The low tide sits out in a sea of Balearic, dreamy goodness as the lunar force of Manuel Darquart gravitates the waves straight into Alzaya. Ambient pads rest among sun-soaked synths and that lately bassline all for the signature Manuel Darquart sound. Low Tide is the sister to a previous Manuel track of High Tide from their Infinite Pleasure EP, resembling all the same family traits.

The New Zealand duo now call London home, making records for many respected outfits such as WOLF and Childsplay. This time they join onto Milano’s Alzaya for the label first compilation featuring Cosmic Cherry, Tape Hiss, Akasha System and Nicodemo. Much like the Alzaya back catalogue, the compilation is flawless with Manuel’s track only the tip of album on repeat.

Valencia's Nacho Marco has an incredibly impressive back catalogue, with releases on brilliant labels including Freerange, Plastic City, Lazy Days, Ovum, We Play House and his own excellent Loudeast imprint too. Now added to the list is the irrepressible Chiwax, with his “The 909 Files" EP. 

Each track is simply titled 'File 1' through to “File 4“, so let's kick things off in the usual order. "File 1“ is a powerhouse of percussion and keys, with an almost Reese-esque bassline rumbling underneath. The weight of the kicks and the metronomic rattle of the rimshots thunders the track along, making this a very impressive opener. 

“File 2" slows the BPM down a few notches, the drums are again super-heavy (being from the 909, as the EP title gives away), but this time the keys take a softer approach, with glorious floating pads underpinning the mellow mood here. A wonderfully woozy closer to the A-side. 

Flipping over for “File 3“ on the B-side, the 909 is joined by our old friend the M1 bassline, with clipped vox parts adding to the energy pulsing through the track. Swinging along in a fashion reminiscent of classics such as  Kerri Chandler et'al, this is a superb straight-up warm house jam. 

Rounding the EP off, “File 4’"is built around a stabby church organ riff which nags away throughout the track, the punchy percussion and tinkling chords coming together in a swirl of joyous depth for the dancefloor. The bassline chugs away with its neat bounce, echoing the thump of the unmistakable 909 kicks, closing the EP off in the style it maintains throughout, namely exquisite dancefloor-driven house music which has a real timeless quality.

Gottwood festival has been a key fixture on the UK festival scene for a full decade now and with this year’s gathering put on ice, the team behind the revered Welsh woodland gathering have decided to reanimate their Gottwax record label. To kickstart their relaunch the label presents a gigantic triple sized compilation featuring a plethora of artists with a connection to the festival, ranging from its oldest allies to its newest friends, and representing a spread of talent from global superstars, underground sensations, musical journeymen and fledgling talent. The 30 track compilation, compiled by the festival owners alongside their new label manager Geoff Kirkwood (aka Me Me Me records boss Man Power) includes such household names as Roman Flügel, DJ Tennis (in collaboration with Joseph Ashworth), Margaret Dygas, Voigtmann & John Dimas (aka VOIGT.MAS), Ruf Dug, Ron Basejam , Appleblim and Maxxi Soundsystem, nestled alongside the best and brightest in emerging talent, such as Sweely, Anna Wall & Corbi, Bobby, Adam Curtain and Harry Wills. The result is a musical journey that evokes the scope of Gottwood festival itself, and which takes the listener through Balearica, Experimental Music, Disco, Funk, Garage, Bass Music, minimal sounds, and many of the varied forms of House and T echno.. Released digitally on July 20th via Beatport, Bandcamp and Spotify, the compilation will be the first entry in a regular schedule of releases, with a series of artist EPs set to follow which throw further light on the artists close to Gottwood’s heart.
