lovetempo is the brainchild of Mattie Safer - singer and bassist for Poolside and The Rapture - and since its inception, Safer has moved with imagination and creativity, fusing saudade sentimentality and jazz-funk excursions, with modern dancefloor sensibilities. Through body, soul, and basslines lovetempo explores the triumphs and travails of the heart. His debut was released on Razor-N-Tape to great acclaim, and his recent single also on RNT, ‘But I Do’ - a collaboration with producer Dougie Stu of Brijean - stole hearts and ears this summer. Gilles Peterson was ‘raving’ about it on 6 Music and WWFM!
Returning with ‘Maybe In Another Life’, a slow-burn disco cut built around soaring strings, a relentless groove, and a question about what happens when the right people fall in love at the wrong time.  “Sometimes you meet someone and feel that electric jolt that happens when two kindred souls connect, but for whatever reason the circumstances of your lives don’t line up. What can you do but move on and in the words of Erykah Badu, say I guess I’ll see you next lifetime ”.
‘Maybe In Another Life’ is the perfect track for Saturday night warmups and Sunday morning listening sessions alike. The original is paired with a floor-friendly remix from feel-good disco producer Bosq, whose remixes and original productions have delighted dancers and received strong support from GP, Folamour and Kerri Chandler no less.

The multi format label run by Filippo MSM (of Metropolitan Soul Museum) is back with its 7th release overall, this time on wax. This new collection continues to show Filippo’s predilection for music with non straight forward drum patterns and moody melodies.

Volume Three is a well thought mix of styles, spanning to and from two Trance oriented tracks from Rambal Cochet and The Mesmerist through the broken techno of Doc Sleep, Jack Bags’s all analogue Acid House track, The Jaffa Kid’s uncompromising Drexcian’s Electro and Undsidedly dreamy’s own take on the genre.

Star Creature is a label and artist collective based in Chicago, founded by Tim Zawada in 2015. Their wide-ranging catalog is a constant conversation between Windy City DJ booths, record shops and dancefloors and the global community that is hungry for that ‘Taste of Chicago’. Drawing on sun kissed synthesizer grooves, languid nu-disco and hazy pop for inspiration, he serves up plush, symphonic synth tapestries dripping with good vibes and accomplished musicality.
Here Star Creature and AVOP continue their fruitful partnership with another massive 12" - the follow up to the largely instrumental Fusion To Illusion LP - which takes us back to the Nu-Balearic Deep House Boogie RnB zone that this duo does so perfectly well. Cool Sounding, no cheese, futuristic yet retro, AVOP taps up collaborators Sykes and Stacie G for prime-time casual lounge soft-core vocal vibes. Especial welcomes new artist DJ 1985 to the label. As so often, the idea of pushing new music has been the raison d'etre of the past decade. An EP of a love for Acid, from the breaks anthem of the title We Trippin’ to exploring the ethereal and even mind-melting Ambient House and Balearic of how the Roland TB-303 has become a fundamental element in the history of electronic music.

Soviet born; Belgrade exile Stanislav is DJ 1985. A man of many monikers, came to House later, originally progressing from Breaks, Hardcore and onto Drum and Bass as DJ Saint Man, a Mixmaster in the truest sense, switching it up to include Ghetto House and Booty, DJing led to producing, finally seeing DJ 1985 emerged to encompass Acid, Bleep, Breakbeat, Chicago and beyond.

A DJ supreme from the old school – check his Boiler Room mix for live vinyl dexterity – his productions nod to Aphex Twin and the Rephlex / UK lineage, the Techno. Electro of masters Underground Resistance and Drexciya and on to Italo, Italian House and early 90s New Jersey and New York’s golden period and of course the masters Kraftwerk, all influence the sounds of this debut EP.

Starting as 808 and 909 Electro and Techno jams, all the tracks are recorded live, MPC, synth and drum machines, no computers involved. We Trippin’ is built around the “Think” break, with trippy 303 line, some 808, synths and off we go “we trippin”.

Dolphin and Sirens was inspired by the Boka Bay dolphins of Montenegro, near where the recording was made. A flotation bath of warm dreamy acid beats and aquatic found sound, fast, shifting breaks, the Adriatic Sea of Croatia and beyond beckoning.

Catland’s title is a nod to Stanislav’s love of all the feline, but the breaks’n’303 cut is an endlessly uplifting spark, celestial, a cosmic evolutionary odyssey.

DJ 1985 completes his debut EP with the aptly titled The Last One. Spherular, mysterious, this rise of spatial breaks is a reawakening of symbolic music that is touched by both East and West. Stanislav’s music intersects, trans-national, almost spiritual and psychedelic. Live jamming, more hearted, the snap electro percussion, dream-laden pads are twinned with an ethereal otherness via the endless possibilities of the TB-303.

Donald’s house and DJ Chrysalis give the UK’s Not An Animal Records the intercontinental treatment with a four track transpacific delivery of psyche-laden progressive house music melded with the sleazy stylistics we have come to expect and love from NAA releases, the outcome is a cohesive late-night package who’s sound is exceptionally current whilst somehow remaining thoughtfully reminiscent. Title track Pound Bend leads in with a breakbeat whilst the scene is set by layers of proggy synth patterns before descending into a powerfully dark, driving bassline.

Apiento remix of the title track takes a more introspective approach, stripping the package back to a reprogrammed bass groove, infectiously enlivened by an earworm synth loop that is likely to stay with you for eternity. 

A Curious Warmth delivers a bassline that ploughs through a soundscape of delicately programmed drum patterns layered with pads and new-age trance synths. A scattering of housey breaks and pads reinvigorate the track in the latter half. Tingler Ring brings things down to a slower burn as the bassline is left to drive the track, accented by a haunting of delay laden stabs whilst acid synths sit at the forefront to take the EP to its close.

The main track has a lot of different influences: 90’s House, Trancy, Dreamy with a rolling groove that can make big damages on the dancefloor.
“Utopia Tecnica” is a tribal joint with emotional pads and acid arpeggiators that make this track suitable for every situation: from the warm up in a dark club till a daytime party on the beach.

“Yoshito Loop” is the classic example of what I call dirty and raw!
The bassline when kicks in slaps hard in your face; the rest is a fat groove and some nice dreamy synths that can cook something really hot for the dancers.
