These 3 tracks showcase the producer’s innate flair for slick, sophisticated grooves that evoke the rawness of Detroit as well as the spirit of London’s broken beat pioneers. The A-side offering ‘New Ventures’ is a beautifully crafted piece of jazzed-up house with an infectious bassline and synths that weave in and out to create a warm and uplifting energy, whilst ‘Sunflowers’ on the flip side is a no-nonsense jam with wonky drums, vibrant strings and a soaring synth solo reminiscent of Kaidi Tatham. ‘Where & When’ rounds off the EP with a bouncy, feel good groove featuring jazzy piano stabs and some vocal work from Aeasheiaa. Be sure to keep an eye out for more from this understated cat!

APPAREL PREMIERE: Jon E. - New Ventures [Natural Element]

Show #17, broadcast on Saturday 25th April. This one flew by. Exploring sounds both old, new and recently discovered, I took it through a tasty mix of soul, nu jazz, R&B and Hip Hop in the first half of the show. I paid a little tribute to the late Guru of Gang Starr, and played a couple tracks off an EP that I’ve really been feeling recently, namely FKJ’s ‘Take Off’ from 2014 – which displays a unique fusion of funk and electronic.

As always I turned up the pace in the second half with an energy filled mix of disco, funk and house grooves before the new addition to the Crackers Radio family, Richie Nelson, took to the decks for his monthly special.

Leopold Loves To Boogie

Latest edition of The Natural Element, recorded on Saturday 9th May. I decided to give this show a very modern flavour and showcase some of the music I’ve been feeling in recent times which may come under the category of future soul/funk/beats. This was partly inspired by the forward thinking collective 'Soulection' from LA, who I went to see play that very night down at KOKO in Camden.

Lots of uptempo grooves in this one, 808s and deep kick drums. I couldn’t forget about the old school classics too which are sprinkled throughout the second half of the show.

Show #20! It’s hard to believe that 6 months have passed since my first show on Crackers. They’ve definitely flown by.

I digged a bit further into my library for this show and selected some tracks that I haven’t heard in a while. I also played some recent discoveries/downloads that I’ve been feeling. As always there is a strong connection between the old and the new. The soulfulness is present throughout, whether it be via a Hip Hop instrumental, an R&B classic or an old disco number.

Having made its mark with a strong debut outing, Natural Element returns with a 12” single from the seasoned and versatile Amsterdam producer Kid Sublime. With previous releases on Kindred Spirits, Jazzy Sport and Co-Op, to name a few, this release serves as a little taster to an exciting full-length project to follow in the coming months. The featured track ‘You Got Me Runnin'’ is a blissful piece of uptempo soul delivered straight from the heart, with a warm, infectious bounce and synths that cut deep. Georgian/American singer-songwriter Bako features on vocals with a smooth and subtle delivery that adds an extra layer of beauty, alongside Kid himself on the chorus.

My 25th show! I had to kick things off from the get go with some serious feel good business – a Theophilus London track which seems to sounds fresh every time it's played. From there on I mixed it up with a tasty concoction of mid-uptempo tunes either old, new or slept on. There’s definitely a heavy 80s feel running throughout the show (unintentional of course!)

My most freestyle show to date and maybe my best. Recorded live on Saturday 5th September, the day after Crackers Radio's R&B Overdrive event at the Maze Inn. I kept the spirit of the night alive with some classic R&B and Hip Hop, alongside some nice instrumentals and future soul. Half way through I dug a little deeper, getting into a section of smooth 70s cuts, and the final hour takes you through an energy filled mix of house and funk grooves. Hard not to smile to this one.
