In his new work, the Venetian based composer, guitarist and field recorder Enrico Coniglio leads us once again among his loved ones mountains: an epic landscape in which enchantment and fear are deeply intertwined. He chooses to do so offering us the sound as a sensory canvas of an imaginary enterprise with deliberately indefinite contours.

"Alpine variations" is a further step in the sound research carried out by the author in a long and complex path built over time inspired by environmental and atmospheric sounds.

A bewitching narrative emerges from the intersection of bright harmonic textures and dense ambient vapors crossed by restless shadows. The individual parts of this narration represent the stages of an ascent that is at the same time physical and spiritual. It is a nostalgic plot that in the partial roughness of its resonances returns the sense of precariousness of a bumpy path, poised between quiet contemplation and impending danger.

This year is already shaping up to be full of amazing music, as many of my favourite labels seem to be saving up all of their best for their “end of the year” celebration. And why shouldn’t we celebrate? We’re entering a whole brand new decade! And now, I am extremely excited to announce [drum roll, please!] a brand new album by the one and only Bersarin Quartett!!! I am most thrilled about this new release from Thomas Bücker mostly because his first three numerically titled albums are still on my heavy rotation, and because, having previewed “Methoden Und Maschinen” before it drops for you on November 29th, I can say with conviction that you’ll simply love it! Adriaan de Roover, who is also known as Oaktree (check out a few of his excellent mixes for Headphone Commute), announces a new EP, titled Voor anderen, with which he joins a Belgian imprint, Dauw. The label has been on the forefront of delicate ambient music, working with graphic artist Femke Strijbol "to create a unique hand-made piece of art that flatters both the ear and the eye." With this new release, they welcome Maarten De Naeyer as a new in-house graphic designer to continue the visual identity while opening up the door to new artists. I continue to be happy with their choice of album covers, which "engage interactions between different art disciplines." The work of Adriaan nicely slots among the label's catalogue, with its soft blurry hues of minimalism, micro-drone and environmental sound. On the EP, elegantly combined organic textures blend with their electronic parallels, sweeping the wide-ranging frequency spectrum across glitters and bass. The selection features commissioned pieces between 2015-2018 "merging feelings of distance and proximity into melancholic sonic entities."
