Convention of Love

Plaisir de France is well known for his remixes and collaborations with the best of the new French pop scene. He has worked with everyone from Regina Demina and Bertrand Belin to Arnold Turboust and his debut album from 2021 featured 27 collaborations that explored everything from club sounds to introspective home listening, dark grooves to happy house. Now the pleasure of the album is extended with 17 remixes, four of which are teased here.

First up is dark disco mainstay Damon Jee with a pure dance floor hit that is explosive and mechanical. His take on 'Serpent' is the sound of an infernal machine that goes into overdrive as it powers on in a rugged but compelling fashion.

Legendary innovator Tim Paris then steps up with his signature and singular electro-rock sound on his version of 'Cogne Mon Coeur.' It has a melancholic mood and bittersweet sense of nostalgia that slowly lifts you up as the power of the heady guitar chords and plaintive keys make their mark.

The brilliant Badknife remixes 'Sur La Piste' and brings a 2 am atmosphere where black leather, distorted drums and 80s sounds make for a menacing and uncompromising groove. It is an infernal sound that leads to both physical and mental abandon.

Finally, Polocorp is one half of Polo and Pan and he remixes 'Dans Toutes les Chansons d'Amour' with the club mind in. He layers in deep, hypnotic bass to make for an energetic cut that is ready to attack both body and mind.

This is a vibrant collection of characterful club sounds. The Tim Paris remix will be available 23rd September, the Polocorp remix on 7th October and the remaining two remixes from Badknife and Damon Jee will be released with the album on 21st October.

The water was powerful and vivid, each burst crashed against the shore with distinct force. After the hundredth wave came the pouring rain and a rogue breeze from the north. The storm had finally arrived. The television had warned that the weather would be fierce and dangerous, that they must stay indoors and not venture outside for the sake of their own wellbeing. Still one or two brave souls stood alongside the boulevard, watching as the apocalypse hit. This was to be the end of the world they'd said, at least for now. 

Rhode & Brown's 'Wave 100' EP was a highlight of last year, deep with a homage to the classic era of Italian dream house. Now they have curated a number of heavy hitting remixes of the EP featuring Bell Towers, C.K., Mr. Ho and Bostro Pesopeo. A highly recommended package.

Alex "Kiwi" Warren's passion for music has been a fire that has long burned within. With acclaimed releases on Disco Halal, Optimo, Moda Black and others, Kiwi's work has earned him a wealth of support from some of the scenes biggest names such as Andrew Weatherall, DJ Harvey and Gerd Janson. He now joins Edinburgh's Paradise Palms for the latest instalment of their highly regarded 7'' series which has previously seen groovy, off-beat offerings from Tom Blip and Justin Robertson.  
‘’You Want Her Too’’ is a playful, low slung stomper featuring a slowed-down House beat, pads and a catchy oddball chant from Warren himself. ‘’Peeling Oranges’’ ups the NRG and uses an Italo-strength arpeggiated bass-line to great effect, result in a peak time electronic Disco smash. Both tracks feature alternative 7'' and digital mixes.

Parisian party-starters Les Yeux Orange have served up some of the edit scene's most sensational reworks of recent times. They're at it again on their latest EP, which is hotter than a car bonnet after a day in the baking sun. Opener "Africa", is a thrusting mid-1980's affair that smothers a throbbing, arpeggio-driven groove in breathy synth-flute motifs, ricocheting drum machine hits and choice vocal cuts. They continue on a similar vein on "Samurai", a bustling re-edit of a mid 1980's French tune that's as Balearic as hanging out at Amnesia while wearing paisley shirts and baggy dungarees. Best of all though is "Midnight", a deliciously camp and sleazy affair rich in dirty arpeggio bass, over-the-top synth motifs and gravel-voiced male spoken word vocals.

PREMIERE : Les Yeux Orange - Samurai (Good Plus 005)

The Amsterdam-based Filament crew have been contributing to the city's left-of-center electronic scene for quite some time now, enriching nights with regular soirées – where guests range from Maurice Fulton to Paramida –, hosting livestream events or playing one of their multi-flavoured DJ sets across town. Distributed by Bordello A Parigi, their newly-founded record label sets out to tell the sonic story through every stage of an event; a tune for every chapter from the lingering suspense and early haze of doors-open to the wind-up power-hour grand hoorah.

Next to the Filament trio making their production debut, the EP features tracks by Monty, Møzaika and Hysteric - who delivers a heavy-hitting Italo cut, with big stabs, drawn-out chords and a relentless arpeggio.

She was beautiful, elegant and charming. She moved across the room with grace and caught the attention of wandering eyes who watched onwards from beside the pool. She sipped from a tall drink as the wind blew softly in the midst of what was a warm summer afternoon. Out here in the countryside, the world was peaceful and innocent. The air was clean and pure, the people kind and good. This was the land of Baila, a sun kissed tropical paradise beneath blue skies. 

Pitto is set to release a new EP via Heist Recordings. A euphoric, driven, dance floor focussed EP with energy and promise. It's reminiscent of late nights and warm climates.
