Holidays on secluded beaches; long hikes up a mountain to catch the sunset; an unforgettable meal at a restaurant on the square: her preferred means of escaping reality had become impossible over the last year. Now she relied on her imagination to whisk her away. She closed her eyes and pictured herself somewhere free from the pressures of daily life; the waves gently lapping at her feet, the wind rustling her hair and the sun streaming down on her face.

For his debut release on Loose Fit Records, Leipzig-based producer Planetary Secrets explores themes of escapism, translating his personal take on what escaping reality means to him. Conjuring up fantastical feelings of nostalgia and imagined worlds throughout, the opener, 90s rave-inspired 'Guatemala Dreams', transports listeners into dense jungle, while B-side, 'Burning Fist', is a love letter to vintage video games, specifically Tekken. These two original cuts are backed up by remixes from Lobster Theremin affiliate Pépe and Breaka Recordings boss, Breaka.

After years of being lost at sea, the ancient scrolls containing the long sought after fragments of X-Coast were discovered. It was decided that the transcripts be pressed onto plates and scattered throughout the realms, so that the age-old knowledge may never be forgotten.

On the front side of the disc, we deciphered two XTC transmissions. The first, "XTC I" dates from the original session. The second is the final attempt known to us, "XTC V".

The reverse side unfolds with an interpretation of "XTC V" by the prophet known as Foamek, who brings it to new, uncharted reaches of euphoria. The next scroll, titled "Horns" is a real collector's gem, played just once before during the inaugural X-Coast Boiler Room - transmission Belgrade.

The plate ends with what we believe is the first X-Coast session ever recorded. Simply called "Horizon”, it was evident that the inhabitants of the island stumbled upon something legendary.

This is a one-time opportunity to obtain the scrolls. Do not let them fall into the wrong hands!

Minor Detail is a DJ / producer duo from Northern Ireland, consisting of C58 and DJ Debauchery, who self-released their first dubby, breaks-infused track called “Proximity Dub” in March 2022. To have a stage for their own releases as well as the ones of their favourite artists and friends, the two decided to start their own label, HEIFER. On the debut release of the new imprint, Minor Detail have brought together four artists who provided diverse, very dancefloor-ready tracks between breakbeat and techno.

First off, we have “#2” by techno, electro and breaks producer Cosmic Chaos from Liverpool, UK. Dark choir style pads, arpeggiated synths and basslines are combined with breaky drums and percussion in this one to create a very driving electro track.

With "Bout Us", Parisian producer Lungo presents us a new track under his alias Usotsuki. This superb roller combines a UK Garage aesthetic with UK-style Breakbeats in a stripped-down way, all centered around raw, unpolished drums, snappy claps and percussion and a thumping bass line, with some synths piercing through here and there.

“BZTTRX22” by Irish duo Street Legal from South Derry is the most techno-oriented track on the first HEIFER release. It combines ravey, 90s-inspired synth sounds with massive drums, a bass synth playing octaves and a rolling sampled drum break, resulting in a track fitting best to a party in an abandoned warehouse.

Finally, the Various Artists EP includes a track by Liverpool-based DJ Debauchery. The title “Donk-y Kong” already tells us that we can expect a UK Hard House styled track. It indeed includes the characteristic donkey offbeat bassline as well as short synth stabs, driving drums and some vocal cuts which sound like samples from a video game – presumably from the one the title refers to. Definitely a fun track for fans of the genre!

Here's a new one from me. I've been asked about this one loads recently and it's actually a remix rather than an original production. I was asked by Nervous Records to pick a track from their back catalogue to remix, for their 25 year anniversary celebrations. Initially it was a daunting task considering how many iconic tracks they've released over the years. After a few days digging, I remembered this ambient interlude mix that Francois K did of Kim English back in '97, and I always loved the chords that come in towards the end. It's the first time I have done a remix of a remix, hope you enjoy!

Having commanded the airwaves of UK tastemaker station Balamii, alongside folks such as Chaos In The CBD and Ross From Friends, Madi’s had a brilliant platform to share underground tunes with the masses. This certainly isn’t AK SPORTS first foray into release land either, having piqued the interest of labels both locally and in the Eurozone. There's a nice spread on ‘Polarize’, a full range of emotions, from the injection of dubstep styled low ends, playful, light percussive and vocal tones of UK Garage and driving nods to techno and uplifting jacking house. Lovers of breaks, bass and sharp percussion, this one’s for you. The opener ‘A Flash Storm (And Then It Was Gone)’ is a menacing recipe of tech stabs and clapping breaks. A2 ‘Houdini’ is a brief reprieve from the wee hours, a shimmering and uplifting roll of synth. Flipping over comes ‘Dit Quelque Chose’, a reappropriating of the breakbeat AKS we already know and love. Translated into English meaning ‘say something’, Madi uses myriad of drums as the driving force for the track. The result, a personal and cathartic release. A comment on that anxious, silent air between two people wrapped in a feud and the insecurity that manifests. No samples here either, Madi happens to be bilingual. Then there’s ‘Tank Girl’, a fun and ultra bold serving, an experimental nod to a spectrum of UK underground club styles. A record that possesses an inherent drive to get out and cause a stir!
