Classic Me has been producing off the radar for over a decade, and it’s with pride that LAN gives the German artist a spotlight for the first time.


‘Cycles’ is an eleven track exploration into the ways classical, house music and its adjacent genres play off one another. Unsurprisingly for an artist with experience playing the violin, the album leads both in tracklist and concept with cinematic strings, which then soar into groovy basslines and slouchy kicks.


Classic Me’s confidence in production is levelled by spontaneity in the recording process (sometimes casually recording from a tablet on the go). Mastered in Paris by engineer Marine Benabou, the result is an interesting balance between play and perfection: though many of the tracks hint at J Dilla or Moodyman with their suggestions of tape loops and sampling, the orchestration uses hyperreal acoustics to bring echoes of Daft Punk, millennial Chemical Brothers and French touch back into the mix. 


It’s this tying together of classical influences with dance music’s more classic elements - hip-hop melodies, deep house vocals, funk basslines and the brightness of disco - which make up the unique sound of Classic Me. Each track turns a different face of the prism toward the listener, weaving an album that is cinematic and wistful without losing sight of its groove.

Robin Flux is a German DJ/Producer, Artist and Dancer based in Copenhagen. Having always been fascinated by the early era of house music and underground dance culture of the 80s and 90s in the US, he reflects his love and appreciation for house culture in his productions and DJ sets while interweaving influences from Disco, Garage, Breakbeat and Techno. After years of DJing and curating events dedicated to house culture in Germany’s vibrant underground scenes, he has been eager to explore and connect with music, dance, and art scenes elsewhere in the world, playing a series of gigs in Southeast Asia, Europe and lately in New York, while releasing regularly on international record labels such as Miura Records.

Omar Santis makes his debut on Karakul with the four track EP ‘A T.D.L.D Joint’.

Karakul is a new label focusing on deeper House cuts from around the world. First up is Chilean born Stockholm dwelling Omar Santis.

Omar first came to our attention through his records on the Woodsmen & Lady Log label, the first of which was a split 12” with Niklas Andersson which he then followed up with his own EP titled simply ‘W&LL003’ a few months later. Two fantastic records featuring his low slung, immersive House production that caught Karakul’s ears immediately.

Omar tells us ‘A T.D.L.D Joint’ is an abbreviation of ‘Ta det lugnt daa’ meaning ‘Take it easy then yeah’ and on this 12” he certainly does, in the best possible way. It’s his most soulful record to date, building upon his detailed signature sound with perfectly placed vocals on ‘Stark Champagne’, melancholic Rhodes on ‘Lulu’s Jam’, tribal percussion and pads on ‘At The Shanzai Hotel’ and finally lowering the pace altogether for the emotional ender ‘Inward’.

Soreab presents his debut, self-released album, Muğla's Chronicles.

"I started working on this music project back in 2016, when I lived and worked in Turkey, in Bodrum (Muğla Province) for six months. Each track is informed by episodes that I personally went through while living in Turkey, like a diary of sounds and voices. During my stay there, I imagined myself as a child visiting Turkey for the first time, experiencing the everyday and learning new things for example how to play an instrument, like the Turkish Lute which is present in each track of the LP."

"I have let this project sit in a folder for some years until lockdown 2020 when in London it felt right to add something new to it, influences I didn’t have when I was in Turkey or simply to dive again into the Aegean Sea from the comfort of my home studio. Whilst keeping it true to its origins, I was able to turn and twist a Turkish Lute into something familiar to my present influences (UK Techno, Leftfield Bass, Dub, IDM, Jungle and especially Club/Rhythm focused Drums and Percussions) fast forward to 2022 and establishing a connection between these two worlds."

Shifting Gears aka Hoshina Anniversary returns to toucan sounds with ‘Sky Disco’.

Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, Hoshina Anniversary has previously appeared on ESP Institute, Musar Recordings, and Young Marco’s Safe Trip, fusing traditional Japanese instrumentation with House & Techno sensibilities across his productions. Returning to Brooklyn’s toucan sounds label under his Shifting Gears moniker following ‘Drum Nation’ in January, the DJ/producer delivers three addictive, crunchy house jams.
Leading the release, the title cut ‘Sky Disco’ sees pumping drums and unruly melodies interplaying with stark piano hits throughout. ‘Blue, Yellow, Red’ follows with freaked-out FX, rattling percussion, and eerie FX combining for a wonky club track, before ‘Mayfield’s Diner’ closes the release with a dose of euphoric house, as rubbery basslines, floating pads, and synth stabs ring out for the duration.
