Synth & Soda are DJ/producer Danilo Braca and musician/engineer Mario Gentili. Longtime musical conspirators since the early 2000's between Italy and NYC, and recent winners of the Beatport DJ Harvey Remix contest.
Following up to the EP by Synth & Soda - Unfinished Love Affair, The Sound of New York City is proud to present an exclusive package of remixes aimed straight for any dancefloor.
Danilo Braca’s remix of the opening track from the eponymous Synth & Soda debut EP strips down the original’s multiple layers of strings and shines the spotlight instead on rolling percussion breaks and an ostinato SH101 bass in a manic all-out dancefloor frontal assault. Half way through the song’s winding 10 plus minutes, a piano turns up and pulls out all stops, soloing and stabbing its way to oblivion, taking no shortcuts and no prisoners.

14.Dj City - Money Money

The latest Chubby! Records release is certain to be a highlight of 2021 with a who's who tracklist of some of the best names in house and techno. Chubby! spent a lot of time and effort over the past 18 months curating and collecting the type of quality that is worthy to be side by side on one release with so many fantastic names. Each artist seeming to out due each other, it's impossible to pick a favorite on this compilation let alone whether you like the original or remix version better. The double vinyl is laid out nicely with two tracks a side for a grand total of 8.

Aleqs Notal offers the first piece with a fantastic opener titled ' Planetary Insanity'. His ultra-smooth deep Detroit styled techno lays the foundation for what's to come. For remix duties, we are pleased to have the in-demand producer Life Recorder making his debut on the label. He turns the more streamlined version into a euphoric and optimistic dance floor gem.

Next, we move to the B side with 'Agonias' by the highly-touted Jose Rico. You can always expect some lively and lovely tribal business on a Jose Rico track and here is no exception. The melody is unique and classy and it stays right in the sweet spot to your enjoyment. We couldn't think of any producer better to compliment Jose Rico then the amazing Leonid.
He shoots for a more stripped-down version honing in on the chords and tribalness with great success. Deep is an understatement !

Pick up the 2nd vinyl from this double-pack and place the needle on side C for one of Australia's most respected artists, Ewan Jansen. 'Basilica' is late night groover of the pack. Perhaps the most house sounding here also, it rides a sublime Detroit-esque vibe that is undeniable on and off the dancefloor. Paired up for the remix is veteran producer Nail. He turns up the funk and tech notch to 11, creating an atmospheric escape into the stratosphere.

Flip over for the final side and here we have the man behind Planisphere who had one of the hottest reissues last year, David Swatten. He brings us the most laid-back jam of this compilation in 'Wave Energy'. Crystalized melodies chime off waves of house bliss in this super clean eargasm. Legendary techno artist John Beltran, is the final name to make an appearance with his more upbeat ‘Chicago’ version. It's hard to pick which we like better as John adds his beautiful forte style to this remix. The time of the day might be the deciding factor on which you play out as both are pure beauties. Either one ends the night on an amazing high.

True to their name, psychedelia is the dish of the day, with the duo serving up four tracks that match mind expanding electronics and analog instrumentation.

Infuso Giallo aka Philipp Carbotta originally hails from rural Western Germany, first cut his teeth in the music scene of nearby Cologne and conducts a host of activities in Berlin for a couple of years now – co-running the label Kame House, designing graphics and producing and playing leftfield electronic music. His debut LP Ocular Soda presents an intersection of these activities – self-released, self-designed, and of course self-produced. Even before the first synth chords and reverse atmospheres of the two-part opener 'Every Waking Hour' tickle the ear, it is the eye that is drawn to the bright, cut-out style cover art – itself made up of two eyes on the front and what seem to be their rough shapes or discarded counterparts on the back.
To stay within that metaphor, Infuso Giallo's music is indeed of a reflective and calm nature, taking cues from Berlin School, library, and New Age musics from roughly the 1970s to the 1990s – steadily repeating and slowly evolving ostinatos, lush digital pads, quirky filtered toplines and electronic percussion that mostly eschews four-four monotony in favor of much more subtle syncopations. Balearic bomb 'The Big Rip' with its big drums and acid bass turns the energy level up a notch while retaining the somnambulistic, lingering quality that makes Ocular Soda such a coherent listening experience – music on the sheath of waking and dreaming, both worlds and their inherent logics freely bleeding into each other. There are moments of great expanse, such as in 'Mole Gaze' – I couldn't help but see myself hovering somewhere in mid-air while the music unfolds as if on a great deserted plane below me. Maybe this is what it sounds like once the mole leaves his tunnels and takes in the sound of the world overground. 'Hello World', indeed, in its multitude of information to eye and ear, in its gently overwhelming quality. The title track 'Ocular Soda' closes the proceedings with a whimsical nod to 1970s botany-centered library music, its brooding chord sequence and sweet lead lines gradually fading in the distance. A fitting ending to an impressive LP of highly evocative, at times somber and at times blissfully naive pieces that leave me yearning for more.

Marco Passarani's discography stretches back over nearly three decades including long players on well-respected imprints like Peacefrog, Running Back and Offen Music. For his next release, which marks his sixth LP, he heads over to Aus to make his debut with The Wildlife Of The Quieter Ones. Once again flexing his dexterity at moving between genres and styles, the 16 tracks showcase his timeless sound: a cocktail of glimmering electro, techno, house and IDM.

Natural Element proudly presents the long-awaited album The Paradigm Shift by one of Amsterdam’s finest and most prolific producers, Kid Sublime. Following on from the 12” single ‘You Got Me Runnin’’ which dropped in the summer, this 8 track, double LP offering is a special piece of work crafted during the pandemic years and Turbulence recording sessions with maestros Beka Gochiashvili and Mishulino. The album showcases the evolution of Kid Sublime’s sound and the influence of London’s vibrant broken beat scene, with him having connected with some of the artists around the time of the passing of the legendary Phil Asher. It touches on house, bruk and even techno, with his signature soulful touch palpable across the whole record. Features include talented London artist Oliver Night, Sydney-based vocalist Natalie Slade and long time collaborator, flautist Han Litz, amongst others. The Paradigm Shift takes you on a deep sonic journey straight from the heart, celebrating love, connection, spirituality and human evolution. There’s introspective moments with the jazzy house drifter ‘The Awakening’ and the dubbed out bass of ‘Kingz’, as well as joyful moments such as the uplifting ‘Heaven’s Glory’ and the romantic ‘Stay Over’, which is as soulful as it gets. ‘Bring It Come’ brings some minimal bruk flavours reminiscent of Bugz in the Attic, and the title track takes things a bit darker with a club-ready roller. Sitting somewhere between the living room and the dancefloor, this album is sure to enliven the spirits of many a discerning listener and bring some much needed radiance and hope into people’s lives.
