Last week brought the welcome news Detlef Weinrich had opened up his archive of unreleased Tolouse Low Trax material spanning the past 10 years to Paris label Antinote for a trilogy of records. We noted this was coming at a time the former Kriedler band member was starting to get wider exposure for his own distinct brand of idiosyncratic dancefloor material; his Rushing Into Water 12" for local Düsseldorf label being among this year's best releases. A commission to remix Sano for the Colombian's incoming return to Cómeme is further evidence of this belated and well deserved rise for Tolouse Low Trax. There is of course a shared love of electronic music production at its most basic that ensures a Tolouse Low Trax appearance on Cómeme makes perfect sense, and you could argue that much of Weinrich's work sounds like a track from Matias Aguayo's label played at the wrong speed.

However, Weinrich's source material for his self-styled Tolouse Low Trax Interview Remix, Sano's "La Grúa" is much closer to the tempo he operates at. The first tangible material since his self-titled Sano LP some three years ago, Sebastian Hoyos toys around with a famous break on "La Grúa" at a pace that would perk the ears of Andrew Weatherall. On the Tolouse Low Trax remix, the sense of space is all the more apparent and finely complemented by some creeping vocal samples - stream it in full below.

And give it an eastern feel and Montcosmik takes take me to you leader and releases the dark beast hidden therein.

This record, and the full 2XLP that will follow it, are dedicated to and inspired by events in 2015 & 2016, which saw the spectre of global crisis come knocking at Europe’s doorstep. During this time, more than a million migrants and refugees fled their homes in the Middle East, Northern Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and other conflict ravaged areas in search of a better life. For many, hopes of a future for themselves and their families lay in continental Europe. While the reasons for such displacement, on a scale unseen in almost a century, are many, so are the reasons for Europe being seen as the ideal destination. The relative peace and calm of the continent and the prospect of building prosperous lives in Western Europe was enough to mobilize multitudes to embark on the treacherous journey to Europe. One of the most well-trodden paths on this journey was the Balkan route, a trail leading through Turkey, Greece, and the former Yugoslavia.. This route was not without its dangers, and the dreams of thousands upon thousands were dashed by impassible security fences and discordant EU politics, as one by one they were turned away at borders, or worse, forcibly returned to their countries of origin. Europa is the first single that represents the seed of discontent, from which the 2XLP grew. It was recorded during long jam sessions in Belgrade as the media spotlight started to dim. The city became the purgatorial destination for a large number of migrants, whose journeys had been cut short and this record reflects the atmosphere of disillusionment and uncertainty about the future, which descended on the Serbian capital.

Alvaro Cabana's Rotten City Records goes from strength to strength with artists like Justin Robertson and Timothy J Fairplay on their roster.  Their new EP " Rotten Citizens Vol​.​3 " with 10 rotten citizens on board which includes third outing debuts Tel Aviv resident Coobe, with his first release on Rotten City Records "Ashmadai". 
A slow mo melter reminiscent of fellow Israeli Compatriots, the Red Axes.  Live instrumentation dances with analogue synths, a spoken hook and a bit of saxophone thrown in for good measure. Madrid meets Tel Aviv in this wonky warmer which looks to be the beginning of a bright bright future for Mikey Horesh, AKA Coobe.

In  just  a  year  of  existence,  Chloé’s  Lumière  Noire  has  brought  emerging  artists  and  promising  newcomers  together  –  and  this  first  compilation  of  13  brand  new  tracks  expands  the  roster,  exposing  the  label’s  eclectic  vision  in  full  daylight.  When  Chloé  talks  about  her  label,  she  puts  forward  the  fundamental  values  that  informed  her  own  musical  journey,  her  trust  in  her  own  musical  taste  –  and,  of  course,  the  predominance  of  human  relationships:  “I  followed  my  bliss  and  only  commissioned  tracks  from  artists  that  I  respect  and  whose  music  I  love.  That  to  me  is  Lumière  Noire’s  musical  palette.”With  this  13-track,  unmixed  compilation,  Chloé  makes  a  case  for  a  label  aesthetic  that  is  based  in  open-mindedness.  Familiar,  elemental  Lumière  Noire  artists  are  represented,  as  are  new  faces,  producing  a  kind  of  group  photo  presaging  what’s  next  for  the  fledgling  label.  Lyon’s  Markus  Gibb  leads  the  track  listing  with  Kuru  with  a  deep  chiaroscuro  matching  the  label’s  ethos,  followed  by  other  mainstays  Il  Est  Vilaine’s  Farenheit  451,  which  evokes  Ray  Bradbury’s  retro-dystopic  angst  with  the  band’s  usual  electro-pop  elegance.  Sutja  Gutierrez,  who  released  in  debut  EP,  The  Legend  of  Time  on  Lumière  Noire  in  April,  pursues  his  electro-Shamanism  with  the  ceremonial  Allodoxaphobia,  while  Iñigo  Vontier  (whose  EP  Aluxes  came  out  on  the  label  in  late  2017)  brings  his  Contra  project  online  with  track  Taurus,  a  further  development  in  voodoo  house.  Elsewhere,  Suuns  lead  singer  Ben  Shemie,  who  lent  his  fascinating  art-rock  croon  to  Recall,  a  single  from  Chloé’s  Endless  Revisions  LP,  contributes  A  Million  Kinds,  a  synthy,  psych-pop  debut  that  is  as  brilliant  as  it  is  surprising.  On  to  the  freshman  class:  Dutch  producer  Drvg  Cvltvre  (who  gets  personal  kudos  from  Chloé  with  each  new  12”)  brings  the  uncompromising  dark  electro  of  his  hypnotic  and  claustrophobic  Last  Rites.  Jonathan  Fitoussi’s  airy,  minimalistic  Cercles  Polaires  brings  the  respite  of  his  recent  Versatile  Espaces  Timbrés  LP  (a  collaboration  with  Clemens  Hourrières):  “I  met  him  at  Xavier  Veilhan’s  Studio  Venezia  at  the  Venice  Biennale.  He’s  a  great  guy,  and  his  universe  is  unique,”  says  Chloé.  Benedikt  Frey’s  deep  techno  track  Iaon,  is  on  par  with  his  smash  2017  album,  Artificial,  out  on  ESP  Institute.    First-timers  are  also  part  of  the  recruits:  Bajram  Bili  with  the  ten  cerebral  minutes  of  Restart,  Théo  Muller  with  the  ultra-deep  Douce  Transe,  and  Lumi,  a  Basque  band  that  fuses  electronic  sounds  with  acoustic  instruments,  brings  the  compilation  to  a  close  with  a  track  commissioned  by  Chloé,  who  met  them  at  a  festival.  These  audacious  choices  are  anchored  down  with  the  likes  of  Permanent  Vacation  pioneer  Lauer’s  hooky,  80s-infused  Pythor  (“Just  like  him,  I  was  a  resident  of  the  Robert  Johnson,  and  he  was  a  guest  of  mine  at  one  of  my  Lumière  Noire  nights  at  the  Rex.  He  is  one  of  these  people  whose  music  I  highly  appreciate);  Aergeworc  &  Franck  Agrario,  half  of  English  duo  Swayzak  David  Brown’s  project,  weaves  an  ethno*  mood  into  Grace’s  techno.  Bringing  together  different  generations,  genres,  and  styles?  That  may  not  necessarily  be  Chloé’s  MO.  She  invokes  a  more  arbitrary,  personal  logic:  “I  like  to  mix  of-the-moment  tracks  and  more  timeless  one,  but  the  rule  is  above  all  ‘do  I  love  this  or  not?’.  That  was  my  ethos  when  I  started  Lumière  Noire.”  In  that  way,  the  label  is  definitely  in  keeping  with  its  time...

B1. Khidja - Haetrin (John Talabot’s Late Remix)

In this first days of 2019 we have the fantastic new track from Discos Capablanca's Golpe De Estado - 'Liquido'...
When we say 'new' this is a track which has existed in some shape or form for a decade, a production from Hugo Capablanca and Oklo Gabon was reportedly rejected from a label for being too weird.  A decade on Marc Piñol heard the track, was blown away by it and asked Hugo to remix it.
The result is a shonky New York influenced lo intensity houser chock full of live instrumentation.  Bongos, sax, flute and freejazz which would not sound out of place in a Kenny Dope or Louie Vega set, think Nu Yorcian Soul remade in the Catalan and you are somewhere near close, but not close enough. 
Do yourself a favour, hit play melt away.
