AEON label founder Alex Niggemann closes the year in style with the remarkable ​Electric Mariachi​. Unique remixes are delivered from cosmic disco inspired Rigopolar and Spanish talent Pional.
Electric Mariachi opens with vocoded robotic words, a heavy snare combines with electro zap before Alex introduces horn, adding a human element into an intergalactic journey bursting with energy and emotion. ​Pional is first up on remix duty with an acid interpretation, a loopy, hypnotic bassline wraps around the original melody and showcases his deeply compulsive electronics that can be found on the likes of Young Turks, Phonica Records and Permanent Vacation. Mexican-born, L.A. based, ​Rigopolar ​then turns his hand to two remixes. The stripped down remix is a colourful synth-wave piece where arpeggiating tones move like liquid over reverbed percussion. His second sees him up the ante, in a space influenced extended version that ebbs and flows throughout with his psychedelic glowing keys.
The word visionary is often overused in electronic music, but it’s the perfect description for Alex Niggemann. His ethos is to embrace the new and push the boundaries of the genre he loves so much. Since breaking through in 2006 with his remix of Booka Shade’s ​Darko,​ ​Alex Niggemann ​has continuously impressed with a slew of hits on seminal labels including Crosstown Rebels and Mule Musiq, as well as his own AEON imprint.

Modular Project strikes again after their last fantastic EP on Sisters & Brothers. ‘Bottom’ is a floating dreamy cosmic track that travels to the moon and back. It’s a funky techno track with a real bass line, emotional synths and a distorted vocoder that bring the listeners on a trippy 80’s journey. A true analog product from Italy.

‘Austrian Hairlines’ is by Sexy Lazer & Kaktus Einarsson. It comes with a thrilling intro that turns into broken beats, acid and quirky melodies. Born 33.000 feet up in the air and brought down to earth to be raised up. Grew and grew and became this sharp and tense but yet playful electric character. Robotic and sharp as the sharpest Austrian hairlines. 

Technobeton & Friedtower presents ‘Tal im Berg’. This greatly structured and disturbed track made in Stuttgart is in your face. ‘Tal im Berg’ is about not doing it right. “We had a lot of instruments, progressions and effects in the arrangement (which is the ‘Berg’ (mountain) - it sounded right. So then we killed two drum tracks, several melodies, we discovered the TAL bassline, and what then happened became Tal im Berg. When we play it loud, people maybe feel the presence of empty soundspaces and fill them automatically with ecstatic shouts and dance moves.”

Far up in the north the Icelandic techno duo Bypass wrote a composition named Blómavasi (flower vase) years back as teenagers. Not knowing what they had made the demo got lost. By request of a friend they revisited the demo and decided to bring it to life. Imagine what Bypass can do if this acid bomb is the demo that got lost... Sounding great like the cold north. 

‘I Belong’ by Andi is also coming from Iceland and closes the package with a very elegant and well made electronica track that leaves you longing for more. A true talent to watch out for! ”In the track the classic mantra “I belong to you” is repeated several times over throughout the song, treated as if it were a sample from another source than my own voice, although heavily processed. This is basically just me talking to myself, for the purpose of belonging more fully to others. The track sprang from a feeling of loneliness causing me to expand unnecessary boundaries of belonging.” This is Andi’s second appearing on S&B.

Creative endeavours are most often not a thing to be rushed. You let thoughts have their freedom and sometimes it comes naturally, sometimes it doesn’t. The conveyor belt approach applies to physical products, but not the processes of a creator. But what happens if you were to force a deadline to something you hadn’t even started ? Would you perform to the utmost of your ability ? Would the end product be greater or lesser than that given its own time frame ?
Joseph Thomas Price also known as Third Son has written, mixed, mastered and released his debut album in 20 Days, and there forming the title of the work. Based from his home studio, the first note was recorded on the 1st May and the creative process was documented throughout. From the first recorded beats to the live studio tutorial videos including a video call with Pioneer DJ's Rob Anderson in which he discussed how he used the Toriaz Squid as a central ideas machine within the writing process, the end product is a remarkable achievement and released on his Polymath concept label.
“I’m so pleased with how this turned out. It could have very easily gone the other way considering the time constraint, but I think that adds to the honesty of the record. This feels like the kind of music I’ve wanted to put out for years”. Third Son.

Creativity emanates from London based DJ and live artist Third Son. With releases on Matthew Herbert’s Accidental imprint and an EP on Dusky’s 17 Steps with Nathan Micay and TERR remixes, Third Son was also chosen to create the Mercedes GLE Advert Soundtrack having pitched alongside Jimmy Edgar and the Strangers Things team. At the start of the year Third Son also started a weekly club tool series through his Bandcamp page as a platform for his modular productions.
