Multifaceted producer Mogwaa is not a stranger anymore, awarded in 2021 with best electronic album of the year in South Korea, his versatility and skills have found a place in labels as "Klasse Records", "Spring Theory" or Sound Metaphors' "Bless You" among others.

"Floppy Computer" is the newest set of future-gazing grooves from Periodica Records and label partner Raffaele "Whodamanny" Arcella rescuing and restoring forgotten tape compositions from a legendary Italian pop producer using the pseudonym Nico Mecca. Produced during the years 1979-1985 using cutting edge home recording techniques and the latest synthesizer. The productions across the works are incredibly forward-thinking for that time with inspirations and track titles refering to hypermodern tech and a proto-cyberpunk soundworld and progressive rock and experimental electronic music that features novel combinations of mediterranean boogie, robotic funk, sci-fi balearic, hypnagogic pop and astrotribal jazz. The discovery of the 'Floppy Computer' project is dictated by destiny and a strong cosmic interference as not only were these tracks produced by Mecca during his 30s, they were discovered 30 years later by Raffaele Whodamanny, who is also in his 30s - facts that give the project a mystical and numerological significance, since this number and age represent a divine midpoint between youthful enthusiasm and the wisdom of experience.

Misha Sultan - Translucence (PTNC008)

Misha Sultan offers a twin set of deeply mystic shapeshifters for his outing on Patience, entitled Translucence. On both sides Sultan mines the depths of the mystery to summon two unique cuts both earthly in origin but stirring with an undeniably cosmic energy. Incorporating sounds arising from the Far East of his Russian origins, Sultan displays an affection for the esoteric and a mastery of instrumentation that, combined with a deft grasp of contemporary production, makes for a lush, beguiling trip out of time.

Not Every Lake Dreams Of Being A Magic Swamp is an invitation to contemplation, building off a central, reverbed guitar loop and droning synth pads before a serene flute floats over gently lilting bells and sampled chants. The track breaks down completely into an almost raga before rebuilding as a heavily percussive flute and organ jam, a lost tape from Between or Popul Vuh at their most ceremonial.

On the B side, When Barong Met The Nordic Curandero He Was Surprised takes the already celestial sound of the gamelan further into space. With seismic drum hits, insistent flutes and sinister synths pushing the increasingly frenetic gamelan patterns further and further out, they eventually combust and reenter earths atmosphere in the shape of a jammy, punky dub track.

The two tracks of Translucence make for a complementary duo of healing, exploratory music, a thrilling chapter in Misha Sultan’s work and a most welcome addition to the Patience catalogue.

Misha Sultan is from Siberia and has previously released solo music on Hair Del, Hive Mind, DIG and Echotourist. A prolific collaborator and live musician, he’s also producing, mixing and mastering music for other artists. He’s currently based outside of Russia.

in this synthetic age where there hardly remain clear delineations between nature&technology, the moods chosen here were inspired by two ideas: 1) a flat ontology of digital objects at different magnitudes and 2) a recursive nourishing of the system, which i refer to here as gardening.  following yuk hui's furthering of simondon's philosophy of technics, users must adapt to the rhythm of the system of digital objects; yet, according to hui this system, being digital, is no longer one of cultural memory – as that of technical objects – but of future orientation (tertiary protention).  a looming question is what sort of problems does adapting to these rhythms produce, such as the increasing prediction and anticipation by digital systems.  but moreover, and of relevance here, how ought we to approach an organization of digital objects for a sustainable open future, that is, how might we tend to a productive garden of digital objects.  i hope that this mix finds listeners reflective of their own relations to digital objects, the rhythmic networks they may find themselves in, and that we may all design healthy algorhythmic lives. hope you enjoy.
