There was a strange atmosphere in the amphitheatre, onlookers were perplexed by what they'd seen, fascinated and intrigued. A rumble reverberated from the tall speakers in each corner, blasting noise down upon the gathering with a ferocious force. Soon they would all be under the hypnosis of the spell, the performance had begun.

There had been concerns that this would be too big, too grand and too ambitious to pull off but as the lights became dimmer and dimmer it was clear that the plan had worked.

Soon they would all be long gone.

Wolf Music are celebrating the work of Soul Purpose with a new EP made up of music recorded in the late nineties. Still sounding just as fresh and relevant today, these tracks have been given a well deserved lease of life.

Ah, Byron, Byron, Byron—what can we say? We're absolutely enamoured with this guy's music. And, we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome him into our family on Low Recordings.

We are back with our second vinyl release, featuring Byron's "Love 4 Music." This 4-track EP is a celebration of love, with Side A and Side B showcasing two distinct styles where Byron truly shines. Side A delivers the club hits, while Side B envelops us in a soulful/R&B/deep house vibe.

Kicking off Side A is "Creepin' With U." The track begins with haunting chords that exude an eerie and raw vibe, swiftly leading into a thumping, club-certified kick drum. As the song progresses, a hint of nostalgia from the lo-fi days creeps in, complemented by vocal samples that add to the eerie atmosphere. Yes, it's eerie, but it's also robust and captivating—perfect for enticing bodies to move on a warehouse dance floor.

Next up is "Work That Girl (Tribal Mix)," the heavyweight of the four, tailor-made for the club/warehouse scene. The track starts with the clicking and clacking of hats and snares, Byron's vocals weaving in and out of the mix. The lyrics are crafted for a sweaty night of dancing, and as the kicks thump in, the energy rises. Byron's trademark chords seamlessly ooze into the mix, uniting our bodies with the song. Acid-sounding notes eventually lead us in and out of the groove—a solid club anthem.

Flipping over to Side B, we're greeted by "Inner Visions," where Byron slows things down and takes us in a different direction. A classic synth line initiates the track with a smooth kick, creating an airy vibe that melds perfectly with its melody. As the song grooves, Byron's soulful vocals pierce through, infusing warmth into his words. The warmth persists as the song progresses, with his voice echoing slightly more dissonance, leaving us with a proper vision for the closing track.

Closing out the EP, Byron guides us with a vision for a fun night in "Make Me Feel." Deep with a touch of R&B, the song exudes warmth and is all about feeling good with the person who got you through the night. Byron's sultry voice sits perfectly on the track as the basslines guide us through. His playful nature keeps things light and fun, rounding off the EP on a high note.

Zopelar returns to Tartelet with Ritmo Freak, an electric eight-track album from the beating heart of the Brazilian underground, out May 10.

In a flurry of madcap sampling pitched towards the heat of the night, Pedro Zopelar builds on the premise of his 2022 electro-funk love letter Charme, shifting his approach towards a particular 90s flair and a method with a specific end result.

Ritmo Freak took root in studio experiments for a momentous — and rare — live set at São Paulo festival Não Existe in 2023, where Zopelar was caught up in one of those right-place, right-time moments we carry with us through life. As he explains himself:

“This album is dedicated to freaky club culture. While I was playing at the festival there was a crazy tropical storm outside and the room was packed with the freakiest crowd. I've tried hard to immortalize that feeling on this record."
With the intended energy in mind, Zopelar focused on a particular mode of production centred around 12-bit sampling from his ample record collection.

Considering his background as a trained pianist, here his musical instincts are forced to work within the limitations of short, snappy cuts from dusty 12”s. The lo-fi sound sources and the resourceful ways Zopelar works them gives the record an unmistakable old-skool flavour which he applies to forthright house, techno and electro funk rhythms, always taking care to draw out the soul of the music.

The stylistic touchstones flow past thick and fast on Ritmo Freak. From the amped up fierceness of the title track with its gaudy, cut n’ paste, vintage techno flavour to the effervescent electro funk of ‘Gabriellinha’s Boogie’ on to the surreal Balearic inversion of ‘Distraction’, this is a high-velocity, endlessly charming record bursting with the musicality Zopelar has made his name on.

As the driving force behind many warehouse parties in São Paulo, Zopelar has been immersed in club culture for a long time, and his distinctive catalogue of jazz, funk, acid and techno has graced highly respected labels like Apron, Selva Discos and Mother Tongue. Throughout, he’s displayed an affinity for the tangled roots of the groove with an open-eared, big-hearted sound. That’s what comes through on Ritmo Freak — a record as infectious as it is well- informed.

Craft Music's Good For Dance series continues with its second instalment and this one has been curated by none other than DJ Craft himself. Joining him are talented pals Schmoltz, Bogdan Ra, Romain FX, and Outra, also known as Joutro Mundo. These deep diggers are celebrated for their prowess in unearthing hidden gems and transforming them into dancefloor anthems and that's what they do here as each artist brings a unique flavour to the mix. Schmoltz's 'Luv The States' is a peak-time percussive disco jam, Bogdan Ra brings some slap-funk drums and glossy Italo synths and 'Tell Me Why' has crunchy drums and jagged synth stabs before a camp closer in 'Colosso'.

Our label offshoot Human Endeavour ready their next release: a heady, potent brew of club sounds from Middlesbrough DJ, producer and label head REES. 

Marking the label’s most club-ready outing to date, and signalling a venture into darker musical realms for the Magic Ritmo co-boss, the three tracks on 'Echo Ritual' connect the dots between electro, EBM and wave.

A departure from the Italo, leftfield house and trance-soaked sounds heard on his previous releases for the likes of Permanent Vacation, Bordello A Parigi and Palms Trax's CWPT, ‘Echo Ritual’ charges straight out the gates with its euphoric, whirring synths that ring out over an infectious chugging bass line. 

‘Northern Chug’ follows suit, taking cues from visceral body music and heavy, stomping electro, before REES ups the tempo for closing track ‘Venom’; another deadly dose of slithering electro fuelled by biting, metallic synths and razor sharp percussion.

Once again Sonar Kollektiv hits the big time: The Berlin based label releases the first recordings by TTeo – Matteo Capreoli’s electronic side project. Over the last ten years the Italian producer has become somehow the pictureperfect German-speaking singer songwriter with three highly acclaimed studio albums under his belt and a production portfolio encompassing artists like Samy Deluxe, Yvonne Catterfield, Y’Akoto and Bengio.
Only his move to Berlin and his commissioned work for a short documentary shook the foundations of the thoroughbred musician and let him reinvent himself completely. Suddenly everything was reduced and boiled down to its core: his life, his surroundings, his music.
Sonar Kollektiv –  probably Berlin’s top place to go when it comes to blend pop music with the club experience – is utterly proud to present you now what Matteo Capreoli aka TTeo has been working on for months locked down in his studio. The outcome is the terrific EP «Salento» (named after the region where Capreoli’s family is from), a release musically so ingenious as pure and simple you can’t really put a finger on it. Of course it’s all about the vibe and the aesthetic of the sound but also about the personal reflections of a musician’s life with lots of ups and downs. «Violett» for instance emphasizes Capreoli’s passion for cinematographic music, where even his own voice becomes an instrument amongst others and the dramatic composition of the arrangement brings the best film score to mind.
