Leonardo Barilaro started as a disciple of the great pianist Dimitri Romano and graduated from the Conservatory of Padova (Italy) under Franco Angeleri. He studied composition with Luca Mosca and Claudio Rastelli. Besides classical music, he developed a deep passion for synthesizers and electronic music. The lucky meeting with Jordan Rudess, Dream Theater’s keyboardist, made him his mentor.                                                            i                                       
Throughout the years, Leonardo was also fascinated by the world of Science, in particular by Space. He graduated with a PhD in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Padova, researching on hypervelocity impacts and space safety. Since 2005 he has been involved in teaching activities, both as a piano and synth teacher and as an event planner of several music laboratories related to Improvisation.
His main project, ‘Nullo die sine nota’, saw the light in year 2006. Through his music, he has been following the dream of giving a note to each atom. After the first three albums Nugae (2006), Hagakure (2008) and Shu (2010), in 2012 he released his fourth work ‘Pouring Notes on Troubled Vibrations’, where some pieces were played with the flutist Veronica La Malfa.
Leonardo performed in Italy and outside his native country, like in Berlin (at the international jazz club ‘A- Trane’), Darmstadt, London, Kiruna (Sweden), Zoetermeer (Netherlands, at the Boerderij Cultuurpodium), La Valletta (Malta, with the tenor Nico Darmanin) and Antalya (Turkey). He was also in the ‘Land in Eden’ team of the eclectic artist Anna Utopia Giordano. For 5 years he was involved in the experimental project ‘Pas de Deux dance&piano duo’ with Alessandra Odoardi. The starting point of this project was the shooting of the video ‘selfPortrait’ at dawn during the summer solstice in Venice. The duo shared the same stage with international artists like Jalisse and Andrea Bocelli and was interviewed by Italian TV channels and radios. During 2016, Leonardo had a collaboration with the Oriental music pioneer guitarist Yossi Sassi, co-founder of the Israeli metal band Orphaned Land, and in July 2017 his strings quartet "Blue Eon Antithesis" was selected for the Malta International Arts Festival and performed by the London Sinfonietta ensemble. In 2018 he was invited again at the festival as performer.
In February 2019 Leonardo presented 'SeaSharp', an innovative type of concert that unites piano and synth, describing the Sea as methapor and symbol of our life path. The identity of the concept is deeply linked with the author’s hybrid nature of musician, aerospace engineer, Chinese martial arts instructor, photographer and freediver.
