ANIMALS009 sees French producer Benoit B make first contact with Melbourne’s Animals Dancing after releases on Into The Light, Berceuse Heroique, Unthank, Versatile and his own Banlieue. 

On ‘We Come In Peace’, Crystalline FM synthesis meets tight drums across four PSY FI tracks that showcase the producer’s shapeshifting style.   ‘Drums Symphony’ layers undulating rhythms from crisp drums, Arps, FM Bells & SFX that ebb & flow, building to a driving dance floor trip. ’La Retraite Des Rockers’ conjures Sakamoto & Vangelis in ’82 with eratic perc, warped metallic sfx & ominous pads that find balance with a glowing synth lead & syncopated bass.

The title track, ’We Come In Peace’ is a balearic trance stomper where swirling 303, pitch bending leads & glistening synths cascade across a pulsing bassline. 'Dreelkrugz Conquest' is lysergic mid tempo electro with gated synths hovering above a growling baseline and flutters of heavily affected synthwork.

Premiere: Current Obsession - Circadian Rhythm [Mind Dance]

The table was lined with all manner of sweet treats and delicious desserts; it was a banquet fit for a king and queen. Just looking at the infinite options available was enough to make you feel full; cream cakes were perched alongside iced biscuits, macaroons and mountains of jelly, stretching as far as the eye could see. This was something as a child they could only dream of - could death by sugar be a thing?

For their first release of 2022, and their sixth to date, Taiwan's JIN 禁 Records call on the talents of South Korean artist Yetsuby, who makes up one half of ambient duo Salamanda. Her ability to create soundscapes driven by mood and emotion is still present on this EP, but this time she explores the realms of bass, DnB and IDM across four fresh cuts. On the flip, master of the remix New Zealand's Eden Burns puts his signature progressive trance spin on 'Jelly', twisting it into a psychedelic slow burner to keep those energy levels up.

Having cut her teeth in Melbourne's lively community with her party series Re-Leaf and as a fixture on the Australian club circuit, Aldonna’s sound is clearly supercharged with dancefloor energy. And her passion hasn't gone unnoticed. Cosigns from the likes of BICEP, who tapped her to contribute to their acclaimed ‘Feel My Bicep’ mix series, prove she’s been an artist to watch for some time. Now with her debut EP, she introduces her own distinct sound which traverses seamlessly through nostalgic trance motifs and hyper ravey breaks. Aldonna is clearly making a push to be an unstoppable force in clubland.

The EP leads off with ‘Nights In Shizuoka’ and a rugged rhythm laying the foundation for arpeggiated synths building until a mystical pan flute carries the ballad to heavenly heights. Throughout the release, Aldonna showcases a knack for playing with a multitude of sonic textures, and the next track titled 'Air Sign' possesses layers of immersive textures, from tight acid lines to bubbling ambiance, haunting vocal chops, and warm emotive melodies layered over pumping breaks for an ecstatic anthem. The a-side concludes with 'For All That We Know' as a tight bass line sets the stage for Aldonna to build on her playful aesthetic with a shimmering and exuberant melody.

On the flip side, Aldonna goes full rave mode with 'The Empress' Acid Line', leading with chopped breaks before an infectious acid riff creeps and builds with seductive vocals, delivering massive energy that is palpable. Following the originals is a remix by Berlin-based Love On The Rocks mainstay Alex Kassian who aims his version of 'The Empress' Acid Line' at the most euphoric dancefloor moments and delivers a tried and true trancey euro-house weapon not to be overlooked. Rounding out the release is Melbourne’s own Marli who flips 'Air Sign' with a rumbling bass line to reveal a bumping house cut that will satisfy the most vibrant crowds in the dance.

PREMIERE: Aldonna - Air Sign

Esteemed proponent of outré dancefloor manoeuvres, Superconscious Records co-founder Fantastic Man makes his Kalahari debut proper.

Having shown up for rework duties on a couple of occasions, we find the mutable oddball at his most trippy and esoteric. In fact, OYSTER42 is the handiwork of a producer who has his formula of balmy, lysergic dance music down to an exact science.

‘Alltogethernow’ gets on a swaggering cosmic tip, all sub-loaded and celestial as levitational arpeggios and funked-up groove dovetail to mesmeric effect. ‘Alpha’, on the other hand, takes a vision quest through enchanted jungle terrain. Initiating with a hypnotic ritual chant, it’s tunnelling and murkily psychedelic; occulted dancefloor rapture tailor-made for the wormhole interior.

As if it were some artefact from a distant ‘90s utopia, Bioxy’ evokes a time when warehouse parties littered the Melbourne landscape. Where its predecessor evokes ceremony and ritual, this is an anachronistic, dilated flashback to simpler times. FM kicks it languid and life-affirming on the closing number. Radiant synth lines flutter with a gentle headiness as ‘Trojan Force’ takes us full circle with a reprise of the rainforest FX.

Every morning without fail, just as dawn broke, a small boat would appear at the waters edge to whisk the most curious of people off to an unknown destination. The boat only ever returned empty, slowly it traced its routine daily journey back and forth across the calm waters. Rumours had long circulated about where those who boarded the vessel disembarked; some said it led to a utopian island, others attested to it taking people to their final resting place. Only those willing to take the risk would find out.

Aldonna's music is perfectly tuned for late nights on the floor; think of sweaty rooms filled with energetic dancers. The Melbourne producer came up through the ranks in the city with her party series Re-Leaf and is now expanding her name across the pond with her bright, supercharged productions. "Truckupidööm is rolling on basalt stones with an hypnotic inertia of a sensual mileage. The pleasures of trembling releases from her body plastic and more plastic, spring and another spring, metal and another metal. She sheds the industry’s father from herself and turns to mother earth, to the sand hall, to the whistles of camels, to the reddish threshold where sunrises are a burning fire, and silence is an azure eternity."

Individually Tel Aviv-based producers Olsvanger and MYKI have been firing out expertly crafted productions that connect the dots between their love of progressive trance and pumping classic house. It's no surprise that when they come together under the guise of Babylon X, the output is something to marvel at, and that goes for Truckupidööm,  the project's first full EP. Dropping via their own co-run label, Tofistock, the five tracks fuse the pair's love for old school house, trance, jazz and Mediterranean Arabic sounds, culminating in a batch of  "spooky desert rollers".

As a DJ/Producer and Founder of event/mix series/music blog Re-Leaf Aldonna has rightfully marked her position as one of the most exciting new talents to come out of Australia in recent times. Aldonna’s staggering debut EP ‘Morph’ on New York Imprint ‘Homage’ was no mean feat. Empowering, immersive, bubbling. Following on recently with her second EP 'Angel Numbers' which came in the form of 4 joyous hits of euphoria, released on Bristol vinyl only imprint 'Sex Tapes From Mars'. The record excitedly bounced through its track list and the numerous blissed-out progressive and percussive grooves within it. Alongside these releases she has also contributed tracks to numerous highly successful VAs on labels such as Permanent Vacation, Semi-Delicious, Terrazzo Trax, Maai Records & more.Her unique approach to music production has led to incredible
credits, premiers, and reviews from the likes of Mixmag, Trommel, Resident Advisor and support from many esteemed artists such as Job Jobse, Palm Trax, Saoirse, Sally C, Cromby, Jennifer Cardini, Eris Drew, Octo Octa, Eclair Fifi, Fantastic Man & more.
