'Aggelos first approached Lurid Music with the idea for this project a few months ago. We agreed on one condition, that all proceeds be donated to refugee causes, like we did with his Black Sea EP which supported the Syrian refugee crisis. When Russia invaded Ukraine, we decided our focus had to be helping the Ukrainian refugees who were forced to leave their homes in search of safe havens abroad.

We discussed this with most contributors to the project and the consensus was that donations should strictly go to humanitarian groups and not any armament funds. There were also some thoughts about helping conflict-affected peoples in other parts of the world but we decided it was too much to tackle for a relatively small project like this one.

Therefore, donations stemming from the sales of this release will be distributed to the following humanitarian groups currently active in Ukraine or neighboring countries welcoming refugees:

This illustration is an homage to Maria Prymachenko’s “May That Nuclear War be Cursed!”, which also inspired the title of this release. Having featured on the Riviera Disco compilation series, it’s time that Donald Dust returns to Bordello. This time the Scottish artist is back with a five-track EP in the form of Nausea. Bending ideas and styles, the Edinburgh producer serves a sample-strewn, italo-infected grenade. Hoarse vocals sully clean chords and percussion as arpeggiators grind and growl. Drum patterns stagger and stumble in the bleary-eyed house-streaked “Sick Your Own Mix” of the original. The listener is never sure where Mr Dust will take them, with influences and surprises coming in equal measure. “Noise in the Stairwell” is an electro stalker, bolts juttering and jangling in this work of vocoder-scented giallo funk. The styles continue to be melted into new sound forms on the flip with two versions of Jupiter Jack. The “Groove Mix” takes the staccato stabs of new beat and supercharges them with punishing percussion and a good helping of dancefloor devilment. Leading us into the wee hours of the after, the “Jupiter Mix” leans on the darker tones and rusted-up rhythms for a final body jack before the realisation that work starts in eight hours.

Contrafact is a sublabel of Deeptrax Records. Based in The Netherlands, Deeptrax is also a store, all founded by Chris Roorda in 2004. Focusing on the deeper side of electronica, and eclectic leftfield dance jams, exploring those spaces between deeper house and techno, with hints from the past, and visions of the future. Now the label welcomes Dutch icon and studio wizard, Orlando Voorn, who brings a fresh new sound with a double vinyl album entitled ‘The Master 2’, a collection of laid-back jazzy heaters with Orlando’s trademark sci-fi touch, stamped all over it.
 
Orlando Voorn’s career kicked off in the 80s and he has been widely recognised as a genius.  Voorn spent years living in Detroit working with the like of Juan Atkins and Metroplex Records, and with the mighty
Kevin Saunderson on KMS. Although he has made music under many monikers and has delivered releases in varying styles, he is mostly known for his Detroit tinged, deep house and techno vibes.
 
On this long player we see Orlando delivering an album that flips the switch, moving through different shades of jazzy house, soulful funk, but still very much in the Detroit zone. It’s an infectious mix of debonair soul and hi-tech jazz injected with Voorn’s versatile palette of dynamics, next-level machine talk, and otherworldly funk. Staying true to the velveteen house vibrations that’ve been the driving force to his seminal records through nearly three decades of mythology, Voorn drops a textbook sample of his lush and unhindered vision for innovative and soul inspiring music. This album rolls up its sleeves and pulls out a potent artillery of foot shuffling jazzy house beats, intricate drum work, and some bleached-out synths that will wash away all those February winter blues.
