After her stunning release on our deeper House focused Karakul label, we are over the moon to welcome back Swiss producer Lea Lisa on our main Phonica imprint.

The ‘Love To The End EP’ takes influence and inspiration from a particular early 90s UK Techno rarity by Mark Goddard titled ‘The End’ (The Truth EP), a beautiful and emotive take on the classic sound of UK Techno that’s been much loved and highly sought after for decades, even being a particular favourite of Aphex Twin. It’s an ode to the original, rather than a remix or cover. The two mixes re-imagine the sound of soulful and deep Techno, combining driving basslines and drum machine grooves with atmospheric and nostalgic synth lines.

On the A-Side’s ‘Manchester Club Mix’, the focus is laser focused on peaktime dancefloors with a slowly building level of euphoria matched with rolling drums until the breakdown chills the mood and the plucky, earth shaking bassline returns before the tension is released and the melodies float effort- lessly around the pounding rhythm.

Over on the B-Side, the ‘Sunset Mix’ jacks up the drums with kicks and claps that shake your spine. The bassline rolls steadily throughout the mix but the melodic lines this time are more restrained, introspective and subtle, echoing and harking to past rave memories with ease...

House of Disco is a label run by Magnier and is dedicated to unearthing joy for your neglected earlobes. Next up comes something a little different for HOD by Athlete Whippet with their ‘Talk About This Love EP’.
Athlete Whippet are renowned for cleverly fusing different musical influences into timeless contemporary jams. Spread across Berlin and London, they’ve become an integral part of both cities’ scenes with releases and remixes for Toy Tonics, Rhythm Section and Kitsuné Musique.  They co-run the artist collective and record label Squareglass - an established home for rising talent coming out of South London, with a roster that has included Seb Wildblood, Hidden Spheres, Jitwam, Glenn Astro & Will Saul.  Their releases have had reworks from Ross from Friends, Baltra and Max Graef, and following a lockdown season with shows on Balamii, Rinse FM, HÖR and Worldwide FM, the duo ended 2021 with European tour dates alongside Session Victim, Dan Shake, Paula Tape, and COEO.
On ‘Talk About This Love’ the London/Berlin duo draw you in with dreamy pads and submerged vocals and a quiet energy that holds you and you just don’t want to let go. Their second original ‘Dreams of Being Alone’ channels that same energy but with a touch more enthusiasm and joy. Skittering and splashy drum programming is offset by the playfulness of marimba-esque synths which plant your feet firmly in the sand of a lonely beach. 
Austrian maverick, Demuja takes ‘Dreams of Being Alone’ and whips you off that beach and onto the sweaty dancefloor adding a tougher four/four approach with punchy strings to get the floor swinging but keeping the marimba front and centre. London’s Aroop Roy steps in to tackle ‘Talk About This Love’ and as expected, this versatile producer has gone his own way adding.

Toy Tonics House Music from the new Kate Hudson movie! Millions of people will hear this Italo Disco House track after the new movie "Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon" will be released on 30 September. 
The song by Toy Tonics artist Rodion from Rome is part of the soundtrack for Ana Lily Amirpour's new movie.

Its a fresh take on funky house and Italian 80ies disco. No vocals just groove. Works well for dancefloors of today but also for chilled out home danceing. 
The song is part of a compilation album that will come out later on Toy Tonics (the Gomma Dancefloor Gems).

Rodion - Atala Ride

Tee Mango, aka Tom Mangan, drops three unique house jams, featuring his own vocals on a cpl. My pick of the pack is the title track that belies its name, going for a deep, smooth, key-laden house sound. Nice stuff. Coming on Paris-based label Ano Ano.

St Petersberg's Dobro label is noted not just for the quality and playability of its funky house and disco re-edits, but also for its value for money. This, their seventh release, is another great example, with no less than six floorfillers included on one 12", each bringing their own individual mood to the table. 'Flowers Festival' from Sun Rhythms has throbbing organs and fruity keys, topped off by a gorgeous Russian vocal. DJ Merci's 'Timetable' goes for chunky rave pianos and Fairlight stabs, lending it an 80s Italo-disco feel, before Ground Plane Aerial's 'Transition SP' closes the side with slap bass and stripped down house vibe that echoes some of Roule Records' more accessible moments. Side two VIGI's 'I Am You', is the most memorable of the whole package, with its idiosyncratic female vocal weaving a magical spell around the listener, before we finish off with a double whammy of Monny Me's swirling stringfest 'The Name Of The Game' and the parping horns and strutting groove of Ugly Frankie's 'Free Alcohol Shit', the latter including a bewitching and unexpected piano solo. Great work all round.

They say that there are 64 ways to launch yourself into space – whatever space may be. Perhaps you could soar or fly in a rocket or aeroplane beyond the clouds and into the pearly black abyss beyond. Perhaps you could catapult yourself upwards from the earth below or perhaps you could simply fall asleep and drift between the stars a million miles away.

Back down here they all seemed like grand, exciting ideas for the few rather than the many.

However, maybe one day they might all be able to dance together amidst the cosmos and remember a time way back when… back when they were all rooted to the ground.

Amsterdam duo Dam Swindle return with new music on their own Heist Recordings. This time they have invited influential powerhouses of dance music to reimagine their material, a track titled ’64 Ways’ which features Mayer Hawthorne.

Nightmares On Wax and Dj Bone have both been enlisted to rework the song, picking it apart and piecing it back together to offer their own respective takes on the vision. Listen to the Nightmares on Wax version below:

Ben Gomori debuts on House Of Disco Records with a meaty package of acid-laced cuts and some huge remixes. '7AM At Wintergarten' was inspired by his sprawling late-night / early-morning sets at the legendary Wintergarten room at Berlin's Sisyphos, and was debuted there to great reactions. Panoramabar resident Massimiliano Pagliara completes the local link with his excellent heads-down, stomping remix.

'Mars Joint' is a tribute of sorts to one of Gomori's heroes, Kerri Chandler, and combines one of his classic patches with gentle acid licks and whirring feedback FX. Jordan Nocturne crushes his Italo-electro remix—succinct but hugely effective—while promising Irish newcomer SHEE goes for a tough but deep atmospheric interpretation.

Melbourne-based Joey Coco returns to the home team with a two tracker alongside the talented Ralph Session on the remix. 'Bubbles' offers up warm keys with infectious percussion and Joey's very own vocal talents. Rounding out the pack is Ralph Session taking those early '90s NYC feels with a remix for those that like it deep & jackin'.
