It had been a week since he'd looked at the news; he had to check out for a little bit — it was all becoming too much. Good news was few and far between; nowadays the cycle consisted of devastation, of loss, of violence and oppression, a doomscrolling exercise that only had a negative outcome. Elsewhere there were tall tales, outlandish conspiracies and fake news, warping the minds of people across the world... There were positives happenings out there, but where to find them?

Since 2019 Good Skills, the label run by Lithuanian DJs and producers Roe Deers and Titas Motuzas (BDHBTS), has represented "the noise of Vilnius' youth", building a space for local talent to share their creations with the masses. Next up from the pool of Lithuanian music makers is Shkema who comes through with his debut LP 'Kronikos', split into two parts, inclusive of four originals and four remixes. Described by the producer as a “world news show, where each song represents a different story”, the release pulls from real experiences, hearsay and entirely fabricated stories — some of which get a rerub from Simple Symmetry and Each Other, the project of Justin Strauss and Max Pask.

PREMIERE: Shkema - Ispanija (Each Other Remix) [Good Skills]

Modern Slavery is a 4-track EP including two original tracks and two remixes. Aurum delivers two slow-moving tracks driven with dark atmospheric sound design with obscure programmed female vocals layered with energetic basslines.

The second track ‘Vicious dreams' takes a groovy twist. With a consistant looping bassline pattern which forms the primal pace for the piece. Relative to it’s sister track ‘Modern Slavery’ Aurum keeps the continuity of mysterious vocals to couinside the intrusive rolling basslines. Complemented with upbeat old school lead sounds and crisp percussion.

Established in 2018, Suffragette City is a not-for-profit Manchester-based club night held annually to mark International Women’s Day. They raise funds for local grassroots charities supporting women and gender expansive people while creating events for all genders that are full of positivity, solidarity and mischief.

This May 10th, they’re bringing their friendly Manchester vibes to London for an afternoon of excellent music and community at our friends The Social, 5 Little Portland Street where Suffragette City residents Kath McDermott (Flesh at The Haçienda/Homo Electric), Ghost Assembly (Abigail Ward), and Ladybeige (The Social Service) are joined by Sounds of the Universe’s Vandorta.

After Yuu Udagawa’s highly acclaimed EPs “Ride It” & “Peaceful Dawn” from last year, she’s back again in full effect presenting four classy, sophisticated and timeless jazz-electronica-house hybrid tracks for Compost.

The title track Golden Glow is a electric samba-infused broken beat gem, with joyful vocal melodies and a superfunky bassline creating a truly elevated vibe.

Reverie comes in smooth slow-motion house guise. Yuu's ethereal vocal interludes unfold in interplay with playful piano improvisations, underpinned by an irresistible groove.

The track “One More” seems to come straight out of a smoky jazz club. Jazzy piano sounds meet plucked double bass, underlaid with dreamy synth pads and Yuu's whispers from the twilight zone.

On Velvet City, Yuu unleashes her soulful vocal talent and her flair for wonderfully ambitiously produced deep house. A great, uplifting jam that appeals to both the heart and the dancing leg.

The car moved slowly, weaving between the traffic and the flickering lights up ahead. The myriad of colours whizzed by as they entered the rollerstate – the city encompassed everything and swallowed it whole.

There was silence in the backseat. The driver made little motion but for the occasional twist of the wheel.

Outside there was noise, outside there was madness.

Inside there was peace. A subtle warmth to the bubble in which he sat.

The city was his home.

Mosley Jr. releases an excellent collection of deep, dubbed out house music with delicate moods and nostalgic references. This one sounds as good on a lonely bus ride home as it would in the club. Heads down.

Working this way led us to develop (at least we’re trying) our own sound. A mixture of techno (often downtempo), afro and balearic rhythms, Italian samples and self irony.
