Burger Steak is back with his second ever release for us. The BS-Style can be best described as a suspenseful blend of slowed down DnB, Electro and jazzy early 70s movie soundtracks. Krypton8 is the darker tune here with Sci-fi pads and mysterious bleeps and noises. Krypton87 almost has a song structure with distorted lyrics on top (if you can make out what they say, the drinks are on us), mandolin (sic!), brass instruments and flutes and its overall vibe remind us a bit of early Yello recordings. We hope you enjoy these two beautiful pieces as much as we do.

With over 2 years in the making, the debut of Luis Leon on Nie Wieder Schlafen feels like a long overdue salvation. The highly explorative mind of Luis (Chapter 24, Kindisch, L'enfant terrible, Prosa Verso) has always fascinated us - and while the right moment has taken it's time, his sound was always admired in some shape and form. At last, we were finally able to capture his vision in our framework, which allowed his sound to prosper in new ways. With incredible patience and careful selection throughout the last years of communication, Luis Leon's debut comes with the name of "My Ears Have Tears". The expansive EP holds 5 tracks, including a non-stop adventure with 3 deep and unforgiving progressive stories, gently held together in between 2 ambience projects, the later of them in collaboration with new and returning NWS talent Haider Uppal.

From the main title track to the fast and rhythmic patterns of "It Won't Be Long", Luis captures an array of experimental grooves, which do not shy away from breaking boundaries and mixing various influences of his own. Filled with textures, vocal inputs and heavy dancefloor patterns, the release holds true to the sound of Nie Wieder Schlafen, while moving on to explore different sides of the atmospherical world of electronic music.

"My Ears Have Tears" strikes with a cinematic and pulsating bassline synth that sets an eerie tone for the production to move within. Transforming and almost liquid pads, filter through the mix and create broad soundscapes, that layer above the bassline, that is further supported by very wet shaker patterns and muffled texture compositions.

The ideas of hypnotic base rhythms and long drifting sounds do extend to the next track called "Take the Gun". Wunderous vox-like pads open and close in a breathing-like sense, while a ruthless and quick bass/kick pattern fills out the low end space, to build some heavy momentum. Long-lasting, almost noisy spaces fill the tension within the groove, while the fading but long one note pads decay in the abyss with subtle but effective glides. It invokes a mysterious space that is explored with excitement.

The core dance tracks are finished up by a tempo-rising final production, which pulls the concept of the release through an ecstatic state and intensifies all described ideas to eleven. The ambiences supported by snappy hit patterns prepare the listener to buckle up for a quicker experience, that holds true to Luis' unforgiving rhythmic bombardment, that works so well in an ambience filled space. Almost goofy drum patterns put into such a quick state, are liquified through the countless atmospheres, which Luis layers on top of each other and seasons the whole production with textures and influences from his love of japanese anime. While the most experimental track of them all, we believe "It Won't Be Long (To Dance With You)" shows the most of Luis' character and what he is inspired by. The main titles of the track are blessed by the release introducing "Understanding of Re" and the EP conclusion "Des Magiciens" (in collaboration with Haider Uppal), which both play a huge role in setting the framework of this whole extended play. The experience of going through the whole release does alter the experience of all these tracks, especially opening up the listeners for the final track, that might bring so much more joy, when understood in its full concept.

Fresh from the Dutch powerhouse label, Something Happening Somewhere is Utrecht based, DJ and producer Luna Ludmila’s dub mix of Maan. Our premiere for today, and a very deepchord-esque, Mike Schommer sounding one at that. Providing an alternative take for the spoken word of Shari Klein. Drawing on the verbal philosophical wanderings as a stark contrast to the dubbed out base. Rounding out the remaining remixes are SoHaSo head, Nuno Dos Santos, Patrice Baumel, and Luca dell'Orso and the release will be out on the 4th of October.

The ‘Emergence’ series was the first fully-fledged project of Bella Ursa's head honcho Letherique, aimed at experimenting with the boundaries of his many influences – no matter if its techno, disco, electro, or ambient. It helped forge his identity through much trial and error and ultimately led to the creation of the Bella Ursa imprint.

As now is the time to finally move forward in peace, we thought it would be nice to release a mixtape compiling all these early works, along with a few extra and unreleased tracks. To make this collection complete, he entrusted many of his friends met over the years with each producing a remix of their choice. Harnessing the power from a multitude of different scenes, ‘Emergence Remixed’ offers a brand-new journey into uncharted horizons, where Morodesque disco meets mind-altering electro-jazz and cinematic delights reminiscent of Lalo Schifrin’s soundtracks.
It will be released digitally on all platforms, but also on a cassette inside a beautiful smoked UV printed case, which assembles with the first part of the collection.

Phase 1 of the Bella Ursa mothership is now complete.

Next up in our Premiere series we have Running Back head honcho Gerd Janson remixing Neapolitan producer Partenope, who takes a strong influence from the likes of Underground Resistance, for a deep cut on the Neapolis label. 

Partenope certainly wears a big Underground Resistance influence on his sleeve in the case of 'Odysseia' - it's even mentioned in the press release, and we're not going to argue either.   But it's no bad thing, especially as it's a general love of the soulful, uplifting, musical end of the techno scale rather than a creative plunder of any UR track in particular.  The label has pulled out the big guns with a Gerd Janson remix to accompany it too, and Janson certainly delivers with his warm production bringing out the best via three way acid trance techno hybrid.

Exclusive: Charles Webster - I Wonder Why (Charles Webster's 'Still Wondering' Mix)

Two years after the release of Charles Webster's album Decision Time, which was praised equally by critics and musicians, the British artist delivers three new mixes for one of the album's stand-out tracks I Wonder Why. Besides Atjazz taking on remix duties, and a musical approach from Nowism, Charles himself reworked the track to give it an even darker note accentuating the track's message by going without a continuous bass line and emphasizing on sounds, which perfectly go with the spoken vocals. Webster proves once again that you can create House music without its ordinary features and basically approves what the press already said: "There's almost no House music here, though it still runs as a hidden pulse through the record."

The Hivern split series was born as a platform for club-ready tracks that don’t require a broader sonic context to express themselves. It’s also as a way of generating an unplanned dialogue between artists in the label’s orbit, connecting the dots amid them in spontaneous and almost unconscious ways. The third instalment of the series brings together Beesmunt Soundsystem and Cooper Saver. Their two tracks share a similar approach, deconstructing ethereal sounds over dark rhythmic foundations to reach the same kind of narcotic transcendence. The visual concept of the series has been developed by London-based design studio DR.ME

Walk On Water

Release number twenty-four on San Francisco’s Manjumasi sees the return of Indian producer Vridian to the label. In keeping with the genre-defying style of 2019’s Silverfish EP, the Strange Statistics EP offers a mesmerizing combination of electronic sounds. Lead track “Ebb & Flow” kicks things off at a high tempo but with a very deep half-time breakbeat groove. Airy textures and arpeggios weave their way around energetic bass stabs. Next up is title track “Strange Statistics,” which showcases a more intricate and detailed rhythmic foundation, over which rich pads and staccato synths set a tone of mystery and intrigue. Finally, the third original “Gabacho” is a more dancefloor-focused 4/4 groove. Hypnotic bell-like melodies floating over an irresistible dark and stabby bass groove - this is most definitely one for the late nights.

On remixes, first up is Cologne’s Tim Engelhardt. Tim is no stranger to Manjumasi, having collaborated with atish on “Bullfrog” in 2018. On this EP, he turns in a beautifully contemplative remix of “Ebb & Flow.” A strong bass-driven melodic riff that pushes and pulls tension right through the track in counterpoint to gentle lush melodies up top, very much evoking the title itself. Rounding out the package, Georgian producer Gacha Bakradze offers a stunning remix of “Strange Statistics,” perfectly balancing turn-of-the-millennium breakbeat nostalgia with cutting-edge modern sound design. The combination evokes a truly otherworldly heady and emotional sonic journey.
