Bytes are super excited to announce the reissue of the killer 1990s electro EPs by SEM (aka Damon Baxter, who would go on to record as Deadly Avenger). The original 12”s have been out of print since they were released on J Saul Kane’s Electron Industries imprint in 1995 (Phox EP) and 1996 (The Demon EP). They have never been available digitally. With the original masters M.I.A., the tracks have been lovingly remastered from vinyl by Keith Tenniswood, who as part of Two Lone Swordsmen (alongside the late Andrew Weatherall), knows a thing or two about producing top-notch electro music. A.B. HABIBI is the artist name of Edinburgh-based Aymen Bensaad. A passionate music maker, Aymen has grown up in Leith, honing his sound and sharing formative experiences alongside a wave of talented artists he is proud to call friends and collaborators. He shares a studio (The Dungeon) and more with close comrades Young Fathers and Callum Easter, and his sound is naturally reflective of the environment, instruments, and sessions they all share. Born to Tunisian parents, Aymen spent summer holidays with his father in Jendouba soaking in the Tunisian spirit, culture and heritage that is woven through his music, combining with everything he knows and is surrounded by in Edinburgh – his home – to forge raw and purposeful songs.

Ransom Note Records sub label Insult To Injury are delighted to welcome back analogue techno pioneers Buran with their second full length excursion for the label, in the form of The Hunter EP. Born of the mechanical machinations of Joe Wretham and Ian Scott, their latest instalment of furious face melters is aimed squarely at the post midnight dancefloor, bubbling away with squelchy 303 potions and black magic beats.

First single, Alnitak, opens the EP and immediately we’re confronted with Buran’s inimitable modus operandi; slash and burn Acid Techno with a scorched earth ethos. A full frontal assault of acidic sorcery, lobbing techno bangers over the ramparts as the castle walls are pummelled. Hold onto your hats, it’s not for the faint of heart!

Alnilam is next out the gate, ricocheting off the armour plating of its enemies, bouncing along and razing everything in its path to the ground. We’re delivered brief respite from the brutality with the addition of some celestial vocal edits, whose angelic timbres provide juxtaposition to the synthetic onslaught. As the smoke clears, the penultimate Mintaka glides into view. Wonderfully barbed, but gloriously lush chords propel the track forward, over a bed over automaton drum machines and staccato blips, bleeps and swirling noise.

Rounding off, ITI are hyped to have the mighty Void Complet on remix duties. Fresh off the back of his breakthrough release on CHOBU Records, London based super producer Chog Burley takes Alnitak and reimagines it in his own image. Launching with a rich, metallic arpeggio, we’re drawn into an analogue dream, before realising that’s all a ruse. We have been lulled into a false sense of security, because we’re about to be clattered around the head by that savage 303 riff from the original. We’re caught in the crossfire as glitched vocals and bit crushed acid lines vie for dominance. This correspondent knows not how to fully encapsulate the terror of this remix… watch out dance floors around the world!

Mexican singer / percussionist / producer/ DJ Pahua comes to Razor-N-Tape via a huge 12” + 7” vinyl remix project featuring some of the hottest producer names in current outer-national dance music.
Originally the singer of beloved Mexican band Sotomayor, Pahua blazed her own solo path in 2020, developing her unique electronic Latin sound through a series of EPs, culminating in the release of her standout Habita LP on Nacional Records in 2023. Garnering millions of streams, Habita established Pahuaas an essential voice of modern alternative folk/pop in Latin America.  
Now, Razor-N-Tape brings her sound to the dance floors of the world with a varied remix package that honours the essence of the original music, while flipping it in quintessential RNT club-ready fashion. The list of remixers on this project includes both staples and newcomers to the RNT production stable. Label co-headJKriv turns in a late-nite bass mix of the exceedingly popular ‘Porque Yo,’ Tigerbalm brings her chugging international disco flair to ‘Pa’lante,’ Prince of Queens digs deep with a housey dub of ‘Calla,’ and Londoner Clive From Accounts takes ‘Caña Brava’ into moody nu-disco meets Amapiano territory. 
The label newcomers also deliver in a huge way, with LA-based Captain Planet and Quebecois producer Poirier each revealing very different but equally banging sides of the up-tempo ‘Espantapájaros,’ respectively percussive and thumping, and stripped down and hypnotic. Detroit Latin production legend John Beltran adorns the melancholic ‘Flor de Jazmin’ with a samba-inflected rhythmic foundation and a lush horn arrangement that transports you straight to Cafe del Mar, Ibiza. Mexican producer Belmar rounds out the package with a slow rolling and deep mix of ‘Porque Yo.’
