The Liberators - Water Somewhere feat Roxie Ray

B. Bravo (aka Adam Mori) returns to Bastard Jazz with the long-awaited follow-up to his 2017 debut LP, “Paradise,” with a fresh full-length offering: “Vizionz.” Replete with his signature future funk vibes, infectiously soulful grooves, and talkbox excursions, “Vizionz” sees the multifaceted artist take the classic West Coast into outer space. If B. Bravo’s last album sought to get lost in paradise - enjoying the moment here and now - “Vizionz” looks forward, feet placed firmly in an established LA vibe, while the matured eyes of a veteran producer gaze keenly to the future. 

“Vizionz” arrives following a slew of diverse singles, which highlight B. Bravo’s stunning versatility as a songwriter, producer, and collaborator. Last year’s “Lifted (What U Waiting 4)” came first, at the end of May, 2020, pairing g-funk talk-box verses and synth lines with rich vocal harmonies and a dance-floor-ready beat. Frequent collaborator Reva DeVito (Miami Horror, Kaytranada) makes a standout vocal appearance on “Fly Bye,” the second single. Here, Adam surrounds Reva’s vocals with ambient pads, a Dilla-inspired beat, and an irresistible bassline, while Reva’s dreamily sings about getting away from it all. The final single, “Believe,” sees Chuck Inglish (of the famed duo The Cool Kids) rhyme in his distinctive baritone over a bass-heavy instrumental meant to rattle some car stereos. 

The singles offer a view into the rest of the album: Solo B. Bravo joints include “Moon Bounce,” a talk-box boogie jam begging for late-night drives with the top down; the largely-instrumental synth improvisation, “Midnight Rider;” the upbeat “Penelope,” which showcases Adam’s vocal and harmonic prowess; a bumping g-funk interlude, with “Flip Out;” as well as the laid back album opener, “Da Essence.” 

Further vocal assists come by way of Sally Green on the flirty “10/10,” and Rojai on the slow jam ““No Regrets” . Both singers have worked on B. Bravo projects in the past, with Rojai additionally joining forces with Adam to form the duo Kool Customer, whose self-titled debut album was released on Bastard Jazz in 2018. Two more hip-hop-leaning tracks are aided by Def Sound (“Back Times Two”) and Nico Fasho (“Ms. Stardust”); leaning heavy into outerspace G-Funk Hip-Hop vibes. 

Taken as a whole, “Vizionz” is a much needed boost of serotonin: Uncompromisingly positive, sometimes nostalgic, sometimes aspirational, but always funky. The range of styles is a testament to Adam’s indelible production chops, songwriting skill, and ability to collaborate. While it has been a long 5 years since “Paradise,” “Vizionz” proves more than worth the wait.

HAVANA ’58, the decadent jet-set heaven when Cuba was a tropical playground. A pleasure dome of sensual overload and rum-fuelled abandon, where shows and showgirls were dazzling, the gambling was high-stakes, and the revellers included Marlon Brando, Ernest Hemingway, Frank Sinatra and J.F.K., to name a few. Mojitos, Mobsters, Mambos & Muchachas. A forbidden, hedonistic world of Rum, Rumba and Roulette. The full range of Sexual freedom, offcial 
corruption, and Mafia control that fuelled the rampant party - until Sylvester 1958 when Fidel Castro’s revolutionaries 
took the foor. 
On this 4th album The Bahama Soul Club presents a very personal soundtrack, a musical homage, inspired by a vibrant verve that never came back. We encounter a heady blend of glittering nightclubs, outrageous cabarets, fashionable hotels and looking deep into backstreet brothels, empty wallets and bemusing decolletés. The Rumba is everywhere. 
With the frst albums The BSC established an elegant and percussive cocktail of Latin Jazz, Soul, Bossa and Boogaloo and now mixing the dark, sensual, alluring mystic of Tiki and Exotica into it. What we get is a new caribic long-drink named: HAVANA ’58

As can be heard on the award-winning previous album ‘The Cuban Tapes’ the fascinating voices of hand selected Cuban singers have a strong influence and a special effect on this production. Cuba’s leading vocal quartet SEXTO SENTIDO surprise us with traditional Yoruba chants (“Eleggua”), irresistible complex harmonies in the magnum mobster opus "Meyer-Lansky” and shows us some disco love in “Tropicana Flight”. The vivacious OLVIDO RUIZ, singer in the Bahama Soul Club Live band (long awaited and for the frst time on recorded disc), presents the full bandwidth of her expressive voice ranged from Boogaloo (“Muévelo Papi”) to Lounge (“Night Breeze”) and leads up to the dark 6/8-ballade “Let God”. And again the lovely AREMA AREGA with the rolling “Rumba Fugaz”. These ladies were selected by Gilles Peterson for the well-respected Havana-Cultura-Project and reveal their traditional Cuban roots as they combine fun and intellect while smartly ignoring passing fashion. Besides of any mambo mania and tiring salsa they stand for the swinging lightness and the pulsating cosmopolitan lifestyle of the contemporary Cuban scene. Finally, as a very special guest: The American Jazz and Soul singer BRENDA BOYKIN from the mighty Club Des Belugas with the hypnotic “No Words” and the shuffling “Dizzy’s Bounce”. 
The current Video “NO WORDS” starts exactly at the point where the previous video “Ay Jona” ends. Again with the breath-taking pictures of the most deliriously beautiful films ever made: “I Am Cuba”, directed in 1964 by Mikhail Kalatozov and presented in the 90s by Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese. The rights owners ‚The Cuban Institute of Cinematography' were deeply impressed by the quality of the new music and agreed to combine the award winning footage with the upcoming videos to feature “HAVANA ’58” with pure genuine Cuban patina. Un abrazo.

GTA FUNK' is both a reaction to and a reflection of the 'Toronto' sound, conceived during KEI-LI’s move from the suburbs of Mississauga to the city of Toronto.

The vast multiculturalism of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has given birth to a sonic diversity that goes far beyond the signature OVO sound associated with the city. With the world finally tuning in, this EP also enlists the help of fellow artists like @robotaki, @falcxne, @clairmontthesecond, @soundslikeandes and NAHTE, which allows him to showcase a funkier side to the city that the world hasn’t been acquainted with yet.

KEI-LI started producing at the age of 13, informed by his interest in beatboxing and funkstyles popping. After stumbling upon neo-soul, he immediately discovered his musical direction, with Musiq and D'Angelo as his inspirations. While these musical foundations shine brightly throughout GTA Funk, KEI-LI has managed to forge a sonic aesthetic that is entirely his own.

There is an evident struggle with finding an authentic place as an Asian artist within the continuum of funk, soul, and hip hop musical traditions. Hence, the visual branding behind GTA Funk is inspired by the intersection of these two cultures: Kung Fu and hip hop.

BBE Music continues its long and fertile partnership with vibraphone legend and godfather of neo-soul, Roy Ayers, with the first ever reissue of his 1983 album Silver Vibrations.

Originally released in the UK only on Uno Melodic Records, ‘Silver Vibrations’ shares some of its musical DNA with ‘Lots Of Love’, Ayers’ US album from the same year. However, ‘Silver Vibrations’ contains four unique cuts all of its own, plus extended takes of three songs, including the definitive version of iconic song ‘Chicago’. The rarity of the original pressing has led to eye-watering second-hand prices for this truly brilliant LP.

‘Silver Vibrations’ was perhaps the last album to retain the sound of Ayers’ organic ‘classic’ period of the latter ’70s and manages to stand up well under its current re-evaluation. “Chicago”, the unedited version of which is exclusive to this L.P., received considerable airplay in its time and has barely faded from earshot ever since;

its woozy, mysterious vibe and cosmic ruminations from Roy in the second half have certainly endured. The strutting, funky “Good, Good Music” echoes Ayers at his pre-’80s, up- tempo disco peak, sporting a grittier edge and an old-school party atmosphere. Title track “Silver Vibrations” was only ever released in the U.K., both on this album and as a single, backed with “Fast Money”. Both “Lots Of Love” and “Keep On Movin'” hark back to previous times and are a pleasant listen without being at all taxing. “Smiling With Our Eyes” is mid- tempo, lilting and jazzy, with a vocal vaguely reminiscent of Stevie Wonder in places. The wistful “D.C. City”, a close companion of Ubiquity’s original recording of “The Third Eye” is, in many ways, quintessentially Roy Ayers.

Pressed on heavyweight vinyl with original artwork and new sleeve notes written by Sean P., BBE Music is delighted to share this special album with a new generation of fans.
