An impressing listening experience. A true piece of art!

'Sonic Bayou', written and produced by Editor Cole. I wrote this recently with the idea of it being on an EP for spa music, but when It was complete, It worked really well with the rest of the tracks I had written for 'Landing Party', which is an electronic album I'm releasing this spring. It's mostly ambient, dark ambient, atmospheric, sometimes hypnotic, and cinematic in parts. I've yet to finish mixing this, but as ever, best to listen with headphones, or through good monitors.

I took old audio cassettes where I'd recorded music off BBC radio in the mid 1980s and blended three things I've never found recordings of since: Gershwin's funeral march (from Radio 4 maybe?), Richard Rodney Bennett's Siesta (arrange for piano and theremin I think) and the Brylcreem TV ad. Overlayed on this are the annoying bits where the radio presenters talk over the music. Presumably to stop people like me making pirate recordings. These were bits I couldn't/wouldn't erase as I wanted the whole track (often live sessions).

An experiment in using generative elements during the compositional process. Sections of this track are generative, within Ableton Live. The track name, A. saccharum, is the scientific name for the Sugar Maple tree.

I built a patch in kontakt consisting of two voices that seemed to compliment each other and ran a simple midi pattern triggering both. There's a lot of texture and hiss, maybe too much but hopefully others might find some use in this. Feel free to chop, mangle or do what you like with this one, just make sure i get to hear it!

Disquiet Junto Project 0602: Choice Words
The Assignment: Make a piece of music that strives to express a specific word.

Step 1: Choose a word — either a favorite word, or one at random from a dictionary, a book your reading, or any such source.

Step 2: Compose a short piece of music that expresses that word as best you can. Perhaps it communicates an underlying concept, or follows the shape of the word when spoken, or utilizes it as an extremely short lyric. Come up with your own approach, which might be determined by the word, rather than imposed on the word.

I used an online random word generator and got the word: torch.
I thought of an old style wooden torch that would burn very brightly before slowly going out and tried to express that with this short track. Hope you like it! Have a good day.
