He runs the label Belly Dance Services and after earning spurs as half of 'Hanzo & Yaman' he recently started some new projects; i.e. 'das molekuel' with his wife Geraldine, or a series of quirky dance tracks with A-Tweed from Rome. After contributing to the impactful “Shelter Me/Beats For Beds – The Remix Album”, whose proceeds were donated to the NGO Shelter UK, Ian Vale is back on the cool British label Paisley Dark with an EP to call his own. "Like lots of the tracks I’ve produced, “Loft Music” started out in a completely different place to where it eventually ended up”, said Ian. He also declared that the track was "created during the lockdown – it has been tweaked, played, and fine-tuned to what is now the version presented on this release”. He kindly claimed that he feels incredibly honoured to have remixes by some artists he has genuinely admired and looked up to for some time now. He meant Mindbender, Ed Mahon (SXDNS068), Jezebell, and 33rd December plus Duncan Leitch who reworked the bonus track.

Premiered here, Ed Mahon’s interpretation kept the main aura of the original, especially its acid attitude, but added some extra elements such as trippy synth layers, percussive elements, and a Funk-ish/Disco-ish dash. And before you ask: Yes, cowbells were properly added. But maybe not enough? 😉

Enchantment is the name of number thirteen on Funnuvojere Records. It comes from Eamon Harkin, the Brooklyn-based Irish producer, DJ and label owner, known for founding long standing New York parties Mister Saturday Night & Mister Sunday. These parties have given birth to Nowadays, a permanent club space fast becoming a renowned New York institution. Harkin’s Mister Saturday Night Records has been a guarantee of quality music over the past decade and his productions have appeared on respected labels all over the world.

On Massimiliano Pagliara's label, Harkin's Storytelling EP is a four-track exploration of sonic sensations, marked by a minimalistic approach and a maximalist sound design. A bold bass line, distorted industrial pads and bouncy synths are the materials with which the opening track Reactance is built - a classic banger for sweaty late night dance floors.  Multiple string sequences jostle effortlessly in Dolphins, a Detroit-inspired track that has us floating in oceans deep. 

Lead single Enchantment is an 8 bit experimentation of house music with electro - euphoric, direct and beautifully harmonious. Title track Storytelling resounds as a polyrhythmic funk track, tinged with romantic melodies and alien pads. It closes this EP, elegantly highlighting the breadth and subtlety of Harkin’s musical knowledge and production skills.

Eamon Harkin - Enchantment

Producer, artist, sound guru and DJ Vinny Villbass hails from Oslo with releases on Eskimo and Trunkfunk. He has also worked with experimental electronic artist Pantha Du Prince and is a versatile performer and musician. Here he works with Sommerfeldt who has previously worked under various aliases on acclaimed labels such as Paper Recordings and Full Pupp. He is an equally prominent figure of the Oslo club circuit and both of these new tracks came together while eating basement fish (fermented trout that's been cooking in a bucket of brine in a basement for two months) in a wood cabin somewhere in the Norwegian mountains during the pandemic of 2021.

Opener 'Back in Time' leans backward in both rhythm and harmony and creates plenty of space for its heavy claps and hypnotic vocal cuts. This alluring and artful groove is perfect for both sunlit beaches and dark clubs alike. As always with this label, it's a track that oozes musicianship and class.

The equally fresh 'Basement Fish' goes even deeper but explores harder energies as disharmonic analog synth mayhem is held together by rhythmic vocals from the ever-amazing Toshybot who was once part of late 90s supergroup Tøyen. It's a rugged groove with tripped-out synth effects designed to bring all new vibes to the dance floor.

Mushrooms Project’s futuristic 6-minute odyssey Sun Down gets the dismantling from another cast of balearic astro hackers, reaching complete solar alignment since those acclaimed Sun Up remixes earlier in the year. Slightly - large - tip!

First up is James Bright, who brings his concretely clean-cut sensibilities to the fore in a cosmic quest that thumps along in controlled, unhurried ecstasy. Shapes sweep in and out of focus, building and morphing into an epic balearic crescendo for collective shuffling at dusk.

Proceedings continue with Ale Doreto delivering another balearic gem on his Late Remix, shifting gears on the original track with touches of psychedelia and bubbling bass that curls on the edges like flames cast out of the campfire. +10% tip!

Finally, D. Faux morph Sun Down into a sizzling, low-slung breakbeat chug, firing off omnidirectional acid lines, an invitation to some deranged dance party in some basement under an abandoned pub - you know the one, and you never wanna go home again.
