Ngwaka Son Systéme’s debut album brings together the newest talent of the megacity’s scene, under the musical direction of Love Lokombe (vocals, percussion) and Bom’s Bomolo (guitar), both seasoned veterans who learned their trade as founders of the band @kokokomusic.

Iboto Ngenge means “power struggle” or “seizing the opportunity” but while words can only be roughly translated, the music reaches listeners unambiguously: A potent mixture of techno, rumba, soukous, zagué and dancehall with the unique “Kinoise” brand – the city that never stops innovating in the music landscape worldwide.

Iboto Ngenge was recorded and mixed by engineer and beatmaker Levy David in the studio Timbela Ba Timbela Yo, which serves as a gravitational centre for MCs and beatmakers to share their craft.

The album opens with Okokok -the title being both a twist and a reference to the musicians’ previous school of KOKOKO! - which invites the audiences to attend gospel-like ceremony or ritual of initiation, presenting the band to the world for the first time with this melodic lullaby.

The gears quickly shift with the inadvertently techno-oriented Lakala, a trance-inducing experience where listeners can quickly relish to the lyrics even without speaking Lingala, for the shapes of the words are already inviting listeners to dance, sing and smile, all the while virtuoso percussionist Steroy operates the DIY- drum kit at high-tempo.

Fresh out of the scene, the band is joined by MCs Lakala and Boomastyl who place the emphasis on Jamaican styles with their contagious flow that carries personality and attitude all along the banks of the Congo river. The call-and-response effect, where each musician lends their voice to the choir, is particularly felt in Bo Lobi Pe, where the vocals guide us ever so playfully to the tune of an acoustic guitar that invites us to take off our shoes, kick back and relax.

Benda Singa (“pull the string”) resumes the stream of dancefloor-igniting songs where MC Lakala casually paints lyrical frames of a young musicians about to wake up from a dream and into the stream of lucid consciousness where he is caught in res media with the band is already in rehearsal-mode.

Zanga Mbongo (translated as “there is no money”) is lyrically a proud anthem to celebrating life in spite of economic scarcity, and musically it is a triumphant renewal to the legendary soukous genre of the 1970s, championed by worldwide renowned stars such as Pepe Kallé and Sam Mangwana.

The adventure closes with Dondwa, an Afrobeat-oriented tune where the vocals cary a carefully balanced dosage of autotune effects playfully bouncing back-and-forth between Boms Bomolo’s cascading guitar riffs.

The bonus dub version of Zanga Mbongo showcases the creative engineering approach of musician Diego Gomez (a.k.a Cerrero), whose past work with UK dubmaster Adrian Sherwood brought the “Dub de Gaita” project to life, thus picking up once more with renewed energy, the bond between Jamaica and Colombia, shifting the shape this time into a triangle where Congo represents the largest side.

Continuing his meteoric rise to the top of the European dancefloor, Venezuela’s DJ Baba dissects the vocal stems of band Ngwaka Son Systéme to take us on an intense ride that showcases the big- room potential of the Raptor House genre, marrying Africa and the Latin Caribbean in the process, as it always has.

Parisian imprint Ekleroshock is an independent label and publisher that in its time, has sold almost a million records.  Founded in 2002, it has been active for over two decades in the innovative electronic pop world.
 
Here the label brings us ‘En Silence Remixes’ by Antonin. Named after his grandmother’s boat, he is a global wanderer both in France and beyond, a sun-drenched character of the open roads who grew up on the picturesque Cap Ferret. On first appearance his silhouette and free as a bird spirit might have think he was a model or a surfer.  And you wouldn’t be too far from the truth as his chosen mode of travel is a surfboard. Aside from his board, Antonin’s only masters are time, the ocean, and the strings of his acoustic guitar.  
 
His debut album ‘En Silence’ was an ode to the sea and to stillness. The pop refrains, catchy ballads, and island-infused saudades created a captivating charm that guided this bard on a summer tour across the roads of France in a van, where he opened for both the Oracle Sisters and Kings Of Convenience, as well as joining the European tour of Allah-Las.
 
On this remix EP, Antonin invites friends Polo & Pan, Yuksek, Kraak & Smaak, Omri Smadar, Lazy Flow, and Dorion to work their magic on three of the album cuts. French iconoclasts, Polo & Pan, bring the tropical heat to the heartfelt ‘Je Veux Mourir Avec Toi’ (I want to die with you). Sonic dynamo Yuksek electrifies with his unmistakable nu disco touch on ‘Antonin’, while Omri Smadar (Correspondent) adds luscious pads, thrilling live drums, and works the 303 a treat on his version. La Créole resident, Lazy Flow,takes us to a Caribbean dream island, while Dutch trio Kraak & Smaak bring bags of their distinctive boogie flavour to the title cut. Closing out in a more subtle mode is Dorion who persuades us to follow him to the seaside with his sandcastles and warm summer sunshine affair.

Following 2023’s all-conquering ‘Malware Trance’ — a peak-time dose of exe.stascy played by all (all) your favourite DJs — Martyn Bootyspoon returns to Local Action with a new two-tracker of precision-tooled club heat.

One of North America’s finest and busiest DJs, we’ve made this point before but Bootyspoon is someone who just gets club music: the history, the dynamics, the key touchstones and the whole lineage. And crucially, when it comes to making it, he’s got the juice. No matter how wild or wonky, his tracks always move dancefloors, and ‘Doors at 11’ is a perfect example: hard drums and an even harder bassline that gets every bit of value out of some automated resonance and a salt shaker perc riff. Perfect heavy warm-up music, basically.

The B-side, meanwhile, feels like a sequel to ‘Malware Trance’, using a pair of interlocking synth riffs and waterdrop percussion to ride that same line between anxiety and euphoria — somewhere between a cold sweat and a hot flush.

Etienne Bel started out as a DJ and gradually developed his own producer's style. In 2016, he inaugurated the discography of his Pavel project with the release of a track on the Czech label Neo Violence.
Numerous others followed, notably on Eclect Rec., Sbire, Creaked Records and finally on Blizzard Audio Club, the stable that the artist co-founded and in which he now centralises all his new releases.
His debut album 'Busy Being Broken' (2019) was named 'best Swiss electronic music album of 2019' by national radio station SRF3 (programme 'CH Beats').
Through his alias Pavel, Etienne Bel - who is also behind the Estelle Zamme project - expresses ultra- personal, emotional and fairly dramatic music. It's a distinctive kind of electronica, made up of metallic squeaks, ethereal synthesizers, frantic rhythms and a touch of acidity.
In 2024, Pavel returns with 'Environment', his second album. Official release on May 3rd, 2024.

5 years after his debut album "Busy Being Broken", producer and musician Pavel returns in 2024 with a new LP, this time dealing with the theme of the natural environment, the host of all life on Earth.
"Environment" is a concept album based on samples recorded by the artist over a period of several months throughout Switzerland. Rockfalls, the lapping of a lakeshore, a cracking glacier, winds cutting through fir trees, the massive hum of a waterfall, ice cubes colliding, the oozing of a cave, and so on. These audio recordings were used as a starting point to construct eight tracks faithful to Pavel's style: (dis)twisted electronica, elegant, melancholic and wickedly dramatic.
For Pavel, "the pessimism of reason compels the optimism of will". This maxim, taken from Antonio Gramsci's "Prison Notebooks", sums up the essential message of the album.
