5 and French Carave and French Porteix & Korros. It will be released digitally October 25th on Leonizer Records.

Created with a wide variety of analog and modular synths from his collection, the 3 track-EP is the return to Leonard’s signature energetic electro-house sound, driven by gutsy basslines, witty bubbly melodies and catchy use of cut-up vocals.

On remix duty, Leonizer’s new addition, the Tokyo-based producer Sovnger, delivers a rough remix taking “Do You Get More” into dirtier darker techno territories, while Bon Temps Records co-founder Verlatour brings a touch of cinematic retro-pop to “Be Be Be”.

With the second vinyl release of its new record label venture, Gegen showcases two staples of the Berlin club scene.

On the A side, Berghain regular DJ, acclaimed producer and multi-label founder Oliver Deutschmann brings his signature sound of hypnotic “8-AM-on-a-Sunday” big room techno. “Wach” (awake in German) has the kind of sound that builds on layers upon layers of skillfully designed drums.

On the B side with “Roadkill”, Gegen’s own residents La Fraicheur & Leonard de Leonard come up with a moody track carrying a weird combination of gritty and dirty synths with spacious sound design that make you wonder if you didn’t get thrown off the side of the Milky Way by a boisterous clunky spacecraft on its last leg.
