Hi everyone, and welcome to my podcast! I’m hoping this will be a place for those dealing with trauma, either in their own life or for someone they care about, and especially those who work supporting clients looking for help and healing from trauma, to hear the perspective of an adult man who has survived and healed from early childhood sexual trauma.
The life of the trauma sufferer is an ongoing struggle to NEVER be seen as a victim. Not even to a therapist. That’s true for most of us, regardless of gender. We build the highest, thickest, and strongest walls around our psyches we can. And we learn to be clever about it. It’s why so many of us become so profoundly addicted. These walls protect our ego and our denial too. Ask any addict or alcoholic in recovery where that ends up!  We end up in treatment for addiction, or therapy for depression, or couple’s counselling since we have so many intimacy and relationship issues. Anger management or domestic violence education, anxiety disorders, the list goes on. The counsellor, therapist, facilitator or psychologist isn’t likely to detect the underlying trauma, and proceeds with the model of treatment for whatever the client came to them for.
Some may even recognize the underlying trauma, quietly advise separate counselling to address it, then continue with their normal treatment. This model is failing. Catastrophically. It just doesn’t work for us, and that only makes us feel that much more defective. 
My friends and practitioners, Shelley, Madelon, and I have been working together long enough now that I think we can make a case that, even the best, most effective therapy out there still puts a great deal on the shoulders of the client that doesn’t have to be there. I honestly believe we’ve found a better way. The first round of podcasts on this channel will be discussions among the 3 of us, talking about how I experienced previous attempts at treatment for all the usual symptoms of trauma, what happened, and how I ended up working with Shelley and eventually Madelon.
I hope these programs will give you a sense of what it’s like for someone like me, what we can do with the right support, and models of that support from two people who I think embody the power of relationship based support and healing. I’ve been through quite a few therapeutic programs, Shelley and Madelon have done more for me in a few years than the DECADES of standard treatment, aftercare, medication, and self-help I took on. This works!
