The cheeky yet sophisticated “Manzo Edit” calf returns with a fresh assortment of four lushly revisited cuts. First on the menu is “Digestif”, a laid-back Disco House track ideal for setting the dance floor groovin. “Get It” also falls into the downtempo realm with its smoky acid beat, while “Dancecraft” hits you head-on with a load of robotic funk. Lastly, “Forneria Moderna” pays a festive homage to the Latin side of Jazzy House.

Rollover Milano is back with another killer release from Lorenzo Morresi entitled ‘Isla’ EP. The label is still kicking up the cosmic disco dance dust at their longstanding weekly party at the Apollo Club, Milan. This glam affair has hosted a long list of luminaries, which is mirrored on the labels roster and output of dark disco, deep house, and Italo space funk.

Lorenzo Morresi, a producer, and DJ who is constantly searching for new sounds, blending genres, merging analog and new technologies. With releases on 22a Records, Fly by Night Music, Roots Underground, Wall of Sound, INRI, and SuperEclectic, his sound spans other worldly vibes, jazz-funk sonics, and blazing electronica as a DJ and live performance.

 

Isla is one of the main protagonists of the movie ‘The Holy Mountain’ by Alejandro Jodorowsky. She is a companion of the Alchemist who tries to find the Holy Mountain to find the secret of immortality. This whole EP is inspired by Jodorowsky’s work.  Morresi imagines transforming the dreamlike atmospheres that accompany Jodorowsky’s dystopian vision into music, bringing them to the club, primed to be played at high volume, in dark light, on discerning dancefloors.  'Jodo' is recorded live, and flows between electronica and experimental jazz, but with a dark and ritualistic core. 'Odissey Venezia' originates from studio recordings that Lorenzo made while playing the Loutar – a Moroccan stringed instrument - combined with a deadly dancefloor backdrop made up using a Roland TT303. 'Isla' is based on slower rhythms, organic percussion, and decontextualized voices of old sampled records. The 'Outro' uses some quotes from Jodorowsky’s books, robotic and digitally generated phrases combined with a rhythmic beat that encapsulates the meaning of this EP, being Lorenzo Morresi’s life long focus on the fusion between dance rhythms, psychedelia, and musical transcendence.

There are many shades of funk in dance music. Berlin’s Toy Tonics label brings up artists that reflect many of these different aspects of dance music. Now the label comes up with a band! A band that is inspired by 1980ies New Wave as well as the Y2K Indie dance scene. Two guys and two girls from Amsterdam and Montreal called Baby’s Berserk.

Baby’s Berserk is about taking the freedom to be who you want to be, about being comfortable. Having played in all-girl punk bands since the age of 14, the bands singer Lieselot is an expert on female empowerment. “Dress like a girl and act like a boy,” is a catchphrase she lives up to every day and it clearly is a message that resonates with the band’s wild fans.  

In the great tradition of Roxy Music, Throbbing Gristle and Malcolm McLaren, Baby’s Berserk is not just about the edgy music but also about a very strong own visual style. They readily blend their sounds with underground fashion. What you see is what you get and seeing Baby’s Berserk is feeling right at home. Lieselot is a visionary when it comes to stage presence. Have you always wanted to see an electronic band with a punk attitude perform wearing a mix of haute couture and Flintstone-style rags? Look no further, it’s Baby’s Berserk. 

Following on the critically acclaimed singles ‘What I Mean’ (2020) and ‘Toxic Kisses’ (2022), Baby Berserk’s highly anticipated self-titled full-length is now finally about to see the light on Berlin’s Toy Tonics records. Sonically designed for gritty rock venues as well as up-to-date edgy dance clubs, Mano’s lush compositions smoothly intertwine with the highly associative lyrics written by Puggy and Lieselot. Poets and literary addicts may think they’ve just discovered the rock & roll equivalents of Sylvia Plath, Kurt Vonnegut and Allen Ginsberg. To tell you the truth: their wild guess is pretty accurate as the works by these greats lie scattered around the Baby’s Berserk studio for inspiration.

The band was born in a laboratory back in 2019. Tired of being in bands with unruly and unpredictable humans, Mano Hollestelle set out to create a group of high precision robots to create the post-punk sound he had in mind. His outdated technology of floppy disks and cassette tapes worked well to program the androids, until one day a 90s rave mixtape was mistakenly entered into his computer. House music is a feeling and the punk bots instantly got hooked on it upon hearing it for the first time. They could never be reset to factory settings again. Mano worked tirelessly with his androids, currently known by their humanoid names of Lieselot Elzinga, Puggy Beales and Eva Wijnbergen, to fulfill his evil plan to make the rockers dance and the dancers rock. Baby’s Berserk is the fiendish extension of this plot. Beware, the band’s bass driven grooves and computerized beats have been known to cast a spell upon all within earshot.

So what do the songs on ‘Baby’s Berserk’ tell you? That it’s totally fine to have lots of fun in life! To have a boyfriend as an accessory (‘Accessories’), to get inspired by Sponge Bob (‘Dancing with the Fish’) and to blend your spirits with mixers whenever the hell you feel like it (‘Rum ‘n’ Kola’).

Baby’s Berserk member Puggy Beales on ‘Limousine’: “Decant the wine from my tip jar to yours. Soon we'll be on easy street, chauffeured home from the rat race each evening. Is it everything you'd hoped it would be?”

New Digital Fidelity has been making sweet moves recently with a debut on the lauded Moods & Grovers label out of Detroit followed up by a single on his own Scopic Records. Now he brings his class to Crush On The Beachside and again shows off his love of Detroit house vibes. Opener 'Crush On The Beachside' is raw and intense with humid chords and jacked-up drums, then 'Shattered' brings more loose and jumbled beatdown grooves and 'Crush On The Beachside' (K15 remix) is then bubbly, jazzy and cuddly. 'Cracking' rounds out with more rich chord work and bristling drum funk.
 
Crush On The Beachside will be available as a 12" and Digital on August 14th.

Sending you something special for the weekend from Disco Freaks Recordings, a partnership between Chris Davies (Disco Freaks/Acid Jazz Records/ Defected Records) and Swedish singer Julia Axnér. Here they present their brand of 70’s inspired disco grooves with a distinctive modern touch. New release ‘Shout From The Rooftop' sees AXNÉR collaborate with two members of Nile Rodgers & Chic original outfit - drummer Ralph Rolle and singer Audrey Martells.
 
AXNER's latest cut 'Shout From The Rooftop' is as glossy and golden as disco gets!  It's soaring vocal and funky basslines benefit from some high-grade remix treatments via a starry host of talent. Glasgow's answer to Walter Gibbons, the Million Dollar Disco DJ, BBE Records compiler and re-edit producer Al Kent turns up the disco dial to ten with his ‘Encore Remix’, bringing his golden touch he spoils us with a perfect new Balearic sound and lashings of heartwarming Rhodes solos.  New York City music royalty and original Studio 54 DJ John Morales hands in both a ‘M+M Club’ and a ‘Main mix’, plus an atmospheric ‘Instrumental’ for those who prefer to leave the vocals on the side. Morales add layers of lovely keys and increases the goosebump factor with soaring chords and a funk fuelled guitar addition. The resulting versions are brimming with glorious instrumentation and nonstop grooves. Closing out the affair is rising French artist and Folamourcollaborator Kousto who opts for a more subtle and sunny house flavour leaving ‘Shout From The Rooftop’s’ original synth work exactly where he found it.

Pure uplifting piano-house bliss! Ben's second ARCo release, PRELUDE IN E, comes dressed in classic-house attire and demonstrates a broad depth of knowledge of the genre.

Back-up remix detail comes courtesy of MAKE A DANCE, taking us in a slightly more ‘techy’ direction, infusing pushy snares reminiscent of recent afro-house stylings. Their dub does what it says on the tin and adopts a faster tempo pulling and pushing in and out to create a very clubby affair.

A very strong remix from KEENEcompletes the package: more beautiful deep-house sounds that hold tightly to the groove. A brilliant and much-needed nod to a genre we all continue to love!

We are very excited to welcome yet another new talent to Dirt Crew Recordings! J. Peacock is a Blackpool born artist, raised on Northern Soul and nurtured in the Manchester music scene. In 2015, he started making and releasing techno under the moniker Joel John. More recently, he has turned his focus closer to home, inspired by uplifting house music produced by friends, and sampling his favourite records played by his dad over the years. Last year he released a first collab track with Laurence Guy on “Shall Not Fade”.

J.Peacock's “The Praying Kind EP” marks a new musical chapter: combining nostalgia and dance floor energy. In his own words: “The goal was to just have fun, experimenting with a new way of making music to what I’ve been doing previously. Taking influence from artists I used to listen to constantly like Soundstream, Cottam, Boo Williams as well as artists close to me like Harry Wolfman and Laurence Guy. This record is about creating something that gives me flashbacks to my dad playing tunes in his flat.”

The opener “Philly Track” is a true original House tune reminiscent of those classic records in the early 90s, think of the Paris French wave sounds or New York style cut up and filtered “good times” dance floor hitters.

“Silk Road” starts out as a tribal groover with some great vocal sampling going on, this one is much more situated in the Bass and UK style areas of House Music. Again with a big touch of Soul and deepness all around.

Then on to the breaks laden “Midnight Standard”. Here J. Peacock shows us another side of his musical spectrum, much more in the regions of a Harry Wolfman production even with touches of progressive breaks. A really great dark and smoke filled club tune!

Closing out with the title track “The Praying Kind” he opens up all filters here and brings us a great banger of a track. Slowly building towards that big middle break to unleash a real dance floor monster. This one should tear it up anywhere!

Enjoy this lovely soulful, diverse House EP by J. Peacock! Surely a great start to his new project!

Nik joins the Dishevelled London family with two energetic House tracks, which drive warm feelings of 90s nostalgia. The A-side ‘A Hurricane over a lake’ has vibrant pads, classic sounding leads and an ethereal vocal hook. ‘Wrong chords’ is a lovely slice of piano house, channelling a more jazzy vibe complemented by a super funky bassline.
