Alexis Le-Tan and Tom Colebrook quite fluidly morph into our lazy initials: ALTC. Our current appreciation for an older psychedelic sound can be traced back to a dirty, careless and omnipotent period in the early 90’s when the sun, the Fridge Club or Space Tribe leggings brought our bodies together in time to these heroic sounds. Then it all sort of just wound down, more abruptly for some, and for a long time. But like old Smaug under the Lonely Mountain, we understood the longevity of gold. A few years just gone we embarked on a restlessly chaotic and passionate re-appraisal of our sonic past - just at a different speed. An ever growing archive and many edits later, we find ourselves still going; we are a happy and volatile little team, Mr. Le-Tan, who needs no introduction here, a Titan of this slow sound - arguably the original, whose honed booth selections are regularly adorned by loyal crowds all over Europe. Mr. Colebrook, a flash in the pan veteran of the Goa scene, now mainly chief archivist and an Internal wordsmith of ill repute.
There was a folder that existed in the archive called ‘The Socialists’ and over time as we pondered it, we began to understand the contents as taking on some sort of metaphor for a socialist arc of success and defeat, of growth and change, of hope and loss, of commitment and desertion, of lies and the truth, of battles and peace, emptiness and loss. Heroic themes indeed Comrades. As a musical selection, we wanted to imbue these metaphors with corresponding sonic inflections, sometimes we thought of sounds coming up through the ground to fight and be victorious or perhaps to lose, only to retreat and live another solitary day. Some were sounds for a moment of blissful morning sun soaked success, or the grey pulse of an imagined industrial trench. But above all - this selection of songs shows a commitment to each other and to the time and place they were made, and how they exist here - Now. We hope you enjoy the show!

PREMIERE | ALTC (Alexis Le-Tan & Tom Colebrook)- Our Commitment Flag [44,100Hz Social Club] 2021

Vilnius-based record label Good Skills presents a five-a-side of solid grooves with a trademark Made in Lithuania. From slow and low to high and tight, 'Sekta' is a compilation of organic textures and inviting rhythms, created by the up-and-coming local talents.

The opening track delves into the 'Emotions' of Shurmin Nikita. A proper intro builds on catchy breaks with distant vocals and a slo-mo that lends a funky vibe.

Up next is Zakmina, one of the most-talked-about producers from Lithuania.'Dykuma' (Desert) is a promising collab with egoistic punk band EGOMAŠINA. Every chord in this tune is a reminder of what a remarkable friendship between electronic music and garage rock can be.

'Georgian Dumplings' have been cooked somewhere in Copenhagen and smuggled straight into the Good Skills office by two re-emigrants, who call themselves Deserted Island. Mellow and acoustic, it simply sounds tasty. 'Vaikų Ligoninė' (Children's hospital) is Shkema at his best: ghostly vocals, pitched drums, and unpredictable flow tells another weird story from parallel universe.

Last but not least are Bojarchük and his 'Force'. A full-time medical specialist delivers a surgically accurate yet fast-and-furious heavyweight, which has the potential to become ultimate dancefloor filler.

Erotika` initially formed its shape in the deep layers and cells of analog and digital music hardware. With some tribal drums on top of a straight four-on-four beat, crystal acid drops, and smooth waves of FM synthesized lines it becomes a black body of pleasure. Burning in cold flame, mystical voice of Vaide adds erotic soul and completes this track as a perfect dark disco room experience.

“When the first time I heard a track it brought me to a wild forest and tribe vibrations, where I just wanted to express myself and let the past go. This is how `Erotika` was born. There’s a great sense for taming nostalgia in Lithuanian-born Klimas’ work. Based in Kaunas, real name Rokas Klimas works on setting his signature sound with a great passion for the genres of the past that flourished at the end of the previous century. The production is obviously dipped in Italo,  New Wave, and New Beat more than anything else but also showcases a huge amount of interest for the dancer of modern times through investigations of minimal techno, electro, d’n’b, and dubstep. His allies for getting the more convincing sounds are machines from the USSR era, vintage synthesizers, and other gadgets in the studio. Klimas’ background also includes some action with the Rebel Army group that got its big sound system-ready EP released on Mixmag and VNTGRD labels. 

With his long-term collaborator Tautvydas, Klimas started a label-slash-music-sharing-space in Kaunas called Lempa. As a producer, he promises a lot of stories from the past in the future.

The first release on Awesome Orientalists From Europa, an edits project dedicated to awesome music and new politics. Inspired by record labels and DJs that specialise in reissuing ‘world’ music, A.O.F.E. turns the tables on the perception of who is exotic by rediscovering obscure and forgotten western dance floor tracks. The music published in the project fantasises about the foreign, tribal and oriental, but was in its whole created in the west, for the west. All profits from the project are donated to NGOs that fight Islamophobia, antisemitism and racism in Europe.
