Electropical Pt.4 takes a deeper excursion into Afro-Latin music to create a unique blend of timeless, acoustic ‘Roots’ and contemporary leftfield production. This latest installment of the acclaimed project helmed by Juan Laya & Jorge Montiel, the duo behind the much loved Los Charly’s Orchestra, evokes the spirit of the Amazonas forest, the beating heart of their native  Venezuela. The sounds are born of the earth and nurtured for the soul.
The EP features performances and remixes from longstanding friends and  musical allies: Oyobi, who has recently been busy working with none other than AtJazz and Aroop Roy, brings a burst of intensely vibrant energy to Kalimba Vibration while the mighty Andre Espeut lends his utterly distinctive 
voice to Abstract Fragments Of A Dream. As for multi instrumentalist-producer Kris Houston he puts his signature touch on Beyond Civilizations. As always the music is brought to life by a pool of superior players who are the house band for the Imagenes label. Saxophonist-flautist Marcelo Andrade, guitarist Raphael Delphino, percussionist Emeris Solis, and bassist Mateus Nova ensure that the grooves are tight and that the magic of a live session enhances the precision guided esthetic of programming and sequencing. 
Committed to their quest to represent Venezuelan culture as imaginatively as possible, Laya and Montiel are turning the Electropical series into an essential document of music that has heartfelt respect for heritage in the most complete sense of the term, from the people to the land. Yet they nonetheless engage with all manner of contemporary technology. The result is truly compelling 
music that succeeds in bridging the gap between past, present and future.

Tony G, Drummy, and French Horn Rebellion reimagine Haruka Salt & Tongji’s ‘Everything We Love Will Fade in Time’ EP this September on toucan sounds.

Following Haruka Salt and Tongji’s original EP earlier this year, which picked up support from the likes of Carista, Elena Colombi, Cromby, Ciel, and more, Brooklyn imprint toucan sounds ready a heavy-hitting remix package featuring reinterpretations from French Horn Rebellion, Drummy, and Tony G.

Breathing new life into the original EP, toucan sounds team up with the Sorry Records crew to deliver a family affair featuring some of New Yorks most exciting talents. Leading the release, label boss French Horn Rebellion, via their singer Robert PM, turns in an emotive vocal performance over the original track, utilising dense reverbs to match the dynamic arrangement.

Following is Drummy’s take on ‘Never Satisfaction’, which sees the NYC-based DJ/producer flip the track into a tripped out breakbeat jam complete with flanging FX, dubbed-out vocal hits, and pumping low end. Rounding out the release, Sorry Records honcho Tony G turns in a banging house remix of ‘Scrabble’, reaching for snaking acid lines, snappy drum hits, and dense chords.

PBR Streetgang return to their home imprint KURTZ to deliver their latest EP ‘Sendeturm’, accompanied by a remix from Paranoid London’s Johnny Aux. 

Long-standing members of the house and disco landscape with releases via the likes of Skint, Crosstown Rebels and Futureboogie amongst many, Bonar Bradberry and Tom Thorpe, aka PBR Streetgang, continue to evolve and impress as one of the most consistent and diverse duos on the scene. Holding down residencies at the likes of Pikes in Ibiza, whilst making stand-out appearances at the likes of Glastonbury, Printworks and Love International – a festival which holds a special place within this latest EP – the duo launched their vinyl-focused KURTZ imprint in 2019 in impressive style, gaining support from the likes of DJ Harvey, Bicep, Soul Clap, and the late great Andrew Weatherall. Following a brief hiatus, the duo now return to home turf with possibly the strongest release on the label to date as they unveil their ‘Senderturm’ EP, welcoming Paranoid London member and electro-favourite Johnny Aux on remix duties. 

Opening cut ‘Zoot Module’ welcomes a moody, low-slung slab of electro with haunting riffs and eerie synth lines which hold your sonic gaze front and centre, whilst title production ‘Sendeturm’, named after the lookout tower above the Love International site, takes listeners on a dreamy beat-less ride through melancholic tones and showcases an ode to a summer lost in place of beauty. 

On the flip, Johnny Aux’s interpretation of ‘Zoot Module’ welcomes his signature rough and raw dirtbox sound which buries its way under your skin to reveal a pacey, true body mover, before closing proceedings via the blissful and rich ‘Thru The Shutters’ – a production imagined as the final track in the early hours of a Sunday morning dancefloor and a hypnotic closer that shapes up proceedings in emphatic fashion.
