The Lagaffe boys have a special one for you. Lagaffe 10 marks the 10th EP in our vinyl series and serves as a perfect way to end our 10th year in existence. To mark this occasion we are releasing a 4 tracker with our founders and label regulars. 

The EP opens up with Cohen Social Club by Flexi Leifs aka Felix Leifur. Our man Felix lost his drum machines last spring but luckily he found a guitar and some drums. The track starts off with suspicious sounding guitar notes that somehow up as pure beauty, giving hope in the darkest of places. Frodo with the ring stuff, if you know what I mean. Playful reverbs and echos give the tune the classic Felix Leifur feel to it! 

Moff & Tarkin has the next track "Pure Fury", some breakbeats and cheesy disco vocals, why change a winning recipe? 

Next up is "We are not alone " by label boss Jonbjörn. I think this is what Elton John meant when he said "thank god for those electro bangers!" Solid 909 drum work featuring dramatic chords and some original vocal work. If you can spot the sample write us on Soundcloud and you might win a year's worth of LaCafe Tales! 

With "Að handan" Viktor Birgiss comes back to the label in style. Our mastering engineer described it as having the loudest kickdrum in history, imagine that! Lo fi dub sounding drums interlaced with atmospheric chords, made for those late night intimate moments on the dancefloor, again Frodo with the ring stuff, if you know what I mean.

Pablo Auguste and Kilian "K2" Rebreyend are De Phase. Accustomed to numerous jazz-funk-soul bands and formations, the two young musicians decided, back in 2021, to start their first project as a new duo : the result of their own background and their electronic aspirations. Initially conceived for live performance, De Phase was born on stage and grew on tour throughout France. Quickly enough, in front of an audience or in the studio, De Phase is unanimously appreciated.

Their first album, « Bonjour" is the result of years of touring, revitalizing their jazz, funk and soul background and experimenting in the studio. For their first piece of their discography, they deliver a 10-track album that formalizes their signature hybrid sound: a deliberate meeting of Max Graef's filtered-offbeat house and the ardour of the new English jazz and RNB scene. An album that also marks this convergence between the stage, the studio ; the acoustic and the electronic.

Surrounded by their close friends and long-time collaborators, 'Bonjour' is family affair. Starting with the participation of Guy Rebreyend, K2's own father, here on saxophone on the beat for "Mr. K", or his brother Matisse on the sweat RNB track "Honey Love". This is followed by many featuring, including the 2000’s RNB single "Obsessed" with Algerian-Norwegian singer Nancy Khadra and the French- Cameroonian singer Ndobo Emma. Singer Stace is also featured on 'When It Comes To Me', with Jeenko as co-producer.
Following the release of « Bonjour » De Phase is soon embarking on a 15+ date tour , including a date with Kamaal Williams, one at Jazz à Vienne and at the Festival Radio France.

Stories would be told about him one day, that was for certain. As the sun began to set he looked out over his small village and considered his options, might he run away or stay and fight. The light was fading slowly and it felt symbolic of the way in which his own time was running out.

Never had he imagined he might be forced out like this, yet his truth was all that mattered now and the stories that he’d leave behind would go down to be those of mischief and meander. Perhaps it was always supposed to be this way, a Lahla boy running wild and free with no place to go.

Supreems is set to release a new album on the newly launched Sweet Sun. It features a number of emotive electronic cuts channeling elements of broken beat, breaks, UK bass and beyond. This track features vocals from Off the Meds affiliated vocalist Kamohelo.

Floors Records is set to release a new vinyl project titled ‘Trinity Various’ at the end of May. The release will bring together an original track composed by a member of the Floors Records collective, a rework by Gin Tonic Orchestra, and a remix by an international DJ. This project is the first of a series of recurring releases by Floors Records that will follow the same format.

The French producer Kaffe Crème, known for the highly sought-Kaffe Crème EP in 2016, has contributed an original track to the project called ‘Nuits Sonores’. The track pays homage to the festival of the same name in Lyon, France, in a classic old-school House style.

In addition, Chicago legend Ron Trent, widely considered one of the most talented and accomplished deep house producers of all time, has remixed the Gin Tonic Orchestra’s rework, adding his own unique touch as the Godfather of the genre.

Head hydro-tripper Black Eyes has risen from the depths of the deep to release his debut solo record 'Hydro-Trip vol. 1'. Fresh off the sea creature’s back from co-producing the ‘Planet People - Terra Firma EP’ with synth-botherer Reedale Rise which came out earlier this year. His solo endeavour takes us on a jazzier vibe yet still keeping true to the deep ways of the water.

  Lead track ‘Understood Sea Being’ plunges us on a rugged ride with deep Detroit chords and Black Eyes’s own punk-like vocals throughout. ‘Let’s Get Deeper’ slows the pace up with chopped up samples and introduces us to the classic hydro-trip sound we’ve grown to love down here in the underwater cities; it’s deep and trippy.  

‘Scuba Lyfe’ picks up the pace a bit but evolves into a low down dubby groove mixed with some hi-tek jazz. Asking Rolando (who we all know was part of the infamous Underground Resistance and Los Hermanos, as well being a Berghain resident DJ more recently) to come on board the subterranean vessel was an obvious choice for remix. He switches the gears and adds some fluid Detroit techno to finish off the EP. Berlin-based Deskai masters the EP, who also mastered the 'Planet People EP', so you know what to sonically expect.  

This EP has been in the making for some years and we are happy to finally share the way of the hydro-trip with all you land dwellers. As per usual with anything hydro-trip related; scuba gear in heavily encouraged when listening this EP. Let’s keep it deep!

PREMIERE : Black Eyes - Understood Sea Being

Sounds Familiar is the world-renowned artist agency, label, and record store that is synonymous with quality and heart. This year Sounds Familiar is celebrating a decade in dance music by releasing 3 LP’s. The series entitled “Familiar Sounds”  dropped its first volume in April and featured Dego, Kamma & Masalo, Aleqs Notal Feat Anu, Kai Alcé, Retromigrationand Hugo LX.  On the second volume Sounds Familiar continues to join the musical dots with artists from the roster spanning elastic acid house and candle-lit piano jazz. Familiar Sounds Volume 2 features another heavyweight lineup that includes the mighty Kaidi Tatham, Carista, Gigi Testa, Zopelar, Alex From Tokyo and K15, all on a 12” vinyl album that reaches all corners of the roster’s electronic jazz-influenced sound.
 
Kaidi Tatham’s upstart summer anthem ‘Misguided Youts’ kicks off. Built on a piano vamp and an infectious horn line, the track eases into a consummate piece of future fusion, stirring the melting pot of London’s jazz and broken beat heritage into the kind of soulful jam that has rightly earned him his legendary reputation. Taking a deeper dive, Carista tweaks the dials to deliver a slice of rubbery four-to-the-floor dancefloor business. Rattling snap-back snares give her track ‘Love Me Right’ a kind of early hours dynamism, the dream-like vocal sample drifting across a room of loose and swaying bodies. Gigi Testarounds out the A-side with shuffling outernational house track ‘Summer Snow.’ Integrating his passion for global rhythms, the Rush Hour affiliate, and Organica Record Shop owner channels the shimmering opulence of the Amalfi coast on what is an indulgent boat party of lush pads and sun-dappled melodies.
 
On the flip Zopelar delivers the jazzy, disco-infused house of ‘Arapuca.’ There’s a skittish energy to Zopelar’s offering, which wriggles and jives between muted trumpet improvisations, George Duke’s ‘A Brazilian Love Affair’ and the kind of in-the pocket synth work he is known to have among his arsenal of musical skills!  Alex From Tokyo weaves in the stripped back influence of his former Berlin home into the techno-pop landscape of his Japanese upbringing, heading in to go out on the cosmic club cut ‘Wa Galaxy.’ Closing out the LP is DJ, producer, and man of many monikers, the inimitable K15. Putting on his jazz hat most associated with his work as Culross Close, ‘Autumn’ is a solo piano ballad that brings the exuberance of high summer to a reflective end, demonstrating just how varied and open-minded the world of Sounds Familiar is.
