Bytes are super excited to announce the reissue of the killer 1990s electro EPs by SEM (aka Damon Baxter, who would go on to record as Deadly Avenger). The original 12”s have been out of print since they were released on J Saul Kane’s Electron Industries imprint in 1995 (Phox EP) and 1996 (The Demon EP). They have never been available digitally. With the original masters M.I.A., the tracks have been lovingly remastered from vinyl by Keith Tenniswood, who as part of Two Lone Swordsmen (alongside the late Andrew Weatherall), knows a thing or two about producing top-notch electro music. Pienių Matas is an alter ego for ½ of beloved brothers duo Deserted Island. Refreshing breaks and positive melancholy is what makes this EP so special to release on Skalbiankė. We’re always aiming for quality vibes and Matas manages to deliver on every occasion he gets a chance to.

Chauffeur is his fresh work. It appears as an invitation for a ride where he allows us to listen to his explorations through new sounds and rhythms. Novatory and sentimental, he clashed those two opposites and made it to one superb piece.

“Hello everyone, Radion here! I've never worked so hard to produce these two pieces of music. I must have done a good hundred versions of Crystal Cavern, not far for Discovery. I thought about abandoning them, but I finally settled on these two versions. Crystal Cavern is an important testimony for me to the complexity and distortion this piece went through (and how it affected me humanly). Discovery was just as complex, but here's a stripped-down yet organic electro version (well, I tried). The biggest challenge for me as a producer now is to make tracks that are much simpler, yet as lively as possible, a good balance between surprise and letting go.

I hope you'll get lost in this cavern too, enjoy the discovery! huhu”
