Still riding high on the success of their second artist album, Another, Crimea X offer up two more singles from it in the form of A Present and Haunted Love. Ensuring the package is even more essential are remixes from Lauer and non-stop Dutchman Legowelt, and of course it's worth mentioning again that the originals were both co-produced and mixed by Norwegian legend Bjorn Torske.

First remix comes from Running Back and Beats In Space associate Philip Lauer (who also works as Arto Mwambe with Christian Beisswenger and Tuff City Kids with Gerd Janson) and is a deeper, moodier affair. A mysterious kick drum lead groove sets the tone as the original's pianos get vamped up into a more 80s leaning motif. It's hugely engaging despite being relatively slo-mo and is the sort of end-of the night anthem that really sticks in you brain.

Third Attempt is back on Beatservice Records with his latest carefully crafted release, weaving dreamy sonic textures into the gorgeously feel-good 'Love Star'.

Having burst onto the scene with his Beatservice Records debut back in 2018, Torje Fagertun Spilde quickly proved himself to be one of the most intriguing young artists to have emerged from the Norwegian underground in recent Years. His work recorded under the now familiar Third Attempt moniker is routinely engaging, effortlessly skirting genres and always constructed with deft musicality and cultured compositional prowess. His age-defying sound evolves with every release, and his most recent album, 'The Novel Sound' vividly demonstrated his devastating musical range.

'Love Star' finds him in typically inspired form, once again imaginatively skirting stylistic boundaries with ease. Blending elements of trip-hop, funk, nu-disco and more, he expertly demonstrates his flair for sampling as he elegantly layers atmospheric vocal chops and dexterous musical refrains. Unfolding over a sprightly broken rhythm, summery chords are embellished by carefree horns and strings as hypnotic guitar and sparkling keys beautifully augment the groove.

Presented over a compelling arrangement, the irresistible sounds feel perfectly pitched for both radio and club play, with 'Love Star' further enhancing Third Attempt's already glowing reputation.

Norwegian artist Third Attempt continues on a roll with his stunning new EP entitled ‘Soul Lifting’. The effervescent show man again works his compositional magic across four compelling tracks. Steadily turning heads since they began appearing in 2018. Now a cherished member of the Beatservice Records family, the artist has proven himself one of the most inspired artists to have emerged from Norway's rich, meta-disco lineage in recent times. Effortlessly gliding through genres, his distinctive sound expertly blends nu-disco, funk, trip-hop, electronica, and house setting him apart from the rest of the field.
'Love Star' finds TA in typically inspired form. Imaginatively skirting stylistic boundaries, as he elegantly layers atmospheric vocal chops and dexterous musical refrains. Unfolding over a broken rhythm, summery chords are embellished by carefree horns and strings. 'Keep Your Head Up' demonstrates his flair for sampling, as hip-hop vocals and scratches dart over soothing keys, strings, and horns. Supported by thick bass and breaks, the arrangement elegantly unfolds as soulful vocals add mystique to the groove. Continuing the soul-heavy flex, the heartfelt refrains of 'This Love' see searing vocals and whispered words float across a life-affirming musical bed. Sparkling keys saunter over seductive chords as crisp, broken drums carry the groove. 'Believe' sees out the collection, the sumptuous track combines harmonic allure with a stirring tempo. Disco guitar licks saunter over strings and piano chords, the soul-rich vocal embellishes the melody as crisp house drums power the rhythm home.

A new figure sashays their way into Bordello. In one hand, a bouquet of carnations, in the other a 12” record. Lauer. Philipp Lauer. Known for his incredible productions on labels like Running Back and Permanent Vacation, not to mention his collaborations, the German all around good guy delivers four gems. The title piece radiates warmth, clean drum patterns giving way to beaming synth bars with vocoder lyrics bopping to the bass. Light hi-hats and a wet snare are the fertile ground from which choral key shifts break to squelching acid in this addictively diverse work. The energy levels spike, like a cork spearing its way from a champagne bottle, for the unbridled enthusiasm of “Frizzante”. Piano stabs, pulsating percussion and an infectious groove. The Summer sun may have set, but Lauer is still at the “Playa” with his playful finale. An off-kilter melody ebbs and flows on a string of rhythms, dreamy tongue-in cheek synth play sailing this 12” off to the horizon.
