As he entered he cast his eyes around the room, taking in a mirage of flickering colours and luminous buttons. He had been travelling for what had felt like a lifetime through the dense and murky undergrowth in search of the mysterious cavern. Now as he sat perched upon the rubble he truly knew his purpose.

Hiber-nation EP was Recorded at Siesta Delfauno, Buenos Aires, Argentina in December 2019. A place steeped in history and that has seen artists like Carl Craig , DJ Hell and Rob Acid grace its halls. Ara-u worked alongside engineer and member of Argentinian electronic band Klauss Pablo Gil, while getting lost in red wine and deep into the jam amongst a mix of analogue machines. There are tracks from Vanessa Worm, and Theus Mago as well as the new Justin Cudmore track on a new label we have launched as The Night Institute. There are tracks from my Polari Records family, in the form of Shay Shaz and Micropacer, off the new 'No Tears in the Backroom' compilation and I've included both originals from my new release on Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant label.

Jordan Nocturne has been soundtracking parties in sweatbox clubs, festivals and raucous afterparties with his propulsive approach to electronic music for two decades.

The Nocturne schedule these days includes stops in Berlin, New York, Japan & London and has resulted in an uncompromising attitude to club culture that has been cultivated through playing some of the worlds leading underground parties. Jordan has soundtracked stand-out sessions at the helm of Pikes Ibiza, Fabric London, Sub Club in Glasgow and his own cult party, The Night Institute in Belfast. In 2023 The Night Institute was nominated 'Best Club Event', in the DJ Mag Best of British awards, cementing it's position as a refuge for the city's diverse characters that are looking for an alternative after-dark.

The prolific Nocturne Edits series was a runaway success, demanding several vinyl represses, while Jordan's uplifting take on house, disco and techno has found favour with Peggy Gou, Jennifer Cardini, Cormac & Erol Alkan to name just a few.

This ascent has seen the world's leading dance music institutions calling upon Jordan, with Nocturne mixes for Circoloco, DJ Mag, Mixmag and Feel My Bicep sitting comfortably alongside weekend guest mixes on Radio 1 and 6 Music.

2024 sees Jordan accelerate internationally, with a debut at the seminal Panorama Bar in Berlin, as well as tours to Australia and the USA, while maintaining a commanding studio output that continues to find homes in the playlists of the electronic music's most influential artists

Glasgow duo Saint Sappho mark their first release on Optimo Music’s new Optimo Music Rocks imprint with the single ‘Too Far Gone’, an expansive, symphonic track that sees them continue to put their own captivating spin on the heyday sounds of shoegaze, grunge and 90s Britpop.

With rich strings, skyward-soaring guitars and classic alt-rock textures, ‘Too Far Gone’ sees Saint Sappho - aka multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Zoe Young and drummer Tammy Dyson - powerfully unfurl the emotive, atmospheric heft that has characterised their impressive output to date.

‘Too Far Gone’ is a deeply personal song, with lyrics depicting the reality of human deterioration - the fading of someone close to you and changes in personality beyond recognition - in a form of both celebration and lament. Heightened drum rhythms and IDM arpeggios are juxtaposed with glitched hi-hats. 'No Duck' sounds like a trip back in time giving a firm nod towards the legacy of 90's era Warp. Recommended if you're into Brothomstates and Plaid.

On the latest Robot 84 release, producer Scott Ferguson showcases all of the progressive and groove related qualities which have made his records so celebrated and enjoyed across the globe - from the Balearic Isles to the club, and beyond….

Ferguson’s journey in music reads like a glorious mind map of places, spaces and people, with the tale starting off Djing at some of the best nights in Scotland alongside co-owning Defunkt Records in Glasgow. His production career started in early 2000, and after a number of releases under various aliases he released the much celebrated ‘Welcome to the Pleasuredome’ edit in 2013, the first release under the ROBOT 84 name. The vibe of the ROBOT84 name is that of eclectic Balearic-ness, with Ferguson keen to never stick to one particular style, but as a means of constantly evolving and exploring through music production - akin to the sound he looks to evoke whilst Doing. The joy of Ferguson’s music is that constant convergence of sounds and moods, and this has provided listeners with consistent delight as they dive deeper into his soundscapes. This led to him releasing music with a number of top quality labels, including Secret Life, Nervous, Paper, Is It Balearic and Midnight Riot. In 2019, Ferguson founded the ROBOT84 imprint, with a succession of excellent records coming out the door that further enamoured listeners to his music - as varied, distinct and well crafted as ever.

‘Cosmic Accident’ encapsulates all that makes Fergusons discography so varied, with a significant shift into the realms of House and Disco filled to the brim with groove laden rhythms, inspired vocal samples and emotive melodic overtones. The ‘Full Vocal’ version features the echoing words of Martin Luther King Jr laid over a simmering sea of instrumentation, that works from the undertow up through to the highest peak. The opening salvo features a looping synth buzz that gets the track revved up, with the breakdown moments introducing some inspired piano notes, drifting down just for a moment before leaning heavily into the core groove. The halfway mark provides a longer dip into the key swing, as the melodic lines evolve into a delicate weaving of textures and feeling. The ‘Dubbed Out’ version points the focus at the core synth move, with the track taking its time to introduce the delicate instrumentation, which when it hits provides a proper hands in the air moment. A wonderful flip side version for a single release you will be hearing a lot of in the coming months.

So why not take a little trip into the cosmos, with this most groove laden of dance music experiences, and get lots within the synths and tones - its quite the atmosphere to get deep within…..

They floated softly upon the breeze, flowing through the forest in which wild dancers lived. These were the night time melodies, sounds which warmed the coldest hearts. He watched as people all around him listened intently to the music which echoed between the trees, looking upwards he could catch a glimpse of an occasional star which flickered and fluttered against a backdrop of thick dense black. This was a magical place and these were the sounds of the natural future. 

Alan Dixon is set to release a new EP on Love Attack and it certainly leaves us longing for the sort of warm, hedonistic nights described above. This one is destined for sun kissed stages and the close company of friends on the dance floor.

Conceived in the literal underground of the INDEX:Records basement studio in Berlin, the enigmatic, new-coming “pop” group Downstairs People, is an unlikely collaborative project to be birthed from 2020 – the year of isolation. ‘Underground Pop’ is a collection of aural serotonin hits that touch the feel good receptors, genre hopping between synth-pop, house and neo-RnB. 

The group is conducted and glued together by INDEX:Record's own, Jorge Camacho, the maestro behind his alias, @vasesound. Camacho brings together a gauntlet of Berlin-based artists and INDEX: affiliates, dishing out something fresh after countless late night sessions, only to curate a serendipitously coherent record of left-field pop hits, that arrive just in time for summer.

‘Underground Pop’ by Downstairs People is out 16 April 2021 via single disk 12” LP vinyl, with full album artwork outer-sleeve and black inner-sleeve. A run of 250 copies are distributed worldwide by Rubadub and available to purchase on INDEX:Records' Bandcamp (where a limited amount are offered with a rare edition Downstairs People Zine, designed by @amos-turner).
