This month sees the Belgian producer Kiani and His Legion donning his techno moniker Far Out Radio Systems via his own Tanzbar Records, Dutch multitalented techno maestro Boris Bunnik’s return as Silent Harbor to Copenhagen’s Echocord imprint with a gorgeous new album, Mary Yalex’s fruitful collaboration with the Tokyo’s ADSR Collective, Canadian producer Bwana stepping up under his own name Nathan Micay to Whities,  Orbe’s bringing his production prowess to Maceo Plex’s Lone Romantic label, a dancefloor-friendly makeover of LCD Soundsystem’s  “American Dream” album single “Oh Baby” by the ESP label boss Lovefingers,  
Tornado Wallace’s magnificent contribution to Wildlife’s album remix package, the New Zealand’s duo Chaos in CBD bringing stunning deep house excursions to their own newly-fledged imprint, In Dust We Trust, the Dutch electronic music wizard Love Over Entropy putting a magic touch on Marc DePulse’s eponymous new single and Einzelkind’s hypnotic contribution to XLR8RPlus’ series.

Exclusive: Ponty Mython - Onimano X991

It's been a moment since Ponty Mython, Alex Pletnev's anagram alias and one of the many monikers the artist calls his own, drops his first full EP, Onimano X991, after having taken some time off, at least from producing more housier music. According to the artist, he's dedicated himself to computer games, where he found new inspiration in the earlier Need for Speed series, invested into crypto currencies and shaved his beard off. Actually Alex has become an ordinary human being over the past months before joining the electronic music scene again for his EP on Not An Animal Records. Before the release of it in a few days, the artist speaks about the scene in and around Opium Club in Vilnius, that he took things way too serious a few years back, how a bar saved his life and of course the EP itself.

Another sonic experiment for your listening curiosity, Ab Und Zu drifts the liminal void between brain stimulating atmospherics and club-centric resonance. Take a kaleidoscopic trip through the off-kilter, composite sounds of London-born label newcomer Midnight Manoeuvres.

Titular track Ab Und Zu combines metallic SFX, gyrating melodies and some choice vocal cuts in a psych-tinged techno merger, while Moored strips the tempo back to chuggier pastures reminiscent of early tinkerings in trip hop and breakbeat. Then rounding out the original set, Spincycle brings a darkly satisfying arrangement of aqueous textures and hardened drones - the Autechre-esque flourish to your tumble down the rabbit hole.

Stepping through on the re-fix, Control Freak’s Customer Service offers an accelerated, dubbed out and glitched up interpretation of Ab Und Zu, complete with arpeggios and wobbles dialled up to max.

The final track of the EP - and a Bandcamp exclusive - reimagines Brownstone’s iconic R&B anthem If You Love Me, introducing jaunty drum work and weighted bass to the track's soulful, heartfelt lyrics; a move inspired by the genre-bending label and club night Autonomic, founded by dBridge and Instra:mental.

PREMIERE: Midnight Manoeuvres - Moored [Erbium Records]

leoleoleo is a project by Manchester based DJ and producer, Leo Burrell. After a euphoric debut single in the spring of 2022 which saw support from Horse Meat Disco, Sasha and Bill Brewster, as well as DJ sets alongside Romare, Cody Currie and Crazy P, Leo returns with a more melancholic yet still optimistic, tropes EP, landing on November 25th, featuring collaborations with jazz pianist, Rupert Cox and ambient guitarist, John Diver.

The tropes EP continues the half-glass-full aesthetic of the agadir/parapet EP, with soaring pads, arpeggiators and synth leads taking center stage, all underpinned by consistently broken kicks – there's no 4-on-the-floor in sight here. It has a definite home-listening dynamic, but all the tracks explore modern dance-floor tropes, hence the title.

The first and only single, red sun (out November 4th - music video ) was born out of a formative trip to Jordan in January 2020, with memories of crossing the sublime Wadi Rum desert in a jeep inspiring epic soundscapes, punctuated by a momentous breakbeat, pounding kicks and a funky yet machine-like bassline.

Opening track, yuánfen ft. rupert cox sees offcuts of jazz pianist, Rupert Cox’s forthcoming debut album sampled alongside an elusive ‘60s sample. More pads and analog goodness were added later by Rupert, with leoleoleo on arpeggiators, drums and arrangement.

Third track, esme ft. john diver is a collaboration with Glaswegian ambient guitarist, John Diver which was previewed back in April, leading to support from veteran, Bill Brewster as well as play-listing from EELF, Majestic Casual and Sasha, who added it to the burgeoning LUZoSCURA editorial.

Acting title track, trope, was written in the first lockdown of 2020, with a doomsday sensibility pervading throughout. Inspired by Joy Orbison’s Slipping EP, this deceptively slow number chugs with a driving energy from more broken kicks before unfolding into a huge bass drop which concludes the EP.

PREMIERE : Far Out Radio Systems - Voronoi

‘Multiverse’ is a word used to describe an infinite group of disparate universes including the ones currently inhabited by humans. A myriad of realms that sit side by side, undetected by our senses, surround us at any given moment. The multiverse theory was first confirmed by tracking leakage of electromagnetic waves filtering from one dimension into the next. When these waves were transposed to fit into frequencies audible by the human ear, the recordings were studied by a team of scientists, who found that they contained rhythmic elements that resembled a speech pattern of an alien language.

After years of research and manipulation the audio was found to be a looping recording of an alien voice speaking the words: ‘IDWT005; coming soon to a universe near you.

PREMIERE #700 | SWIN - End Game [Late Night Drum Club] 2019

“When the driver reaches ultimate speed, he realised the world as he knew it was morphing. The array of beams and city lights became waves of spectrum entering the quantum realms. The sizzling frequencies became rhythmic melodies and his body started to get lighter and lighter until he reached 0 gravity. This anamorphic world he entered was called The Drive.”

Entering the remix world for the first time, at Fauve Records, it was important to create a panoply of genres. We thoroughly selected 4 remixers for The Drive [Re-Mix] EP. 

On duty first is Lauer (Running Back) from Germany who needs no introduction. To our eyes, his recognisable touch was perfectly fitted for the title track “The Drive”, nostalgia was the approach, long build-ups bringing you into a melancholic trance.

Number two is our long time favourite local Hong Kong producer who also needs no introduction, Mr Ho (Klasse Wrecks). His approach of “Ke Ai” is a murky old school raw beat goodness, using short snippets of the original to re-create a club heater that will guarantee sweaty walls in warehouses.

We’re not done with you yet, our third guest, two fellas from L.A. known as Warehouse Project Society that recently released on DJ Harvey’s Mercury Rising. This duo has been on our radar for quite some time and we knew they would reinterpret “Fray” perfectly. Long and behold, mesmerising atmospheres, dub grooves and a specific dark touch that can only be perfectly executed by these maestros.

Last but not least, our up and coming favourite young Singaporean producer Bongomann (Darker Than Wax). We highly recommend following this little chap. His signature style being airy house breaks, he was the best bloke to remix “Air House”. His soft broken beat 90’s feel englobes the whole track lifting you up on a little cloud all the way. 

We want to thank from the bottom of our hearts every one involved in this release as it holds a special place in our story as our first Remix EP.

We hope you enjoy the tracks as much as we enjoyed putting this little puppy together.
