Third Attempt

The Oslo based artist Third Attempt is building his fan base and his reputation for putting out high quality and extremely well produced beats. With two singles from this album already out of the gate the mothership has landed in shape of ‘Beats From The Quarantine’. This talented artist takes us on a trip-hop journey of eleven tracks of low slung beats and reframed disco blends. All designed with the forward thinking hip-hop head in mind.

Opener 'Addicted' gets the ball rolling in a soothing fashion with some slap-heavy bounce that'll get your hips swaying and feet shuffling. The sample-heavy 'Front To The Back' serves up a crisp mix of hip-hop drums, fluttering melodies and nu-age-friendly vibes. The heavily dubbed jazz affair 'Make It Double', is an intricate mixture of brass-laden jamming, wistful piano chords and smoky funk bass, all resounding across a dense haze of FX and subtle textural arrangements that grow deeper as bars pass by.

  Drifting towards more ethereal and soulful heights, 'Missing Feeling' teleports you to poetic jazz dreamlands, fusing solid bass with mischievous woodblocks and otherworldly chimes.  Laid back trip-hop and vibraphonic downtempo chugger 'Please Hold', quietly rides on to greener pastures, whilst 'Rain' musters up a breezy package of sonar bloops, disco shades and dusky atmospherics.

Upping the tempo 'Images' keeps the feels pouring but tweaks the whole into a hectic acid-drenched second half.  'Mirage' is a deep mystic trip of hypnotic webs and sitar-imbued harmonics. 'Air' eases us to moody Balearic jazz territory with languid trumpets and polychromatic pads, paying tribute to José Padilla’s touch. One to drift off to is closing cut 'Cocoon' which wraps you in warm layers of piano and synth, fitting somewhere between the Aphex Twin's Drukqs-ian excursions and more Ibizan sun kissed magic.

British producer Andy Ash is on a roll! His recent release for Quintessentials slaps hard and not to mention output on such respected labels as Sheffield’s Moment Cinetique, Chicago’s Still Love 4 Music, New York’s On The Prowl and Sydney’s People Must Jam. Andy Ash tracks always have this wonky edge to them which make his music stand out in the crowd and we’re pleased to welcome him back for his third release on Delusions entitled the Tiawo EP.

Kicking off this four track EP, the title track goes deep into early Chicago house territory calling to mind those incredible drum machine and synth workouts on Trax. Stripped back to just the driving 707 groove and chiming digital synths this punchy warehouse jam is just the track for those heady hours where the dance floor becomes suspended in time and the dancers are locked into the unfaltering groove.

Next up Strictly Pins goes for a minimal approach with shuffling drums, moody Detroit Rhodes chords, bass and..... that’s about it. But it grooves hard!

Burger treads a similar rhythmic and sonic path but with added trippy factor coming from a completely twisted vocal sample which is warped, cut up and processed for maximum freak-effect. Just a little insight into the mind of a madman which is both quite fun and disturbing in equal measures.

Closing out the EP we have Brother which goes for a slightly more conventional deep house sound with syncopated stabs, rolling bassline and swinging drums.

New York House and Disco legend Eli Escobar has been releasing music for over 20 years under various aliases as well as running incredible parties and his own label Night People. We’ve been huge fans of his productions over the years and when a chance to release some of his stellar music on our Phonica main label came about, we were over the moon.

The “Find A Way EP” kicks off with “FindAWay2Day”, combining heavy hitting 808 drum work with deeply satisfying vocal samples, a beyond groovy bassline and 80s Electro-Funk galore. “Something Inside Of Me” leans towards a classic US Deep Garage House blueprint, with sampled chord stabs, mesmerising vocal hooks and MPC style swung drum programming.

Over on the B-Side, jacking House meets Deep Detroit Techno on “Down All Day” with a frenzied, chopped and replayed vocal melody melding with lush and relaxing pads until the piano line enters and pushes the track into pure euphoria. Finally “Daywun” conjures memories of the best funk of the 1980s, propelled by a bass riff that weaves through the drum hits and smacks just right, layering it with chords that feel like driving through California’s highways at midnight and an Electro Hip hop B-Boy style rap sample. The EP is a perfect combination of production highlights from House music’s influences and a modern approach with the freedom of style and genre while never sacrificing quality.

Oslo's Torje Fagertun Spilde – better known as Third Attempt – is quickly making a name for himself as one of the most reliably exciting producers to emerge from Norway's rich meta-disco lineage. His last single, 'Age Of Steam', arrived bursting with bass-heavy funk flex, and we're thrilled to report that his newest effort is no less kinetically charged. As the name suggests, 'Nu Funk' is a contemporary exploration of deeply-rooted funk sensibilities. Combining warm bass with tightly constructed beats, Third Attempt dexterously merges far-reaching musical aesthetics that include trip hop, funk, soul and disco to deliver a sound that – although endowed with vintage sensibilities – feels proudly up to date.

The track begins with snappy hip hop vocal samples scratched over tight beats and a delectable bass guitar hook. The groove pauses for dubbed-out space delays to echo into the night before a singing lead guitar joins the rhythm elements to burst back into life. Forging a heads-down furrow from which there's no escape, the seductive beats maintain the course as vocal chops, flute motifs, elegant strings, and otherworldly sweeps elegantly meander across the panorama.

Just as we've come to expect from Third Attempt, this is warm, organic and utterly alluring work. Taken from a forthcoming album that's set to land in the coming months, we are beyond excited to hear what the young talent will come up with next.

Third Attempt is back on Beatservice Records with yet more delightful audio honey, this time arriving with the gloriously soothing groove of 'Sunbeam Symphony'.
23-year-old producer Third Attempt has been in sparkling form of late. With a pair of exquisite singles having recently arrived in quick succession, his latest creation is again plucked from his hotly anticipated long-player slated to arrive in the coming months. While his previous outings have been blessed with heavy doses of floor-focused funk, 'Sunbeam Symphony' finds him in a delightfully laid-back mood with a track destined to provide the soundtrack for blissed-out sun-downs, poolside abandon, and at-home meditations.
Set over a groove that arrives like a cool summer breeze, the track evolves over soul-soothing chords, weighted bass and slick, rolling beats. Hypnotic e-piano guides us into position as the drums build the energy, the bass notes power us forward as Third Attempt's dextrous keyboard solo dazzles momentarily before subsiding for a dub-infused break. Spaced-out vocal chops and rising sweeps build tension before the sprightly drum fill sparks a return to the groove. Maiden Voyage is the latest EP from rising London-based French producer, Run Bass. Coming to us by way of London-based label, Burnin Music, this EP displays Run Bass’ knack for summertime retro-fitted electronic. Utilizing entirely analog equipment and old-school drum machines, this EP is an assured, funky, yet laid-back collection of tracks.

“Across Borders” is a gorgeous opener that sets the tone for the rest of the EP. The track opens with a decisively laid-back drum pattern and wobbly synths, but quickly picks up in momentum as the modular synth-line and bass kick into gear. Some high-note keys and plucked-string-like synths pepper the main riff, lending the track some unexpected tension to its languorous tone. This all sets the stage for the track’s show-stopping late drop, where all the elements crescendo in a fuzzed-out, modular cornucopia. With “Across Borders”, Run Bass proves himself an expert at creating a retro summer vibe, but with a few tricks up his sleeve, too.

After his acclaimed album "Terre Promise", Blutch is back on the grill with this EP named "À l'ancienne" which brings him back to the more organic sounds in which he navigated before his first album. We find him with the track "Baby", the groove and the party which marked his productions on the label but also the abstract hip hop on the track "Roundun" in collaboration with his buddy Fabien Lahaye on the keyboard and finally the track "Yesterday", a kind of bridge between all his influences and layers which shape the universe of Blutch.

Includes various field recordings and samples from indian folk music. Also a snippet from a really old interview with Tiny Tim. My new Korg Volca Keys contributed a lot as well. Third Attempt is Torje Fagertun Spilde, a 22 years old artist and DJ originally from Asker, just outside of Oslo. Now established in Tromsø, Norway, he is one of the young forces in the rising new generation of electronic producers from the birthplace of the Northern Disco Groove.
Third Attempt has a distinct and uplifting flavour, firmly planted in the smoother areas of deep house. His influences range from jazz to ambient, trip hop to classic house. Third Attempt's first Beatservice single "Shoreline" accumulated numerous accolades and tens of thousands of plays on various streaming platforms. After three two-track EP's, and one four track EP, it is now time for a new album from Third Attempt! 
The album continues his mixture of funky, jazzy and deephouse grooves, but, while his EP's have been aimed mostly for the dancefloor, the album is on the smoother end of the scale.
