FP003 - A continuous Stream of Sonics Running in Your Area

`Running In Your Area` is the third Faux Poly release of 2022 from label bosses Kassian. The release solidifies the mood of the label and moves Kassian closer towards a heavier techno sound, just in time for their Berlin debut at Panorama Bar and HÖR this summer. All three tracks feature the instantly recognisable voice of Theo Parrish, lifted from his infamous Eargoggles show on NTS.

`The Machine` builds on pads and acid elements synonymous with Detroit techno and introduces a strong UK Dubstep influence. This festival leaning electronica track remains restricted and confident, creating a sense of power and presence.

`Off World Vehicles` is simple and surprisingly explosive, a weighty statement techno track suited for bigger rooms, featuring a slow churning acid line and cavernous vocal loop.

Finally, `Actions` is a solid rolling techno club tool which manages to be both reliable and unstructured at the same time, with a looped out vocal and talkbox style acid line.

Mumbai based artist Nate08 has been dazzling his home crowd with outstanding performances as a DJ and live performer. Signed to London label Needwant, his sound touches on the groove-oriented territories of R&B, neo soul, and soulful house with his elegantly spun productions. Real name Nathan Thomas, Nate08 presents a kaleidoscopic debut in the shape of this much anticipated album 'Furaha'. Setting the tone with Latin guitars that glide over intricate percussion on the title cut, Azamaan Hoyvoy's vocal follows livening up the summery haze of 'Trigger Fool', while the funk-flecked 'Bunker' sees Nathan's bass proficiency arrive in full force.The captivating chords of 'Hold Up' soar over rolling bass and shimmering synths, while 'Sunrise Sunfall' is a stunning example of Nate08's organically spun deep house prowess that features Jitwam's soul-drenched vocal locked inside the dancefloor groove. ‘Want You’ features Mumbai artist Megan Murray who’s vocal provides the perfect hook, there’s an R&B house hybrid 'Feel It', with a striking performance by Lojal, followed by 'Cold Muse' with its broken drums and heavy chords that play out over some deadly bass. GLBDOM is back with a second vinyl release as good as its first. This one pulls totters six super sweet racks from various artists who all share a subtly old-school vibe. The house they make comes with lovely retro-future feels and hints of 80s and early 90 magic. Jeff The Fool kicks off with timeless deep house and seductive French spoken words. The irresistible grooves come thick and fast from there with Scruscru & BR Selecta dropping in some kinetic 2step grooves, and dusty old and breakbeat sounds from FRR FONK come doused in synths soul. A trio of various jacking, smooth and soulful cuts see out the reverse.

Seb Wildblood kicks off the year with his ‘vitara 3000’ EP, a dispatch loaded with three atmospheric cuts which seamlessly dive between sounds of nostalgia, broken beat and euphoric melodies. The three-tracker via Istanbul-based label Oath is his first release since dropping his warmly-received sophomore LP ‘do you feel it too?’ on all my thoughts.

‘This EP was born out of having the first solid space to be creative in since moving to LA from London. There’s a call and response element to the record via vitara 3000 which quite literally refers back to my last album ‘do you feel it too?’ that came out in May via the vocal sample. I see my catalog/discography in phases, and for me this EP reflects the final few chapters of the sound and energy I’ve been exploring over the last 18 months or so.’ – Seb Wildblood

‘floor science’ is the first to drop listeners into Seb’s kaleidoscopic soundscape, indulging ears with a scintillating, high energy cut that’s inspired by tech house of the noughties. Title track ‘vitara 3000’ trips into a blissful place, one where the question posed by Seb’s second LP is answered in the euphoric flight of the vocal, literally calling out “I can feel!” A new studio space and a grab for new studio gear gave creative steam to ‘re-location.zip’, a track that radiates with new beginnings from the elevating chords to the skittering synths, and soaring vocal.

Following the success of Holo’s groove-driven debut Atlas EP, he’s back with another dreamy 3-tracker on Lost Palms.

Drawing from pop, classic rock, acid and 90’s hip hop, he has managed to hone a truly idiosyncratic sound which at once is recognisable and takes you by surprise. The aptly-named Technicolour EP demonstrates the Melbourne producer’s prowess in creating rich, warm, chromatic soundscapes which are downtempo but pack plenty of body. Following the shuffly house number ‘Juniper’, reverberating chords and MPC
claps define ‘Shosa’ before the balearic-tinged ‘Try’ leaves a sweet taste in our mouths via acid melodies and airy pads.
