Blur Records returns to present the debut of German DJ and producer - Max Caesar and his three-track EP entitled "Habitual House".

Starting his musical career in Erfurt, he now resides in Leipzig and is a core member of Future Fabrik, a forward-looking mixed-media project set to make waves with their digital artist services.

Always applying himself fully to the pursuit of classic house sounds, be it 909 drums, slightly detuned string samples or dusty old pianos, the search for a classic but still modern approach to house is the focus of his journey, having released his first tracks with Basement Discos followed by this release at Blur Records.

The first track entitled "Habitual House", is a refined and soulful organic house composition, with rolling pacey drums, grooving bassline and intricate piano techniques showcasing the serious approach by the versatile producer.

Next is "Don't You Worry", a classic 90's based irresistible track, featuring a jacked-up vocal, intricate soundscapes, and rich textures, which build up with slithering strings in the background, delivering it all in a powerful drop.

Closing up the EP is "Right Now", a funky fuelled cut with lively percussive drums, housy vocal bits and rattling rims in the background. It is an ever-evolving and shuffling beat that closes out with a beautifully executed acid 303 synth, revealing a rich and resonant three-track EP.

Darryl is a crazy mysterious person. From what I know, he grew up alone with his mother without being much in contact with the rest of the world. His father's music record collection was the only connection with the other cultures and the world. Somehow he got a weird idea in his early childhood that this record collection contained all the music that had been ever created. He persuaded himself that the only way to make new music is to combine bits and pieces from that collection together. So he kept listening to those records and after a while, he was able to recollect their parts and combine them in his head — thus creating new music from what was already there. My role in this process is to communicate with Darryl and transfer his ideas into reality".

'New York imprint Onysia Records welcomes Akufen onto its roster with his ‘We Shall Not Surrender’ EP.

Marc Leclair, better known to most as Akufen has developed somewhat of a cult following over the past two decades, racking up releases on the likes of Zip’s Perlon, Revolver Recordings and Mike Shannon’s Haunt with his unique twist on a stripped- back, sample heavy electronic style. Here we see him delivering his latest works via Onysia Records, the label of New Yorker J Gabriel.

Leading on the EP is ‘Crackerz and PBJ’, embracing the classic Akufen style Leclair delivers an amalgamation of chopped and eschewed samples, 8-bit computer game style melodies and intricately crafted percussion. ‘Touch It’ follows next, once again employing a dynamic selection of funk samples, panning, chopping and cutting in and out of the composition while a wandering jazzy bass line and organic drums further fuel the dance floor drive.

‘Cop Porn and Pop Corn’ kicks off the flip-side next, bringing crunchy drums, gritty bass stabs and airy chords into the forefront alongside skippy, soulful vocal cuts and more funk-infused melodies. Title-track ‘We Shall Not Surrender’ then rounds out the release, embracing more classic house tropes via a cinematic piano hook and bright strings, robust 4/4 drums and acid bass tones.'
