Max Sinàl has been a familiar face in the capital’s electronic music scene for 25 years now, starting off on East London’s now legendary pirate radio circuit before going on to demonstrate his mixing chops all over the globe. Alongside his DJing journey, Sinàl has released a number of excellent records, on labels such as Knee Deep in Sound, Elements and Black Butter under a plethora of aliases. His recent focus has been on the label he co-founded in 2023: Soul Quest Records, which has seen Sinal release 2 wondrous soulful house steppers during 2023 - both of which highlight the melodic interplay that can be achieved between keys and vocals.

His new single, ‘Waiting’, follows in the same vein as his previous Soul Quest releases, and to say it builds upon the vibrations and emotional feel is a real understatement. Vocalist Bianca Nieddu introduces herself almost instantly, her voice occupying the top ends with real gusto, with the core hook gently landing atop the rhythm and melodic foundation. The piano that emerges during this moments is so graceful, creating a conversation with Nieddu’s vocals that are so easy to fall deep within. The instrumental segments are inventive, ascending and descending like the gentle breeze, with a real eye for how the layers all move in and out of one another. Its a tour de force, and one that retains the listener throughout, never wavering from its core goal and ideals but always finding time to accommodate the listener, embracing them with both arms and with a warm smile.
