A Lazy Sunday Episode 1

Leroy’s musical journey and passion started as a young boy. Being the child of a young mother and an only child for the first 12 of his life, Leroy found himself surrounded by the beats and lyrics enjoyed by his Mother and Aunt. He quickly became very familiar with many legendary Soul, Dance and Reggae tunes as these were a standard part of the ‘getting ready’ process for a night on the town.

Leroy’s passion and enthusiasm for music and great artists only continued to grow and by his early teens, he started to earn a little bit of money and spent most of this building his own collection of music. He focused mostly on buying and playing Hip-Hop and R’n’B, as now he had more of a say over the CD player! 

When at secondary school, Leroy and a number of friends formed a music group called ‘Alliance’, writing and producing all of their own music. They were successful enough to perform in many venues around the UK and were even featured on Radio One’s ‘The John Peel Show’ in 2001.

When Leroy reached the age of 18 he discovered and gained a love for Jungle music.  His first memories of this being in local nightclubs with many friends and fellow music enthusiasts, working the decks and spitting lyrics over the microphone. As trends and times changed, Leroy gained a love for Garage music and this is where many of his best memories lie (those that weren’t overly alcohol enthused anyway!). 

Many of Leroy’s friends in the musical industry and throughout his life have been of an older generation.  Musically, these friends were very knowledgeable and were old enough to experience nights out during the 80’s and early 90’s.   From the stories they had shared with Leroy, he would consider these to be ‘the real good days!’  

These same friends were the ones that introduced Leroy to the House scene in 2004.  Leroy’s first impression of House music was that the beats were “repetitive and boring”, but he quickly became hooked (some would say addicted!) to the electronic sounds.

Leroy soon realized where his true passion lay after his first experience at a rave. Hearing the electronic sounds on such a huge scale took his love for music to a whole different level. 

From this moment forward, Leroy made the decision to purchase a pair of Technics 1210’s and started buying records to create his own House collection. He played a few gigs in and around Ipswich and this soon confirmed he had definitely found his calling in life.

Leroy, to date, holds a monthly residency at Kbar in Ipswich, attracting many House lovers from across the country.  He also hosts a monthly Podcast called ‘The Deep Sensation Show.’ which has proved to be very successful.

For the future, Leroy plans to concentrate on producing electronic Dance music and hopes to write and produce his own music that will be recognized and played nationwide.  Watch this space!!!
