Roam Recordings kicks off 2022 with up and coming Canadian artist RJ Maxwell who brings forth two original electronic dance floor movers. The title track - Motherboard - is a driving energetic offering with melodic electronic underpinnings. The second original - Activate - is an upbeat chugger with a playful vocal. The EP is backed with three diverse remixes. The first is from Wonder Stories boss AIMES who infuses dark psychedelic energy into a shimmering remix of the original title track. For the second remix Canadian cohorts jON2 join in with a gorgeous low slung version of Motherboard. Rounding it out is Roam’s own Jason Peters who edges Activate into cosmic breaks 
territory.

As the war keeps unfolding, more and more people flee the country and seek refuge abroad. Sadly some are often overlooked and are left to fend for themselves in an unknown country with no one to turn to. This is why local community support is needed now more than ever.

100% of the proceeds from the compilation will be donated to Bridge Over Borders Berlin - a community-based collective of fellow artists and volunteers that aim to support BIPoC, LGBTQIA+, and other marginalized individuals with housing, essential items, medical care, integration support, and immigration advice.

Belgium’s Camiflage inaugurates his Snaretrade imprint this June with a three-track collection from the artist himself.
Camiel Hermans aka Camiflage is a Belgian producer and DJ, member of the p-l-a-n-e-t DJ collective in Brussels and now label-owner of his new imprint Snaretrade, pencilled for launch this coming May. His sound blurs the lines between House, Techno, Downtempo and Leftfield, resulting in something entirely unique in itself and as a DJ he’s known to take a similar path with sets traversing through genres for a dynamic journey across the electronic music spectrum.
Leading the package is the playful ‘Fake Carbonara’, featuring a spoken word guided recipe for an inauthentic take on the Italian classic atop bumpy 90’s-tinged hip hop beats, reversed string swells, plucked synths and heavy subs.
‘Further Instructions’ follows and shifts focus over to bubbling arpeggios, skippy, shuffled drums and intricately intertwined resonant licks, squelchy acid bleeps and tripped-out voices. ‘Beekkant’, named after a Molenbeek Metro Station, then rounds out the EP on the B-Side, bringing a UK bruk influence into play via crunchy broken drums, oscillating subs and ghostly synth textures.

This was something I came up with one day while I was mixing some tracks. It's different. It is what the self learning fill settings on some effects in Cakewalk create on their own from a few small sound samples, as they learn and feed off each other. I hope you enjoy it. Comment if you like it or if you don't.

Dua, Bebe, Doja... Alone they are amazing, but together they are even better. It's like Eating Starburst with pop rocks, and then pouring some soda pop in, stuff shooting out your nose, mouth and ears. Datsik tries to bust up the triple dip, but got smacked down and remixed. This mix is all twisted up, down, sideways, It'll have you wanting more, just open another bag of them Nacho Cheese Chips and fondle your mouse, click on the next track and, there you go. Finger sucking pleasure, no extra charge. But a comment would be  nice. Drop one and tell me what you think.

Now for something a little different on the Make A Dance imprint, M.A.D 003 sees the first joint release on the label and welcomes rising Yorkshire post-punk outfit DEADLETTER to collaborate.

When we heard the demo for ‘Line The Cows’ we knew we wanted it and with Make A Dance being more of a feeling than a genre, we knew there was scope to collude. Two studio sessions later and we had it in the bag.

The first version of ‘Line The Cows’ is a combination of both the Make A Dance and Deadletter styles, a synthetic baseline providing a deep groove as the backbone of the track with Zac’s vocals cutting through like a knife.

The second track we recorded the band doing a full live take in London’s Pony Studios showcasing just how tight this 6 piece band are.

On the flip Make A Dance get to work with the remix package with broken beats and arpeggiated baselines, turning the track into a dark twisted monster fit for a 4am bass bin workout.

PREMIERE: Deadletter - Line The Cows [M.A.D Records]

A 12” filled to the brim with talent, Schrödinger’s Box have collected three juggernauts of wave tainted electronics for the latest. Dmitry Distant teams up with Norwell for a partnership of serious intent. The pair deliver a trio of blackened tracks, opening with the ghoulish caverns of “Transient State” before the long shadows, acid stains and painful echoes of “Visionary.” The duo venture into brighter territory with the computer funk of “On A Verge of Veil”, crisp beats and bubbling melodies changing the tone. Following Beyond the War, Cute Heels returns to occupy the flip. The Colombian is immediately on it with the swirling mirrors of “Kuriyaki Horizons,” a kick drum offering solid footing in this entrancing piece. An aloof, yet alluring, disco hook takes hold for “Litua”, a low thump keeping time. The finale arrives with the clipped industrial gait of “Determinated In Order.” Marching to a military beat, this work is industrial inspired with Cute Heels keeping a close ear to the pressure release gauge.

After an initial link up last summer, Altrimenti Records present four more remixes of cult Italian synth maestros Cabaret Du Ciel. Once again the focus is on experimentation, testing unusual crossovers between artists, eras and styles in pursuit of compelling new sounds.

Cabaret Du Ciel were founded in 1986 and have left a fascinating breadcrumb trail of beautifully sculpted electronic music behind them, culminating last year with their first album in over 20 years, The Breath Of Infinity. The source material for these new variations is once again drawn from this LP, reaching across continents and musical communities to present further reflections on the Cabaret Du Ciel sound through a spectrum of perspectives and approaches.

First up, Benedek approaches ‘Great Plains’ as a low-tempo space-boogie excursion. Following in the wake of his releases on Leaving Records, L.I.E.S. and People’s Potential Unlimited, the LA-based artist lays down thick slabs of Moog while retaining the ethereal swirl of the source material.

Rome’s L.U.C.A. (aka Francesco De Bellis) has established his new wave-inspired sound on his own Edizioni Mondo label, not to mention working in other projects such as MAT101 and Jollymusic, and he brings a sprightly, motorik energy to ‘Climatic Variation’.

Lorenzo Fortino’s ‘Suspacid Revisitation’ version of ‘Lakota’ is aqueous and psychedelic, but remains elegant and understated in its execution. The emergent producer has already released on Wo-Land and most recently Miniera, and this remix ably embodies the entrancing qualities inherent in his sound.

The remix package concludes with a playful, leftfield electro diversion from elusive Montreal-based producers Sentena. Hailing from an emergent scene orbiting the Doo label and projects like SnP 500 and Fashion, their crooked take on machine music perfectly meets the adventurous aims of Altrimenti in testing out crossovers of styles and creative processes.

The results across all four of these versions are distinct from each other, and distinct from wider trends in dance music. In the dualistic spirit of musicality and experimentation which tracks back to Cabaret Du Ciel’s own approach, we’re presented with music brimming with personality and individuality that once again celebrate the ‘possible alternative’ Altrimenti have set out as their area of interest.
