Calm Stiege makes his release debut with South-London label Dancing Family. The 2020 winner of the Point Blank and RA music scholarship brings his infectious production skills for his first EP ‘Dumb Dumb’. Over the past year the DJ and Producer has been making moves with his acclaimed edits that have taken Soundcloud by storm. His edit of Anz’s ‘Panrico’ has gained him widespread acclaim on the world wide web culminating over 13k streams on Soundcloud. 

On this 3 track project the South-East Londoner delivers 3 groovers perfect for the dancefloor. The long-standing AAJA Radio resident cherry picks elements from his go-to genres including UK Funky and Garage. ‘Exhaust’ starts things off with dark undertones and jumpy rhythms. With broken patterns and mysterious vocals this UK Funky inspired track is ideal for those head-down moments in the dance. Topping everything off is Calm Stiege’s signature Flute melody which you can find throughout his productions and edits. 

‘Dumb Dumb’ continues the project with a floating melody and hard hitting industrial-like House rhythms topped off by groovy percussions. This one is a must when wanting to get that dance floor nice and warm for all the heaters to come. To end things in a more light hearted manner is ‘Sweat Dreams’ a track filled with hope and sweet melancholy. With UK Funky percussion and an infectious Saxophone Matt A.K.A Calm Stiege shows off his ability to swerve through different moods and energies within his production. 

Whilst Calm Stiege has been making waves with his production and output (giving the people one Free Download a month) you can also catch the DJ playing the London circuit. Whether it be at Peckham sweatbox Four quarters or Corsica Studios you can also be sure to catch him on AAJA radio fortnightly showcasing some of his own work as well as his favourite tracks ranging from Garage to Grime to UK Funky. Back on Boiled Wonderland Records, Max Mason returns with the dynamic dance floor thumper, ‘Slope’.
The new single flutters between reggaeton rhythms and a jungle break, surprising the listener whilst bringing a focused dance floor energy to the spirited track. Opening with siren-esque synths and developing into acid basslines, Slope immaculately progresses to deliver a core energy and vibe to this warehouse orientated cracker.
Asked about the record Max states “It just made sense to release this record now after living in Asia for 5 years and being back in the UK” Max says. “This record has that UK feel and something else that I can’t quite put my finger on. For me, the track gives the listener exactly what they want from a dancefloor tune. Energy, dynamism and an element of surprise”.
Boiled Wonderland favourite, Chalo, follows up with a remix that maintains the eerie feel from the original while pushing the tempo and vocal to almost breaking point. The Thai producer really crafts an exquisite set of broken drum patterns that have now come to define much of his recent productions. Recent shows for Boiler Room and Wonderfruit further confirm his place as one to watch for Techno lovers.

Intercept welcomes Destrata with his debut EP for the label: Squib. Over three tracks, the Vancouver based artist shows you his take on UK influenced bass and techno.

The title track 'Squib' is Eli's first foray in 4x4 music and showcases his talent for energetic moves whilst still retaining a taste for detail. With a lead built out of a twisted vocal sample and a bass that's as grooving as it is chest pumping, it perfectly sets the tone for the EP.

'U4ia' is next up and is built around the idea to run all percussive hits through different colorful delays and reverbs. Gritty textured bass stabs act as a counterpoint to the heavy kick pattern. Combined with the ever shifting hi hats the track feels oddly tribal without stepping
into clichés.

'What Dreams Are Made Of' ends this banging EP, but delivers something different. Destrata forms a bridge between the current wave of mutant dancehall and higher tempo Latin American inspired club tracks. It showcases his feeling for off kilter rhythms and bass even more.

As I walked through the forest, the colours around me seemed to intensify, as if the world was flooded with hues of greens, blues, and pinks. Suddenly, a strange creature appeared before me, its a body kaleidoscopic shifting shape of colour. "What about never?" it whispered in a voice that echoed through my mind. I was struck with a sudden realisation - what if I never left this place? But before I could ponder further, the creature disappeared and was replaced by a pulsing beat. I followed the sound to find a clearing, where a group of people were dancing wildly to the hypnotic rhythm of Capracara. It was then that I knew I had found my new home

Following his remix for Max Cooper, Mattr’s next releases are two electronica / breaks tracks on his own imprint Loft & Sound. With these two records Mattr continues to build out his crafted approach to electroni- ca with two intricately layered and textural records. A-break features syncopated melodies, heavy bass and melancholic pads. Corps fuses granular synthesis and found sounds with delicate instrumental flutters to create an atmospheric record.

Mattr is a leftfield house and electronica producer, DJ, visual artist and label owner from Birmingham. He's had a busy 12 months with a remix of the classic house record by Mephisto (1992) followed by his own four track EP on the legendary Renaissance, two remixes for Berlin trio Akzenth, his first release on Balance Recordings and a remix for Max Cooper to round the year out. In between he's produced several releases on his own imprint - Loft & Sound and has a remix for Grammy nominated Steven Weston for an upcoming release.
