‘Olive Juice’ draws from my early days of DJing in Los 
Angeles. It’s inspired by Bloghaus-adjacent legends like: Oliver, GLOVES, Mylo, Chromeo, Poolside, and the blogs that paved the way for dance music’s evolution at the time.

I was in studio having a casual YOLO Mojito when I started playing around with a Wurli lead. 
I then added some warm synths, too much cowbell, a splash of cuica, and a 303 lead made from analog. The bass was inspired by lords like Alan Braxe & Fred Falke, while the acid lead draws inspiration from the ledge-dogs of Poolside.

The lyrics of the vocal sample speak of wanting to love—and wanting to love with. Whether that love is romantic, familial, topophiliac, or tied to a person, place, or thing is up to you. I have my own personal meaning, and I hope you find yours.

‘Olive Juice’ is my 2nd 
official release and altho I’ve got a long way to go on my production journey, I continue to enjoy every step of the ride. Thank you for listening, your continued support, and for those of you who continue to inspire me and make me move.

Bixi’s aka https://soundcloud.com/lokke sophomore EP on Canadian imprint https://soundcloud.com/breathingroomrecords is upon us. Simply entitled Natural, the release is a further exploration into the Switzerland-based artist’s love of organic sounds and textures. Following up on his debut Aquarius EP released last year, this time Bixi, who also goes by his more jazzy main alias Lokke,
decided to forego the sampling and played most of the instruments himself with a little help from his friends. This includes keys, guitars, bass, synths, kalimbas and all sorts of other percussion. The four track EP is also the first in a set of upcoming digital-only releases for Breathing Room.
The title track, Natural, is led by a tranquil kalimba melody while being underpinned by a driving moog bass. A percussive break in the middle of the track serves as a reminder that the track is still meant for the dancefloor, BPM not withstanding. Flip has a sharp kick and hefty moog bassline reminiscent of last year’s Cosmic Water, while the melodies are once again contrasting that heaviness with a light-hearted flair. The third track, Phanta, is a percussive affair with rhythm guitars aplenty, perhaps being the most footwork friendly of the bunch. The closing track Moka takes on a breezy atmosphere with sunny pads and playful melodies, transporting you straight to the beach.

With an abundance of amazing tunes and music coming out of these restricted times, it’s made for a bumper crop of wonky chuggers, acid heaters and sun kissed Balearic bangers for our annual ‘A Summer Riot’ EP. So much so, that’s this year’s IX instalment has bolstered considerably, now spreading over two editions, and with 6 tracks apiece from some of our favourite producers.
Seasoned Futureboogie pros, Christophe and PBR Streetgang, head up the selection on Part Two, with Christophe delivering a meaty, reverb soaked, acid brain bender on ‘Critters 2 (The Revenge)’, whilst the PBR boys offer up a sleez and seductive Moroder inspired romp.
Glasgow’s Manakinz make a second appearance across the two ‘A Summer Riot IX’ releases, with the hypnotising ‘Mystic Throbber’, whilst Roe Deers come good with the quirky and funky sounds of ‘Monkey Dance’.
‘Fire In Zero Gravity’ by duo Acolyte, touches on Detroit techno soul and inspirative piano work for their entry, and Jakobin seals off the EP with the ghostly ambience and shuffling beats of ‘Mighty Mt’.

PREMIERE : Christophe - Critters 2 (The Revenge)

Fragile X is the new collaborative guise of Inga Schunn and Dylan Chase, the latter has been releasing material as Caffeine Worldwide over the past few years. Here with the ‘Lifetime’ EP the pair inaugurate their new project, the collection of tracks was recorded over four days in Mexico City in early 2019. Schunn provided vocals while Chase focused on the mechanical aspects. It was mixed by Chase in Mexico City in 2020, while he was sick with Covid-19. We don’t know if there will be another record. A lot is uncertain these days. This EP marks the third vinyl release by Bouquet, a label and party series based in Chase’s hometown of San Diego.
Title-cut ‘Lifetime’ leads the release with garage tinged off-kilter drums, swirling atmospherics, snaking sub bass grooves and resonant synth melodies all dynamically
 underneath Schunn’s hypnotic vocal stylings. ‘Prix’ follows and employs a similarly organic rhythmic feel while stirring in airy string melodies, plucked strings and an amalgamation of fluttering woodwind and acid synths throughout.
‘Karaoke Gurl’ kicks off the flip side of the EP, edging into electronica realms with a bumpy 303 bass hook and dreamy synth chimes while once again welcoming Inga’s silvery vocal contributions. The ‘Fragile X’ theme then concludes the project on a cinematic tip, nodding towards an early 2000’s IDM aesthetic with broken drums, textural synths and organ melodies.

The dancefloor loomed, an endless escape from the trouble and strife of the daily cycle of repetition and denial. The same routine was fierce. But nothing stirred, not even the rumble of a car ignition or a stray cat sniffing out its next meal. Everything was quiet, peaceful. Too peaceful... 

Next up on Massimiliano Pagliara's Funnovojere Records, lovingly named after a small beach in southern Puglia, is an instalment from London-based producer Harsh Puri under his Reformed Society alias. Joining the likes of Rotciv, Armonics and James Booth on the label, Reformed Society brings a collection of raw, harmonic synth cuts that blur the boundaries between techno and house. With the first drafts getting the seal of approval from the Guv'nor himself, the late Andrew Weatherall, you can be assured Cosmic Perspective's celestial synth melodies will have you beguiled from lift off to touch down.
