A heady fusion of rock’s steely drive, cosmic trance, wiggy acid basslines and cavernous dub, Talk is at once rooted in the turn of the millennium while sounding utterly outside of space and time. A combination of coveted un- and self-released material, the record features a remix, specially commissioned by Betonska, from Naone.
Jin Won Lee (이진원), otherwise known as Gazaebal, is a Korean producer and DJ whose sensual, spacious approach to electronica is rooted in his background as a sound engineer. Having begun his career in New York, in recording studios working with the likes of the Wu-Tang Clan and Janet Jackson, his expansive creative repertoire further includes media art and chart-topping K-pop. A member of Tacit Group, a collective creating algorithmic and audiovisual performances, Gazaebal is presently best known for ambient-adjacent soundscapes, yet in the halcyon late 1990s and early 2000s, he synergised a uniquely potent take on club music.
The titular track was initially released in 1999 on the independent imprint dmstrax, established by Gazaebal’s agent and wife, Nine. First appearing on techno@kr, a compilation CD dedicated to Korean electronic musicians, ‘Talk’ is an hybrid, electro-punk anthem. Colliding sung-screeched Korean lyrics with heavy breakbeat, its abrasive textures are delivered with ultra-slick orchestration. Halfway through, the jittery breaks collapse, reprised by momentous four-to-the-floor. It’s this dichotomy between poise and power that characterises the record as Gazaebal flexes his ear for intricate melodies and rocketing build.
Composed alongside Big Hit Productions founder and BTS songwriter Mr. "Hitman" Bang, the original version of 'And So On' was not available for re-release due to licensing difficulties. But thankfully the multitrack was well preserved. Utilising these components, Nawon Ha (AKA Korean-but-Netherlands-based artist Naone) re-imagines the song for Betonska. Remixed with her own hypnotic vocals, she inflects the track with mesmerising, multi-layered dimensions; a fractal, downtempo trance number that connects two generations of underground electronic musicians from South Korea.
From the pulverising kickdrum of ‘Gilda’ to ‘Spiral's acidic dub fuzz, Talk moves between sharp crests, twists, and turns, enveloping driving 4/4 and shuffling half-time. Presented as a mix-friendly mini-album, the carefully selected 6 tracks are ideally tailored to DJ-level quality and loudness. As much suited to the psychedelic rave scene of yesteryear as they are to contemporary dancefloors, Gazaebal’s productions are defined by his idiosyncrasies. Melding the sheen of tight-production with a flagrant DIY spirit, his music assuages the high-commercialism of the 2000s, resulting in a sound that’s as definitely punchy as it is intoxicatingly precise.

No stranger to the label having assumed mastering duties across several releases, Behrang Mohammadi touches down for his official Warning debut. It’s a deadly one-two punch as the Inkonst resident conjures DIY spirits on a typically idiosyncratic lathe cut 12", complete with a remix from OG Salon Des Amateurs resident Philipp Otterbach.

Original cut ‘Tears Only Fall From The Right Eye’ recalls Dutch darkwave innovator Das Ding at his strangest. Eerie retro-futurism awash in a sea of spatially-aware dub FX, Mohammadi summons his more explorative side with some hauntingly sparse, smudged. electro.

But where the original deployed dub sirens and swathes of reverb to mesmeric effect, Otterbach leans fully into his dubbiest inclinations. It’s the axis point where break-neck IDM pointillism, industrial heft and pure dread bassweight collide. Bone-rattling stuff.

A record with layers of intelligence and emotional synth work-outs. The sounds range from a melancholic A-side, touching on wave with more disturbed vocals on the B-side, all crafted with a woven spine of electro with serious pulsing basslines. Organised and articulated madness tracks for the club.

Greece’s B2 Recordings welcomes the legendary Italian produce DJ Rocca to join forces with Greece’s Lex this February for their collaborative ‘Solid Street’ EP.
DJ Rocca has been an active and widely respected figure in the contemporary Disco and House scene for decades now with releases on the likes of Gomma, Soul Clap Records, Faze Action and Claremont 56. Here he pairs up with the Athens, Greece based producer and DJ Alex Andrikopoulos aka Lex, a key figure in the city's underground electronic music scene, founding the now defunct Radical Soundz record store, running numerous events
in the country and also running the imprint, Quantinzed Music.
‘Solid Street’ kicks off the EP and sees the pair deliver an expectedly funky infusion of organic percussion, psychedelia tinged guitar licks, a bouncy bass line, intricately unfurling
synthesizer jams and jazzy flute work all crafted with a dynamic and ever unfolding aesthetic. ‘Solar System’ follows and as the name would suggest employs a spaced out, cosmic feel and an eighties leaning influence through an amalgamation of choppy bass stabs, bubbling arpeggios, twitchy resonant synths and cinematic leads, underpinned by a loose rhythmic flow.
‘Rose Tree’ then rounds out the release on a more classic lounge house tip, employing fluttering wind instruments, wandering jazzy bass grooves intertwined with free flowing mood like synth licks and the signature natural percussive drive.ß

The interesting Barcelona/Berlin-based label MM Discos, expertly managed by Da Silva & DJ Katah also known as the duo Moon&Mann, adds another chapter to its compelling story: “Night Runner”, the brand-new endeavour of the in-house collective Statues, hits the shelves of your favourite retailer before the official end of the European winter packed with five made-with-love beautiful authorial gems.

Hailing from London, Statues is fronted by Bradley Lucke and Mark Crooks and occasionally joined by a wide range of artists for spot-on collaborations. For those not familiar with their work, we recommend a quick stroll through their previous appearances on Claremont 56, eclectics, Is It Balearic…?, and MM Discos itself.

Premiered here, the opening theme of the EP is the result of the combination of bouncing percussive elements, melodic synth riffs, and a throbbing bassline. The enchanting vocals by Mochudi are the icing on the cake. A true cosmic Balearic trip infused with shards of psychedelic and Kraut elements, showcasing the talent of the team in bringing seamlessly together some of their most important influences.
