There was no end in sight, the path stretched far into the distance for hundreds of miles and, so far, there'd been little to no signs of civilisation along the journey. They knew what they were in for; they had a long road ahead and they'd stocked themselves accordingly, but they'd not factored in how mundane it would be - a trifle more visual stimulation wouldn't have gone amiss. Maybe up ahead they'd find themselves passing through a small village or jumping over a trickling stream because at the moment this trip felt like a huge schlep.

Sangre Voss has got a knack for wonky, tripped out rhythms - just listen to the London-based DJ and producer's outings for Rhythm Section, Control Freak and Third Place to hear for yourself. It's on these, and his new EP Konon for International Extraterrestrial Music, that he explores the off-kilter spheres of electronic music, carving out his own unique space in the world of leftfield dance. Full of twists and turns, and with drums at the core of the release, the six tracks mutate through sounds like leftfield bass and percussive techno to hypnotic chug, but all with Sangre Voss' distinctive oddball touch.

Today we a premiere a track from Welsh native Maroki who joins the Running Out Of steam team for a six track EP of eclectic grooves, from breaks to moon-lit acid. ‘Alfred Stole My Brain’ is tranquil ceremony of electronics which is both welcoming and meditative, but maintains a functional dance-floor vibe.

Originally from West Wales now residing in Amsterdam in a studio nestled beside the river Ij, Maroki now joins the ROOS family following a string of stellar releases.

Maroki leaves nothing to chance, using his classically trained skills and expertly engineered sounds into a pool of influences that range from breaks, moon-lit acid and heads-down chuggy goodness.

The now Amsterdam based producer has put the down and grafted in the studio for this release, pulling inspiration from various places and pulling out a mixed bag of goodies for his debut on Running Out Of Steam.

‘Alfred stole my brain’ poses as a swarm of warm and inviting melodies, gliding flanges, deep bass and blissful harmonics, but stays dance-floor ready with crisp and poignant drum work. This is a real delight from the Welsh man.

Adam BFD first burst onto the scene with his distinct, emotive driven productions, making a name for himself as an artist bridging the gap between electro, breaks and house through tear-jerking melodies and cinematic euphoria. The six track EP spans cosmic breaks and ambient soundscapes that give off an almost audio-visual vibe.

Adam’s tracks are generally accompanied by meditative song titles and sprawling pads, and EP opener ‘I’ve Been Waiting’ encompasses this perspective. The track's subtle movement signifies that change is constant, but there’s always beauty to be found whether we’re waiting or not. ‘Sonar’ enters the fray with its bass heavy kickdrums and chopping breaks. Duality is sourced within the tracks melancholy, yet hopeful musicality, before the A-side comes to a close with ‘What’s Next’ - an ambient dreamscape that plays out amongst the cosmos. 

Title track ‘Innervisions kicks things off again, this time verging slightly left but still distinctly Adam, with an ethereal glow and moon-lit glaze. Buoyant and gated pads communicate the mood in ‘M1 & I’, before The record’s end comes in the form of subaquatic beats and ocean blue arpeggios, shimmering brightly across the surface. Personal, intricate and emotive, ‘Innervisions’ is a candid story told from a producer who lets the music do the talking.

Gather are back with their first release of 2022; Lightwork by Bristol-born, Manchester-based DaiSu, member of the all female/non-binary collective Not Bad For A Girl.

Cutting her teeth in Manny over the last few years, DaiSu has been featuring on lineups for the likes of El Dorado, Keep Hush, Red Bull and Loose Lips alongside the vibesy parties being organised by her own crew.

With sets ranging from high NRG breaks & electro to garage & bassline, it’s no surprise that her debut solo EP incorporates stylistic elements from across the sonic spectrum. Lightwork and Not Even follow the breakbeat tip with the latter making use of euphoric synths and vocal samples to off-set the darker bassline that gives the track a real strobe light, peak time feel.

First In The Fight leans towards the lighter UKG side of things and to balance out the EP Gather have sourced an exciting dark 2-step remix by the big, bad LMajor. The Club Glow don has taken the original and reconstructed a greezy darkside beat that, just like the vocal sample, will leave you breathless in the dance.

With the range of sounds on Lightwork, this release can be slung into many different flavours of sets, from fist pumping peak hours, to the euphoric after hours and beyond.
